  1. Boy now that is not a good thing to have. At a district tournament you need the highest qualified folks in your "district" to do things, not just the home guy. Q one of my points was about the free throw shooting........what gives on that? Has it become a mental block for the team? Is it consistently that way or is it one game 80% one game 50%? Also, I will give you credit you answer all comers and seem to be put out on an island on BGP. If the same statements or comments were made in a football thread there would be 100 Bluebird faithful beating me over the head with answers...........and chastizing me non stop for questioning anything. Knowing many of the younger players in the Highlands system I hope they will create an atmosphere that can put basketball back on top. And I do not know who you are but sometimes I say things just to ellicit a response from you............
  2. Does anybody know for sure who should have received possession?
  3. I do not say "what is wrong with Highlands basketball." I can say this team that I have seen play cannot handle pressure very well, seems to be looking over their shoulder at times when they play and pass up good shots, inconsistent not only from game to game but quarter to quarter; seem to have big runs and give up big runs. Need more floor leadership and in the games I have seen shoot free throws poorly. I have read about the substitution patterns etc but do not address those things because I do not know over the course of thrity games what that has been.
  4. I have been to several games and speak the truth as I see it. Am I not allowed to have a Highlands opinion or is that reserved only for those that live in Ft. Thomas? I stand by what I say about the basketbnall program and team in general.
  5. Hate to say this but maybe Highlands should stick to the "luck of the draw." They got the lucky draw staying away from Newport and NCC this year.
  6. Well Highlands would have been a three seed at best (losing to Newport and NCC) and did not play Dayton this year. Based on last night's game they could have been a four seed if they would have lost to Dayton in the regular season. Best guess considering everyone did not play each other is the seeds: NCC Newport Highlands Dayton Bellevue
  7. I expect no issues with Bellevue as quite frankly Bellevue is not near the team Dayton is in my opinion. Always a lot of reasons for Highlands not performing well be it the exhaustive poor officiating, not healthy (nobody is 100% healthy thsi time of year....always somebody banged up), bad subbing patterns, bad free throw shooting, etc. etc etc. Bottom line is they are not capable for some reason of performing well over four quarters. You say the margin of victory could have been more if.....if.......if....I guarantee you somebody from Dayton could provide three "if's" to show why Dayton was the better team last night and should have defeated the Bluebirds............Just curious.......If the Highlands football team had a first round playoff game against Dayton and only won by one touchdown what would the outcry be? One thing you mentioned I have noticed in the few Highlands games I have seen is a reluctance to shoot at times from the outside.......is that a product of fear? poor coaching? looking over your shoulder to see if you are going to get pulled?
  8. This is a point that I think needs to be looked at across the board. Not that a person would call a good game or bad game but why open yourself up to this.
  9. Ok I go back to my point in another forum Q that you ripped me for and that is Highlands is competitive at a small school class A level only this year in basketball. This is another point of proof that this team underachieves as much or more than any other team in this area.
  10. I got to meet BigBack this weekend as he was refereeing my son's games in a tournament and he is a very genuine and sincere person. Kids liked him as an official as he would encourage them and give them some tips if warranted.
  11. Wow.............then that total may very well be correct.....
  12. Is this really true? The original post was that somebody heard they had 26 techinicals....................Not saying one way or the other but can this be confirmed?
  13. Well........I am picking the Bluebirds especially off the huge win over Beechwood on Friday...................That being said I am hoping Dayton can get this into a uptempo situation with forcing Highlands guards to handle the ball agiainst pressure.
  14. I understand sarcasm but as a team in the same district as they are I kind of see this as also a put down of their players who after all are kids...............
  15. Ok lets not cut down the nets yet boys.........This is a win over Beechwood not over anybody who would remotely make the regional tournament, which the Bluebirds should..................
  16. This is a tough situation for an educator I have respected and worked with for years in Coach B. Because it is him I feel that he will make the right decisions. Can someone please list the weight classes and the members from Campbell who are going to represent the team at regionals? Thanks
  17. The only "hatin on the Birds" goes on during football season and that is out of jealousy more than anything else. I would venture to guess most people enjoy playing Highlands in basketball and are not too much afraid of a team that is 7-15 and the combined record of the 7 teams they have beaten are 58-100. Which of course include all those stellar victories against those Class A teams (Sayre, Bellevue, Bracken, Walton and lest we forget the 1 - 15 Seven Hills team).
  18. And your multiple posting of shots (in a couple different threads) at Newport about players, where they are coming from, eligibility, etc. is kind of tiresome.
  19. Well then I guess Highlands had an abberation against NCC playing them close????? And evidently the Bluebirds have "played like crap" several nights this year. What is there record again?
  20. Again I am not sold on Highlands being that much better than Dayton..................Now I know they should be and can be but that would not surprise me if Dayton hung tough with them. Highlands size will obviously be a problem for Dayton but if they can spread them out and Highlands is having one of their play no defense, miss a ton of free throws, sub constantly, and turn the ball over games..........it could be interesting...................Or Highlands may very well win both games on their side of the bracket by 30+ points............
  21. Well do not let facts get in the way of a good discussion then. Better do a little research and have some insight before making statements.
  22. Very inaccurate but some people are just looking for a rise.........Any coach of a girls varsity program will tell you they will scrimmage their middle school boys teams and cannot beat them. Seriously come on man.
  23. I think this is such a tough sell at the high school level. Too many variables including size of school, talent level you get year in and year out, etc. I think you need to be able to see more than wins and loses. For my money Mike Code is the coach I think could go to any program and have an immediate impact on the quality of play at that school, regardless if it was a Boone County or a Calvary. Therefore I think he is the best in the area. Coach Faust is one of the better in game coaches according to other coaches so he needs to rank near the top. Looking at small school coaches I think you need to look at who maximizes talent and does "more with less." In that regard I know it is on the outskirts but Jon Jones at Gallatin has been knocking off the big boys for years and has built one heck of a program. Two up and coming coaches that while I am going off hearsay that are trying hard to build programs are Jim Hicks at Bellevue and Mike Walls at Silver Grove. I saw our team play Silver Grove earlier in the year and I know in talking to some of their parents they are starting no seniors and maybe only one junior. I think they have 2 8th graders and at least three freshmen playing varsity. Bellevue I have not seen but have been told that they are becoming a much better team under the first year coach and that they are very young as well. I am hoping in the near future that our coach Aric Russell gets our program going in the direction that I think he can. He may be at this point very underrated even after winning a regional title.
  24. Score closer than I think many would of thought. I have not yet seen dayton play but heard they can play decent this year. How did the game go as far as Dayton hanging with St. Henry? "Q" any thoughts about Dayton?
