Walnut Hills (OH) 1 Covington Catholic 0
How did Ibrahaim Goumballe (Walnut Hills) look? He should be no stranger to CovCath/NoKy fans, as he's played on the top Kings/Hammers team for several years. 32 points (12 goals, 8 assists) in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference last year in only 13 games. Fantastic player.

Ray Kues hired at Boone Co
Ray Kues is returning to coaching after a seven-year layoff to take charge of the Boone County girls’ basketball program. Kues, 58, left coaching after the 2008-09 season, but he still ranks among the top 20 in career wins in Kentucky girls’ high school basketball with a 450-231 record in 25 years at three schools. Ray Kues He’ll be resuming his career with a Boone County program that has a long history of success. The Rebels have been a perennial contender in the 9th Region playoffs, claiming 12 championship and seven runner-up trophies over the last 34 years. “People have been asking me ever since I stopped coaching, ‘Would you go back to it,’ and I said it would have to be the perfect fit for me, beginning with support of the (school) administration,” Kues said. Boone County school officials chose a seasoned veteran for the head coaching job this time after hiring a first-year head coach last year. Jessica Wendeln resigned after just one season with the Rebels, who posted an 11-16 record and lost in the first round of the 33rd District playoffs last February. Kues scheduled a meeting with the returning Boone County basketball players on Friday to give them in idea of what lies ahead. “I’ll tell them I’m still passionate about the sport and excited to be coaching again and that I’ll give it 100 percent,” he said. “I’m not going to be talking about wins or losses or anything about the season. We’re just going to love to play basketball.” Kues started his head coaching career at St. Henry in 1984. He went to Bishop Brossart in 1991 and coached teams that won the Kentucky All “A” Classic small-school championship in 1991 and the 10th Region post-season tournament in 2001. After stepping down as Brossart’s head coach, Kues took charge of the Silver Grove girls’ basketball program and got it back to competing on the varsity level. Kues, who now works for a company that makes brackets for jet engines, has been inducted into the Greater Cincinnati Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame and he’s a member of the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches Court of Honor. The only Northern Kentucky girls’ basketball coaches who have more career wins than him are Bill Goller of Holy Cross and Nell Fookes of Boone County. The gym floor at Boone County High School was named in honor of Fookes, who retired after the 2014-15 season with a 686-255 record in 30 years with the Rebels. She ranks third in career wins in Kentucky girls’ high school basketball. “I’m not looking to fill Nell Fookes shoes because I can’t do that, but I think my own coaching style will speak for itself,” Kues said. “I have no question about my ability to coach.” Kues said two former Boone County players will be on his coaching staff. Molly Hug will be the varsity assistant and Angel Miller will coach the junior varsity team next season.

Your school's Mount Rushmore
I thought there was a Terry Sandfoss from Silver Grove at NC in the late 70s/early 80s, but I didn't think he played college ball. Perhaps you are referencing his father/uncle. Either way, a solid hoops family.

Your school's Mount Rushmore
Where did Terry Sandfoss play D1??

Your school's Mount Rushmore
Anyone from Shelby County? Scott County? Louisville Senaca? Paintsville? Was Owensboro Apollo originally Owensboro HS? All have rich traditions. Would love to hear some lists from those schools.

Caleb Jefferson
Kid may turn out to be the next MJ .. who knows. I've never seen him .. couldn't pick him out of a lineup of one. But I remember so many middle-school athletes who were supposed to be all-world, and never played past their sophomore year, for various reasons. Much ado about nothing. Best of luck to the young man. Wherever he goes, I hope he's allowed to be 14.

Jenna Martin Transferring To Highlands
Cmon people. Give it a rest. RCC has been privy to EVERY conversation ever made, is in the know with everyone, is an expert on everything (just ask him!), knows what every kid and every parent is up to (except, of course, why Ms Martin chose HHS), has never been wrong (again, just ask him), and if he told us so, we should believe it!!! When are you going to learn?!! Got it?! And the Emporer isn't wearing any clothes. Okay? justsayin

Scott 6 Bishop Brossart 5 (8 Innings - 37th District Semis)
CF for Scott made two outstanding catches deep in the right field gap to save at least two runs. Both were made when the score was 4-1, keeping the Eagles in the game. Impressive speed and glove.

Scott 6 Bishop Brossart 5 (8 Innings - 37th District Semis)
I could be wrong, but I believe 2-3 of the eleven runs were earned. Both teams kicked it around a few times.

Scott 6 Bishop Brossart 5 (8 Innings - 37th District Semis)
Embs was not the losing pitcher. He entered with two on and no out, issued an international BB, and induced a bases-loaded grounder to third. The winning run beat the throw to the plate. Gebauer was the pitcher of record, tho victimized by a bad hop and an untimely error.

Region 5 AAA Track & Field Regional Championship
Can anyone share details about the Ryle runner who went down? I'm getting conflicting stories, but it sounds like the male athlete collapsed during the 4x800, but later returned to win the 1600. If so, nothing short of miraculous. I understand if there are privacy issues. But if there is public information about what really happened, I would love to hear. Thanks.

Open Job: Scott
I heard there is a "presser" this afternoon to announce Mick Cronin has been hired. Most everyone from Holy Cross will be there, since they've received the death penalty and have nothing else to do. Printed programs will be available. Oh, and the event will be recorded, in case you miss it.

Sweet 16 at NKU
To your bolded ... I believe what the dissenting majority in this thread are saying is that the event was not promoted, therefore many "casual" fans didn't even know it was occurring. There was NOTHING .. no media, no signs, no ancillary events, the "sponsoring" entity didn't push the event ... NOTHING. IF the event had been promoted, more would have attended and seen what a great event it is (as you know). Momentum would build over the years (as I'm sure occurred at WKU), and it would get legs. Now, it will probably be a limited two-year run, and people will say N Ky can't support an event like this. I don't know who is to blame (it probably can be shared by many), but ZERO promotion was a major contributing factor. justsayin

Harrison County with 3 varsity wins in 1 night
I recall playing a TH many moons ago during spring break...no split squad. It was an 11am/2pm DH at home, then on the road for a 7pm tilt under the lights. We did have some minor issues with having enough pitchers; we had to use some position players when the second game ended up 15-14 (a win...lol), but we got thru it. I found it a pretty novel idea.

Brad Carr out at Scott?
