Pick-six

This game was a battle and tale of 2 half’s. Fleming shot out to a 27-8 lead at halftime and East came battling back in the 2nd half. Fleming moved the ball but East stopped them on downs inside the 15 a few times. East scored last and went for 2 with 1:01 left. Fleming stopped them and then just ran out the clock. Really a fun game to watch. Kudos to both teams for the grit and tenacity.

HUGE win for East Carter!

It will be interesting to see how East responds to a team that is competitive. They have been impressive against teams that are struggling but West has some players and will get after you.

Tough game. Fleming fell behind 21-0 early and came back and took the lead. Greenup scores with :36 seconds left to regain the lead. Fleming County drove all the way down and got stopped on the 5 to end the game. Very fun game to watch but a heartbreaker to lose.

Nice win for the Panthers. They got out to a 41-6 lead early in the 3rd quarter and Nicholas hit some long balls late to keep it interesting. Fleming had a lot of different kids score and scored on offense, defense and special teams (was called back).

West Carter

West Carter is a pretty athletic team. Cline is an absolute stud. Defensively, they will get to the football in a hurry.

This was the varsity final. Cline is a player for West. Had a TD receiving and on an INT return.

You don't think Belfry will be tough this year?

I think they will be improved from last year. They started several young kids, or played several young kids, last season. They will return 8 starters on each side of the ball. Their district looks much different with Russell, Bath and West Carter gone. Fleming beat Mason, Lewis and Pendleton last season (which was considered a down year) and return more than them. Powell is kind of a wild card to me. I don’t know a lot about them. I know they made a good run 2 years ago and will graduate a stud running back this spring. With what they return and with some quality young kids moving up to varsity, I think they will be much improved from last season. The key will be turnovers. This season they turned it over a ton and didn’t force many. If they get that in check, I look for them to have a good year.

I do see it. I am just saying every other sport does what they complain about football doing and everyone doesn't make it in football. Also, like I said the number of schools playing football in Ohio greatly outnumbers that in Ky.

Not every team makes it in football. Many districts have 5 or 6 teams and yes, some have 4 or 3. In Kentucky every team makes it in every other sport. Are district tournaments not just like the playoffs for football? My thinking is, any time you get an extra week of practice with your team and play a game, it is a positive. Ohio is much different than Kentucky due to population and the number of teams. What works for us might not work for you and vice versa.

Unfortunately, many believe that. And because of that they want to argue about making changes to football constantly. I have never seen an argument on a basketball page to shorten the season or limit the number of teams making the district tournament or regional tournament. The number 4 seed in basketball plays the number 1 seed every year, right? Why not eliminate that? For instance in the 64th district Ashland will play Rose Hill in the first round of the district tournament. By your argument they shouldn't play. Ashland just beat them by 35 points a few weeks ago and by 36 earlier in the season. Why play this meaningless game? Is that not the same thing you just said about 1st round football games? Tell me the difference.
