Elder is very good offensively with a 3rd year starter in QB Peyton Ramsey (son of head coach Doug Ramsey). Their starting RB is out for a while and will not play in the game. Elder typically runs a very balanced offense (Ramsey is a very good runner and good thrower). I would think they score a lot of points. Their defense in recent years has been shaky. I would think it will be a fairly high scoring game. I will go with 38-24 Elder...

I was not at the game and have not seen Sycamore play this year but is Sycamore really that good? They are typically a decent D1 school in Cincy but usually do NOT qualify for the playoffs (normally barely one of the top ten teams in Cincy or not in the top ten). The last two years they finished 6-4 and 4th or 5th in their conference. They lost their only other game they played this year to a DII school (a very good one though in Mt. Healthy). Unless this is an unusually good Sycamore team, I think some people on here are overestimating them and the way CCH lost to them should be more alarming to CCH fans than the X game. Just my opinion.

So your quote about "typical HHS fans always talking about what they DID and not what they are doing" is not about season's past but only the last three weeks?? Yeah, that makes sense... Look I am a big HHS fan and will agree with you and others on here that a few HHS fans (like some fans at all schools) can be hard to stomach at times. However, very few harp on the past. In fact, HHS fans almost to a man (and LA CAT) are typically talking about what the current team has to do to get better...

I'm not debating that this year's team is struggling and may very well finish at .500 or possibly below. I would ask what has CCH done so far that makes you think they "should" beat HHS? I am not saying that they won't but am surprised based on the way they have played so far you would think they should win that game.

He said it's not a coincidence that HHS is not playing a big Cincy school this year and it is not a coincidence that some NKY teams that historically don't play HHS are playing them this year. HHS knew it was not going to have a really good team this year (not playing Elder or X) and the other NKY teams thought it too... How is he being full of himself by stating that? I agree with him BTW on both points.

I think Colerain is as much a football factory as X. I was surprised that X lost this game though. Tough to win at Colerain...

I looked it up. The last time HHS had a losing season in football was 1955...1955!!!!! That has to be one of the longest "winning season" streaks in the country (60 years). There is a very real chance that streak ends this season. Let's face it guys (and Cat)...Hoge's play masked a lot of issues last year with HHS. The defense struggled in most games against solid competition. It is again and there is nobody on offense like Hoge to overcome it.

So what is the word on Daugherty? He is a weapon that would be hard to replace. Also, what is wrong with Hergott???

That game should be interesting. Elder is very good this year but lost their starting tailback last week - out for 6-8 weeks. Hard to pick against Elder at Elder...

So I get home from work and the gym and an intrigued by the title of this thread...not what I was expecting:)

My heart say HHS. My head says SC. I just hope my heart is right...

GCL teams are just happy they can fill out a 10 game schedule...especially with a local team. Mo, Elder and X have to play Ky, Northern OH and Indy teams to fill out their schedules as Cincy schools avoid them like Ky schools avoid Trinity. The question isn't why X would play CCH, it is why CCH would play X. This does look like a special X team as well...actually all the GCL schools are going to be very good this year it appears.

That is a lot of "if's" considering both teams have played one game...

I know about the bar but I hope a game against a bunch a guys from a local bar in town does not count:ohbrother:

If you would have told me that Holmes has beaten HHS more times than CCH, I would not have believed you. I would have also NEVER guessed that the team with the fourth most wins ever against HHS is BELLEVUE?!?!? Five more wins against the Birds than Newport Catholic?? That is shocking IMO.

Thanks for posting these Cat. My favorite all time HHS opponents: Ohio Mechanics Institute, Ft. Thomas Midway?, and Highlands Alumni? What the heck is Ft. Thomas Midway? And a game against the Highlands Alumni counts? Whenever you look at all time records of HS or college teams, you see some weird opponents back in the day...

Wow. I go to St. Louis for a wedding this weekend and miss my Birds getting whipped by Cooper and come back to a 16 page thread! Haven't read all of it but it looks like some of our fears at QB may be justified and that the D is similar to last year. I was afraid that Hoge masked a lot of problems for HHS last year and now that he is gone, it will be hard to overcome them. Long season though. Gotta keep working. I remember a 4 loss HHS team winning a state title I believe in the 70's or 80's.

As a HHS fan, I have to admit this guy scares me a little bit. He seems like the real deal.

I was not there and did talk to someone who was there who does the stats for HHS and he did not mention one glaring thing...hate the riddles...

HB, I think almost all HHS fans think the score will be much closer than UK#1 says. My guess is that UK#1 actually thinks it will be closer too. My guess is that HHS will win but nothing would surprise me. Everyone starts over each year. You get no points for anything done last year.

I do agree that the Cooper game will tell us a lot more about HHS than the scrimmage. The GCL is really loaded this year...even more so than normal. Lasalle is the class of DII and may be as good as anyone in DI. Elder has A LOT back from a very good team last year and Moeller is very good as well. A buddy of mine who went to the scrimmage was told by a HHS coach that St X. issued over 360 uniforms this year to football players (freshmen, JV and Varsity). That is crazy!!!

And that issue would be???
