I'll give you my short rundown of the tournament:
1. Mason County- They are the favorite to win with probably the most athletic team
2. Augusta- They have the most leadership because they have been to the big final games 3 times and won
3. Bracken County- Polar Bear fans are excited because for the first time in 17 years they have a chance to win a district and beat THE county
4. Saint Pat- This program is on the right path and have surprised a lot this year.
IMHO, Mason County got the worst draw because Bracken County has played them closer than anyone. And Bracken County got the worst draw because this is their biggest loss to a district opponent (5).
I'm thoroughly enjoying this small, I wouldn't call it a rivalry, but it's something. It makes the game worth more to the students because they DO NOT want to lose to Mason County. If Augusta plays Mason in the finals I will quietly be sitting on the Augusta side with a black Bracken County shirt for a one night only special. Because I don't want to see Mason win their, what is it now, 37, 38 districts since 1960? Bracken has 24 titles since 1925. And Augusta's I can count on one hand I think. Let small schools have the glory for once and get excited about something that rarely happens. History and tradition doesn't mean winning.
