Couple observations: The weather was awful and if anybody thinks playing golf is easy try walking three and a half miles in nasty rainy weather. Then when it finally does become nice you are soaking wet the entire time you play. Mason County really knew how to play the home course. How many matches have they played away from home this year? The freshmen from NCC (McDonald) is a huge kid............Hits the ball a long way. Seemed athletic....Does he play other sports. Does anybody know the grades for the two young men from Highlands? Seeing some young players finish high shows you do not have to be a big hitter to be successful. I think one of Mason County's golfers who shot in the mid eighties was an 8th grader; plus you have one 8th grader in the top 10 from Silver Grove (Seiter). And 2 9th graders going to play in the state tourney who shot 79 (McDonald and Trelobs)!! I saw some schools there (By my recollection there are 18 in the region) that did not post scores so i am not sure if some of them left because of the delay or just did not post their players scores.

I think the QB position is the biggest issue. NO QB that can throw until you get to Fieger who is QBing the frosh team and he is only an 8th grader.............

And that was my point exactly!!!!!! Obviously these two will play again and hopefully it is another great game. It certainly will draw the casual fan (or the fan of teams like mine who will be one in done in the playoffs!!!!!)

Unfortunately or fortunately I was there for the duration with a group and what a long day. With all the rain it wreaked havoc on the course. Can anyone post scores for the top 15-20 golfers? I know there were a couple players that came out of nowhere and posted some really good scores. Also want to see who was the overall individual winner?

HMMMMM......Not a fan of either team but reading all the posts this sums things up for me especially since you are on the Colonels side of things......Covington Catholic players are pumped because they almost beat Highlands? I really do not get that. I would say it would make them angry that it sounds like they could have won that they did not. Channeling that anger into working hard to get the rematch. Meanwhile how can Highlands be doubting themselves? They won didn't they? I think sometimes people mistake how BGP posters and fans feel vs how the coaches and players really view things.

Well.....one thing for Highlands that I think has been a concern in the past is getting players 4 full quarters. Now I will say they do plenty of work to be in shape (I cannot believe anybody does any more than they do.......?) but when you are not playing 4 quarters every Friday I would think it would take its toll the first few times you do. This is tough because when you are in a position where you are blowing people out in all but the first game of the season (prior to this one) it becomes an issue. This game might do more for the Birds than you think. While many people on here talk about the confidence boost to CovCath and what this does for them.............I suspect this game will do plenty to help the Birds cause as the season progresses.

I think the reverse might be in order.....

Varsity is an "earned" level then. Being MVP of a freshmen football team is kind of like being the MVP of a scrimmage. Nothing counts until you play on Friday nights.......................

I for one hate any kind of all star team MVP's etc at any level below varsity. Kids at the freshmen leel and jv level need to see the varsity as teh prize not things at their levels.

Ok Sticker Mann I am going to agree that yes they now have some stability in the coaching ranks and your point about the next level kid and coaching them up is what is needed. The 2A situation is a disaster for this program for two reasons: 1. Having to compete at a larger school level with athletes that are not quite at that level as a group (several individual kids would be) 2. Being put in with NCC. If they were moved to 2A and NCC was not in 2A I do not think this would be as disasterous a sitation as I perceive it. Now think about it even if they were to make the playoffs they would be looking at a rematch with NCC early on in the playoffs. My thoughts are that Brossart does not need any sport to be so far behind NCC that it can be used against them. All other sports are on equal or better footing with NCC (and please NCC people do not bring up baseball because obviously the usage of one of your studs from last years team could really come back to haunt you). As long as they were not playing you could always play the "what if" game but you did not have to worry about the cold hard facts slapping Brossart in the face. Once the disparity becomes factual "so to speak" and kids see it year in and year out it can have an effect on where kids want to go which also in turn has an effect on Brossart's other sports if they are 2 or 3 sport players. Bottom line is Brossart I think was fine as long as they did not have to play NCC. Carve out a niche in there class and develop a program, which I think with all the mistakes along the way has been set back. However, from what I am at least reading the coaching staff seems to be quality and committed.

The way I see this snakeshot_2000 thinks Beechwood is supposed to win all games except maybe one or two a year. In that case maybe the Tigers need to schedule Trinity or Lasalle so they can play some teams "they are not supposed to beat.":rolleyes:
