Bracken County 2014/15

Per Dozier idea. Looks like I was pretty accurate with my preseason thoughts. :thumb:

The lady bears lost a lot to graduation. Their main scorer Bailey Cummins returns for her junior campaign. Not sure who Coach Kelsch will use to replace the senior laden team from a year ago. In addition to Cummins he will have 4-5 returning seniors but none that I can recall played a lot of minutes last season. Early on in the season might be some struggles untill everyone gets settled into their roles. Might see some underclassmen get quality minutes through out the season. I am looking foward to taking in several lady bear games this season. :thumb:

As of today I put Bracken behind Mason Co in the 39th district. I know coach will have them girls ready to play. They have some tough games on the schedule this season travel to Mason, Campbell, and MoCo. With 10th region favorite GRC, Harrison, and Bishop Brossart all visiting the Igloo. So by tournament time these girls will be battle tested and should compete for the 39th. Could potentially make a run in the All A.

I can honestly say 10th region All A Champs and State Quarterfinalist at the time of this post may have been a strech, but we had a good run that ended just a little sooner than we all anticapated.

PB, the beet part about preseason predictions is there is no accountability for them. BC had a great a season that I believe will only fuel their push to unseat Mason Co. For the 39th next year. Good Luck to you guys.

Any standout memories or performances from the past season?

Cummins 48 pt. performance @ Pendleton County, also when she broke the all time scoreing record.

Cassidy Collins Double Double vs. GRC 16 and 11 rebounds (5 or 6 were offensive)

Kinley Ruf 17 pts vs Brossart in the All A region finals. She had 2 huge clutch 3's in the fourth quarter of that one to keep the Lady Bears in it.

Thats just off the top of my head. Im sure I can come up with more the longer i reminess about the season. :thumb:

These seniors i will always remember. Their determination all season long is another thing that sticks out in my mind.

Excellent post PB. Keep them coming as you think of them. I added in Scott's post a comment about ESPN doing a top 10 highlight reel about your schools season what would be on it?

News coverage of girls sports is jokingly small and even smaller of NKY sports. So this is our chance to celebrate their accomplishments. I look forward to reading more.

missed 2 FTs... should've had 50. :lol2:

:ohbrother: How could I forget the All A State tournament as a whole, but the win over East Ridge was nothing but pure excitement. We did just enough for 3 quarters to stay in the game, then came alive in the 4th and OT and got the schools first win at All A state. Cummins with 30 pts in that one. Then played with a good Gallatin Co. team, but their defense was just too much in the end.

My ESPN moment of the east ridge game would be The late three by Cummins to tie it at the end of regulation and the big block by Korbin Florer on a 3 pt attempt at the buzzer in the OT. That block was huge because if that shot was to go in then East Ridge advances.

In my opinion, I think that the Lady Bears will be more successful than most people think this season. Coach Kelsch has them in the gym working the dedicated ball club hard everyday. They have a deep talented roster of non-starters. Although most of the starters this year have little varsity experience, I feel they learned a lot during their entire high school career witnessing three district tournament wins. The senior group has 6'0 post player Kara Jones, who has a seen a lot of improvement in the past year. They also have shooter MaKenzie Jefferson, and hard-nosed Jaylyn Miller and Cassidy Collins. The juniors will feature the Lady Bear's leading scorer returning in Bailey Cummins. They also have guard Hannah Deaton, who can get to the basket when needed. They also have post/guards in Cheyenne Taylor and Kyra Berry. The group of talented underclassmen features sophomores who can bring a lot to the table for the Lady Bears this year. They've got a young, talented post player in 6'0 Madison Kalb, who played AAU for Shining Stars this summer. They also have 6'2 Korbin Florer, who you might know from her success in volleyball. Also from volleyball comes a talented shooter in Macy Jefferson, who will be featured in the backcourt along with a quick Catie Rose and freshman Kinley Ruf. I also hear the pep club has vastly improved to give them an extra confidence boost. Can't wait to see the 2014-2015 Lady Bears!

I only saw the Lady Bears play one game this season, and that was the All A Regional Final. It was a team effort, and Cummins is the real deal, but Kinley Ruf won that game for the Bears.

Excellent, spill some details. Tell us more about what you remember of the game. Always like to here more about the "unsung heroes"!!!

As pb98 previously mentioned, she had 17 points, and two HUGE 4th quarter 3-point baskets. If my memory serves me correctly, she made several clutch 4th quarter FTs as well, and had the ball in her hands a lion's share of the time. She showed tremendous poise for a player her age. I was impressed.

As stated, Cummins gets the publicity (and all of it well deserved), but the Lady Bears don't win that game without Ruf's contributions. A solid effort, considering the stage.

Should be a nice tandem next season. Add Kennedy Carl. And to mention Carl with all she went through this season (father passing, broken leg) she was always with her head up and upbeat and positive. After she went down she was a driving factor in Brackens success very inspired play from her teammates
