I think it is a tribute to both Boyle Co. and Johnson Central to even be mentioned in this discussion. They are both County schools that have to play with the players they have, not who they can get. Boyle is a 3A school in size playing up to 4A this year. To then compare these 4A schools to the 6A power houses is not really fair. No, they couldn't play with these 6A schools every year, but we are only talking about this year. Give these two coaching staffs the same number of players and the same opportunities that these schools have and this chest thumping would end very quickly.

Tommy is a young 14, will graduate at 17. Who knows how much more he will develop by the time he is ready for college. He is getting a lot of playing time now on a very good team. He is a player that can go both ways and can run with the ball when he catches it. As a defensive end you would never guess he is a freshman.

The first team defense for Boyle did not give up any points. The kickoff return by Bourbon was against the JV kickoff unit and the other score was after two bad snaps over the freshman QB's head for a 30 yd loss to the 1 yd line. Bourbon had only one real gain on offense against the 1st team defense and that was a catch and run for about 40 yds. Boyle's JV's actually held Bourbon in check really since they played their starters the entire game.

I think any of the top four in Cal Prep deserve to be there and could be interchanged. I would have FD at # 5 instead of North Hardin. It is still an honor to be in the top 5 in the state. It means more to have this discussion after the playoffs.

Another dominating performance by the Rebels. Anderson Co. is not that bad, Boyle is just that good. The scary part is that Boyle seems to be getting better as the season goes on. These two will probably meet in the first game of the playoffs. Not something that AC is looking forward to. Good to have Bartleson and Colwick back close to 100% again.

You don't get the big trophy at the end of the year based on the number of running clocks you had during the year. This is nice for the fans to talk about, but I guarantee not one Boyle County coach is thinking about the running clock. They want to win every down of defense and offense. These kids are working and thinking the right way. They are very confident , but at the same time respect their opponents as they should. Anderson County is a good team that might have been over rated at the beginning of the season, with a chance to get some recognition against the number one team in their class. Don't expect them to just lay down without putting up a fight on their home field. I still pick our Rebels to win big.

Mercer by as much as the coach decides. Mercer is a very good team that has played a tough schedule. Running clock.

Congrats. Nice win. I am not surprised that much after seeing them both against Boyle. Mercer will continue to make noise this year. David has the whole program on the right track.

The only real comparison I can make is from the 7 on 7 between FD and Boyle in the summer. I know 7 on 7 doesn't mean anything, but Boyle handled FD quite easily and that was when FD still had their all world receiver before he transferred. As far as who is not in the same class, just remember that arrogance and informed are not the same.

Wilson may be the best overall lineman in the state. He is strong aggressive and hard working. He can play both ways well. MTSU got a real steal here. He will stand out at the next level as well.

I think this game can be a toss up. Mercer has better talent this year than most people realize and are well coached. CAL has the advantage by playing at home, but I think Mercer will be playing with a chip on their shoulder. I saw them both against Boyle and saw some good things to like about both teams. Still I am pulling for a Mercer win.

We don't want to minimize what this team has done so far. At the same time realize that the schedule has been easy and CAL was not as good as advertised. I think a win over Highlands and Lex Cath regardless of the margin would make the Boyle coaching staff very happy. Both of these teams are much better than CAL. It was a dominating performance by the Rebels. We still have several things to work on before meeting the Bluebirds next Friday.

The big question mark in my mind about CAL is the 6-0 win against South Oldham and the loss to Ballard that Boyle handled last year without too much trouble. I like Boyle as I said earlier, but CAL is certainly a good team. I think Boyle has too many weapons though.

I like Boyle in this one, 28-14. Should be a good one to watch.

Mercer did some nice things in the game that they can build on. The long pass they scored on was against some of Boyle's 2nd string secondary. Boyle County all state safety Reese Smith was on the sidelines when the pass was completed against his replacement. Good luck to Mercer the rest of the season.

I know Lexington Cath can score. I think their problem is on defense. This is where I think both BC and JC are better. Time will tell.

Mercer had a very good win at Anderson that did not surprise me. Boyle is at a different level though.Rebels 45-7.

Anderson is the favorite and playing at home. I think the game will be closer than most people think. Mercer has a chance for an upset by playing its best and catching Anderson overlooking them.

This game would not have been close even if Burns had not been ejected for Danville. I think the Rebels roll in this one 45-7.

Boyle County really needs a worthy opponent. Their starters played only about a quarter in their scrimmage game and 6 minutes in their game on Saturday. I like the Rebels in this one 49-7.

Mercer will be too much for West Carter with the returning cast they have in place. I look for a 35-14 type win for the Titans.

I watched the Boyle Co. at Madison Central scrimmage. Boyle dominated on both sides of the ball. Not sure that MC even had a first down against the BC first team defense. Boyle pretty much did what they wanted to on offense. I think the score was 44-3 after the 3 quarters that the varsity teams played.

I know that everyone wants to talk about offense. With Boyle Co. you really need to be concerned about their defense if you plan to beat them. They have size,speed, skilled, veteran defenders and toughness. Then you have to stop that potent offense. Don't go to sleep on them because of the Corbin game. There were so many things that they had to overcome in that game which made that loss somewhat misleading. Not trying to take anything away from Corbin.

Boyle was in foul trouble from the first quarter on. Many of Casey County's fouls were in the last 5 mins. when they fouled on every play, trying to get back in game. Many fouls were touch fouls both ways and then a player might get hammered with nothing being called. I have been watching High School basketball in Ky. for many years and this present group of officials appear to be weaker than any time I can remember. I see why players,coaches and fans become discouraged when there is almost zero consistency from one game to the next in the way the games are being called. You can only hope that the best officials will be selected to call in tournament play rather than some type of seniority, good old boy, buddy way of choosing.

Reese Smith just continues to amaze with his toughness and lack of fear regardless of the sport he is playing. Such a leader on this team, We just hope Hotchkiss can come back. He is the same type of leader as Reese. Of course his recovery is the most important thing. Very good win for Boyle.
