Just saw it...pretty cool. Obviously being Merril's son has a lot to do with it being on TV but that throw was very impressive. He rolled out left. Turned and threw a bullet about 40-50 yards in the air to the other side of the field for the TD and hit the receiver right on the numbers...it was 4th down too if I am not mistaken.

Too bad...was hoping CC could pull it out.

RCC, you know we agree with each other almost all the time. I don't disagree with anything you are saying regarding the fact that running the score up is not right. Dale used to do it (sorry fellow HHS fans but you know he did - then he stopped later on and Coach Weinrich definitely did not this year when he could have). Looks like the Holmes coach may have in this game - was not there but the score looks bad. All I am saying is that the adults care way more about this kind of stuff than the kids do. In the game I referenced, I think they did keep fast breaking but don't remember the details - it was a LONG time ago:)...

I bet the kids on both teams care WAY LESS about the score of that game than the adults seem to. I'm not for running the score up but I always get a kick at how worked up adults get when there is a lopsided score. When I was 12 or so, I played on a BB team that got beat 80 something to 20 something. The next day we are all fine.

That is a TOUGH schedule. I only see one sure win (Grant County). They may be hard pressed to be better than .500 next season. I am going by the "names" of the teams as I don't know what these teams have coming back...

Apopka is 10-4, not 7-4. Also, since CC beat HHS 38-34, it has played 8 games. It is 8-0 in those games and has outscored its opponents 253-28. That's right. It has given up ONLY 28 points in its last 8 games and has pitched 4 shutouts. That defense has really put it together since giving up 34 at HHS...

Kenney Shields used to call this "taking the chin straps off"...

No, but if you are going to call it, at least administer the call right. We can argue whether it should have been called or not. I watched it and thought the call was weak. However, by the letter of the law, go ahead and call it. But administer it by the letter of the law too then. It did cost a team a chance to play for a state championship - just a shame the bonehead officials messed that up.

Not to change the subject (although I think A LOT of people would welcome this thread taking a different turn), someone answer this for me. Are HHS and CCH moving up to 5A next year because they want to (playing up a class) or is that where they now both fall due to enrollment? I know HHS used to "play up" but then the KHSAA did not let them any longer. Did the rules change?

What!?!?!?! This guy's first game as the head referee was a state championship game!?!? Who in the world thinks it makes sense to have a guy cut his teeth on being the referee (not in his normal position) in the state championship game??? How can this possibly happen? There are not six qualified, experienced referees in the state of Ky to do the game??? The guy did look very unsure of himself on calling penalties and putting the ball in play...now I know why...

Who is saying the coach did not make a mistake? I am not. I have no dog in the fight and don't know the Murray coaches at all. They could be great or horrible. Regarding the officials owning their mistake, what choice to they have? It is a black and white area when it comes to administering the rules. They got it wrong. Admitting it is like saying 2+2=4. Everyone already knows it. The refs screwed up plain and simple. Making occasional mistakes on judgment calls is acceptable - not knowing the rules and how to apply them is not. It is the coach's fault for being called for the penalty. It is NOT his fault the ref screwed up the application of the rule. Firing a coach for getting a sideline penalty seems CRAZY to me.

Could be - I don't follow the program that close to opine one way or another. Lots of luck involved in advancing far in the state tournament. Overall though, a very solid program. When I looked up the stats, something jumped out at me. This is Scott Martin's 20th year at X. Schoenfeld, Kremer and Fleming have been at Elder, Mo and Lasalle LONGER than Martin has been at X. Talk about some veteran coaches at ALL FOUR GCL schools. On a side note, it also makes me feel old!!!!

Some quick Moeller facts Clyde: Last 5 years regular season records (could not find their tournament records) 16-4, 18-2, 17-3, 20-2, 19-1. 16-0 in GCL the last two years I believe. Kremer I believe has a career record of 403-135 (may not include last year) and has been a GCL champ or co-champ 16 of last 22 years. Kremer has led Mo to 3 state championships and one runner-up (none in the last 5 years though). If that is underachieving, I will take it.

They would have guarded him differently LA but he would pull up from anywhere and let it fly. I believe he had 25 in the 4th quarter that game and Kenney Shields took him out with just over a minute left because he did not know he was that close to 70...

Moeller just has it rolling in all sports right now. Their football team won 2 state champions before being knocked out in the semis. Their BB program has been top notch for a LONG time now - Kremer can flat out coach and they normally are just stifling on D (as the 28 points by RYLE would show) and their baseball program is as good as any in Ohio...threat to win it all most years

Scott Draud attempted more than 20 EVERY game...they just did not have the 3 point line in yet when he played. I think they put it in HS the year he left for college.
