  1. He has thickened up quite a bit and is throwing it down on a much more consistent basis in open gym which means nothing but you can clearly see the improvement over last year. He will open some eyes.
  2. He was a man against boys back in MS but IMO everyone has caught up to him. He's still a good player but not dominant like he was in MS.
  3. The player list is good and of course up for discussion but there will be a sleeper in Colin Hathorn at Cooper. He will give the Jags a true "banger" that they have really NEVER had to allow them to win the district for a 3rd year in a row IMO. Any of the Top 5 teams could make it to Rupp.
  4. CV will surely be missed. One of the most pleasant officials I have ever had the pleasure of reffing my games. One of the those officials you can actually talk to and get a staight answer without an attitude or fear of getting flagged. Wishing him a speedy recovery and many prayers go out to him and his family.
  5. Freshman and JV means absolutely NOTHING unless it translates to FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. This is not to say the wins aren't important at those levels but to think that just because a freshman, JV or MS team has great success and that will automatically produce winning district/regional/State titles one is sadly mistaken. That same Ryle JV team lost to Cooper's JV team, who is 5-1, but no one is proclaiming Cooper to be a power next year as no one should. Not demininshing a great win for the program but as others have stated, the bigger question is why hasn't all the great success at the lower levels produced any district titles over the last few years? I tend say let's wait and see what happens over the next couple year's. NKY needs another power and Ryle has the talent to do but until it's proven on Friday nights...it is what it is, good wins for the Freshman and JV programs and that's all.
  6. 1st both are very very very good players. I will agree with many of the posters but having watched both since their 8th grade years I will say the Q overall is the better PG, and that is to take nothing away from Bolden. IMO Q has a much better shot and is equal in his handling of the ball with both hands. His vision is superior and does get his players involved much more (i.e. his teammates better be looking for his passes or they will get drilled in he head). As stated by several, Bolden tends to be too left-hand dominant from time to time and can over-dribble BUT if you want a player to take the final shot of game to win it, it's a toss up as either can get to the basket when ever they want or drill a 20ft jumpshot. Size will matter at the next level but Bolden does have another year to add bulk, as Q used to carry the same type of build, but height wise it may become an issue but he will handle that I'm sure. Both of these players can flat out get it done with no questions asked and knowing both I wish them nothing but success. I'd take either one to run my team and you just never know, they both may get that match-up everyone wants to see come Sweet 16 time as both teams have more than of a legit shot of getting there again this year.
  7. I commend Scott on their great 5-0 start but one needs to look deep into the schedule to understand how each of these teams have been or has not been prepared for district play. This WILL be the first time Scott has been tested. They are 5-0 and nothing can be done about who was on their schedule but consider the opponents of these 2 schools to date. 3 of Scotts wins have come vs. 2A schools of which only 1 has a winning record and a D2/3 Ohio school who is 0-4 and never been known for doing ANYTHING on the football field. The other remaining win is vs. 4A Holmes who does have a 3-1 record but all 3 wins are vs. 2A schools. While Holy Cross was a State Champ 2 years ago they, like Cooper, were hit hard with graduation and have been outscored 185-34. So as I said, the schedule is the schedule and they are to be commended for what they have done. Cooper is 2-3, can't dispute the record but they have faced much better competition which has prepared them for district play. Of their 5 opponents, there has been (1) 2A opponent in NCC (last year's State Champion and who undoubtedly has had one of the toughest schedules in NKY with 4A,5A, and (3) 6A schools to date) and (4) 6A schools 2 of which Cooper led deep into the 2nd half before eventually losing those games and one of which, SK, who arguably will make it to the State-semi's if not win it all, yeah, I said it. My point in all the above is one team has been battle tested and one hasn't and this will come into play in this game in my opinion. Cooper is not as "down" as most believe so let's just see how this "second season" plays out before calling them the doormat of the district which I have seen someone earlier call them.
  8. Sure it was just a rumor and it may not make a difference either way but is Kuntz in a boot? SK does have a huge team just like everyone else on Cooper's schedule but I'm sure they will show up and see what happens which could be anything.
  9. In the immortal words of Bart Scott....Can't Wait!! Some eyes might be opened tonite
  10. Good news! Hope he continues to have a great season and more will come.
  11. Congrats to the young Jags. Played much better last nite and getting closer to the level that many of them played at for the feeder team. Keep working Cooper Frosh!!
  12. No ill will Clyde. Your posts are always good. The Coop Squad has much work to do if they are to make the playoffs and like you said have success down road. Just taking one at a time. I will say this. Those who under estimate Boone will get beat. They are no where near as bad as those first two losses and I would not be shocked to see them finish high in their district.
  13. Not really sure why this is "uh oh" for Cooper? Most people have absolutely no clue how there is virtually no depth on this team. The object of the game was to win which is what they did. 22-7 is pretty good in my book and I could care less about style points. The Jags had a bad 2nd Q and had it not been for a tipped INT that set up Boones only score the game would have been 22-0 minimum. Just like the NCC game they got stronger in the 2nd half and took care of business and at the end of the day that's all that matters. The Jags are 2-1 and could be, no should be 3-0, vs teams that have been bigger than them not to mention that have either been full platooning or nearly platooning. Cooper has 8 players that go both ways and are playing 4 sophs a considerable amount of PT. Outside of the team and true fans there was not alot of expectations for Cooper because of the huge losses from last years State Runner-up team. They will not be favored in any of the their remaining games with the exception of one probably not to mention they will be out-sized/out-manned. I will take an ugly win vs style points and move on. Next....
  14. Bottom line is this, just because you have enough students on the practice field does not mean you have "players". While I will give in to the fact that all players need to be developed no matter how good they are there is something to be said that not all persons dressed in a football uniform are ready for Friday nights. I said this in another thread. There are enough bodies walking the hallways of Cooper and probably several other Boone Co. HS's but the fact remains, at least at Cooper, those kids that aren't committed to the grind of a summer schedule are simply not going to come out. In Cooper's case it has NOTHING to do with development as their coaching staff is solid but sometimes you can't turn an "apple into an orange". It will be 5-8 years before this program is ready to platoon and couple that with the fact that the draw that Cooper has to pull from is the smallest of all the 4 schools in the area it simply not going to happen anytime soon. Their MS school program is developing future players but it is only in it's 3rd year so it will take some time but until then "It is what it is" and the starters are simply going to have to be in better shape to endure long games with limited time coming off the field. HHS is a storied program and all this rhetoric is like comparing said "apple to an orange" and neither holds any water IMO. CHS is in it's 6th season and as long they are competitive and the MS program keeps developing players for the future they will be just fine. The only school that is platooing the majority of it's player is Ryle and they have not only the number of bodies to do it but also more importantly the Athletes to do it..
  15. While practicing in both sports during the summer up until the dead period is common place, it typically is shut down and there focus on strictly football once July hits for most squads. However, if anyone know CVH he's like an energizer bunny who continuously works hard at both sports. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
  16. Exactly! Different generation of kids nowadays.
  17. You can count all the numbers you want of boys "walking the hallways". Bottom line is this, once Coach Borchers posts the summer practice schedule 80% of said "boys walking the hallways" disappear like Casper the Friendly Ghost. Cooper will most likely continue to be non-platooning team for a few more years to come. Having a large number of boys in the school means nothing if you are not committed and dedicated to "work". Keep in mind this school is only in it's 6th year and while last year's run was more than anyone could have ever imagined that was a special group of which that put in the work and everyone knew this year's team had an up hill challenge ahead of them. I fully expect this year's group, and next year's for that matter, to compete but achieving that benchmark of last year may not come until two more years from now when the sophomores and freshman are seniors and juniors. The middle school program is in it's 3rd year and there will be some residual benefit of for those players who are running the same system that the varsity is running at an early age as well. This year's team is young, inexperienced and frankly only 3 players, that started or played significantly last year, are playing/starting in the same postion as last year. Not an excuse as it is what it is but you can't replace experience at the flip of a switch. The young one's will get baptized quickly.
  18. They will be different. Very tough to replace the 7 key Srs. 5 of which started for 3 years. Most expect a huge drop off from the Jags but don't be surprised if they make a run at the district title for a 3rd straight year (yes I know they lost the tie-breaker last year). Everyone seriously needs to keep more than one eye on Scott.
  19. Nothing against the NCC players at all as they are very good but IMO they are not at the same level. Moeves is going to have to adjust to the play in this region on a regular basis where he may have only went up against this type of play a third of the time coming in from WV and that is not a slam on that region nor am I saying one is better than the other (but recent success at Rupp speaks for itself). Time will tell and it should be a heck of a season for both teams. I know NCC has one hell of a coach and that speaks volumes and like they say on "on any given nite" the ball can go either way. Holmes, NCC, or CovCath should be the favorites to get out of the 9th.
  20. Cameron Racke out at SK and Cole Hegyi out at Campbell Co. are two other players to watch as well.
  21. The younger brothers of Zach McNeil (Sean) and Aaron Morgan (Dante' Hendrix) should be heavy contributors to the Cooper Jag program.
  22. Coach Blev leaving is HUGE as he was coach Sully's right hand man and had just a heck of a rapport with players. Hate to see him go for multiple reasons but wish him the best. Coach Sully will find the "right" person for the job but this one is tough to replace. Got to keep moving on though to try in keep improving on the recent success. Got some young talent coming up that may see some varsity minutes early so good luck to the Jags in 2013/14.
