As a HHS fan, I will admit that last year's team was not as dominant as some other HHS teams in the past 10 years. IMO, it makes last year's state title a little more special as the team could not just show up and beat you. It had to earn everything it got...and it did. I am sure this year will be no different with HHS certainly not a lock but most likely at or near the top in the end. I would not count CovCath out this year either... Somebody tell me about Pulaski. What is their style? Run, pass, both?? Are they built more on power or speed? More of a defensive force or offensive?? I don't know much about them..

Never say Shaun Alexander so I have to go with Michael Bush. Watching Jared Lorenzen and Derek Smith together in HS was special too...

So sad to hear...cancer sucks. Way to young for Bill to go. I never knew him but have met Mark and he is a class act and from what everyone is saying, so was Bill. Prayers to the family.

No; one arm was just longer than the other... Seriously, as a guy who has pitched a fair amount in the past, I will say that is quite an impressive feat! Like frank said, that is a record that will never be tied, let alone broken.

Just read them all. Very impressive list. Also, that 1957 football team...outscored its opponents 411-44! Yikes!!

I am putting this in the football forum because more people look at that one than the other HS sports sections. Mods can feel free to move it somewhere else if deemed necessary. HHS just named its inaugural Athletic HOF. To be eligible as an athlete you had to have graduated 20 years or more ago. As a coach you had to have retired 5 years or more ago. Some obvious selections who are not eligible yet based on the criteria are Jaime Walz, Derek Smith, Jared Lorenzen and Dale Mueller. The selections are: John Burt, Gary Herfel, Chuck Kyle, Dennis McAfee, Loyce Meadows, Tim Racke, Homer Rice, Panny Sarakatsannis, Duke Schneider and Ken Shields. HHS fans, what do you think? IMO, some were blatantly obvious (Chuck Kyle, Ken Shields, Homer Rice, John Burt). Others may be just as obvious but I am too young to know them. I don't know who was on the selection committee but it sure seems like they went "old" for the inaugural class. I doubt anyone on the list is under 65 and most are well over 70. The committee IMO completely swung and missed by not having Scott Draud on the inaugural list. I am shocked he is not on it. Frankly, the committee should be embarrassed for that omission - I am sure he will be in next year with Jaime Walz (she is eligible next year I believe).

I LOVED reading that article as a HHS fan. He admitted he was not ready when he went into games last year. I thought the same thing. It looks like he has totally committed himself to football this summer. I remember Coach Shields (even though he was talking basketball, it applies here I think) saying "great TEAMS are made during the season; great PLAYERS are made during the summer". It looks like Austin is doing all he can this summer...

This is interesting in that he was signed based solely on workouts I guess. He really has not played any meaningful minutes in his HHS career. I hope this is a good omen that CMU thinks enough of him to sign him this early. Congrats to Austin...

This has been one bizarre thread. We have people totally speculating stuff with not much or anything to go on and others saying if true, Bezold is not acting right. Then we hear that none of it is true in the first place...ugh...

Scoring double digits in 4 straight games against the best teams in the state is very impressive. They scored more runs against HHS than HHS had given up in previous 8 post season games combined. Congrats to WJ. Very deserving. Also congrats to my Birds for a heckuva season.

I think HHS has 5 or 6 guys on the baseball team that also played football. If HHS wins state in baseball, how many guys can say they won two state championships in the same year...wow...

One thing people need to realize when saying that HHS has not been to the state tournament since 1973 is that if you won the regional tournament in years past, you went to a sectional tournament (4 sectionals of 4 teams) and had to win that to get to the "state tournament". I don't know when the KHSAA changed it to a 16 team state tournament (like hoops). I know in 1981, HHS won the 9th Region and did it a couple of times in the 90's as well. I like bringing all 16 teams to the state tournament format...

That was impressive. Alex can fly - anyone who ever watched him as a WR already knew that. Didn't he run track previously? I did not know he played baseball until recently. Has he always played baseball at HHS??

Listening to the internet announcers discussing this play was comical. One actually said that even if the ball was foul, he would call the batter out because the ball may come back to fair territory...what?? The home plate ump had to be bailed out by the first base ump because he totally missed the call...

Birds flashed some leather the last two innings as well. Incredible diving grab by second baseman to get force at second base (and almost get a double play). Also a great play by the catcher on a strike out on a pitch in the dirt to come up throwing and gun down the runner at 3rd base to end the 6th inning. HUGE plays...

Great ending. Doty relieves Raisor and gets North Bullitt's best hitter on a called third strike to end game with bases loaded. What an ending!
