Bracken County 2014/15

Recommended Posts

The lady bears lost a lot to graduation. Their main scorer Bailey Cummins returns for her junior campaign. Not sure who Coach Kelsch will use to replace the senior laden team from a year ago. In addition to Cummins he will have 4-5 returning seniors but none that I can recall played a lot of minutes last season. Early on in the season might be some struggles untill everyone gets settled into their roles. Might see some underclassmen get quality minutes through out the season. I am looking foward to taking in several lady bear games this season. :thumb:

As of today I put Bracken behind Mason Co in the 39th district. I know coach will have them girls ready to play. They have some tough games on the schedule this season travel to Mason, Campbell, and MoCo. With 10th region favorite GRC, Harrison, and Bishop Brossart all visiting the Igloo. So by tournament time these girls will be battle tested and should compete for the 39th. Could potentially make a run in the All A.

In my opinion, I think that the Lady Bears will be more successful than most people think this season. Coach Kelsch has them in the gym working the dedicated ball club hard everyday. They have a deep talented roster of non-starters. Although most of the starters this year have little varsity experience, I feel they learned a lot during their entire high school career witnessing three district tournament wins. The senior group has 6'0 post player Kara Jones, who has a seen a lot of improvement in the past year. They also have shooter MaKenzie Jefferson, and hard-nosed Jaylyn Miller and Cassidy Collins. The juniors will feature the Lady Bear's leading scorer returning in Bailey Cummins. They also have guard Hannah Deaton, who can get to the basket when needed. They also have post/guards in Cheyenne Taylor and Kyra Berry. The group of talented underclassmen features sophomores who can bring a lot to the table for the Lady Bears this year. They've got a young, talented post player in 6'0 Madison Kalb, who played AAU for Shining Stars this summer. They also have 6'2 Korbin Florer, who you might know from her success in volleyball. Also from volleyball comes a talented shooter in Macy Jefferson, who will be featured in the backcourt along with a quick Catie Rose and freshman Kinley Ruf. I also hear the pep club has vastly improved to give them an extra confidence boost. Can't wait to see the 2014-2015 Lady Bears!

Thanks for the more In depth preview. While I knew a few names I want sure on who was on JV last season. As well as I didn't know Korbin played basketball. She will be a force in the paint. I watched her and Macey this year in volleyball and they are both fierce competitors. I'm with you that they may be overlooked by some but I think that will only play into their favor. Patrick is a great coach and one thing for sure he will get the best out of his girls and they will be in the hunt come March.

Don't forget Bailey Cummins is a Shining Star also. She is such a good kid on and off the court.

I think we all know that Bailey will be a strong leader this year. She is undoubtedly their most talented player, however she cannot do it without help from her teammates.

Look for a couple underclassmen to step up this season. We may be able to go 7-9 deep so our depth may be a vital asset to the lady bears.
