  1. Wow...What a thread but can't we all just get along? I will admit there is a buzz in CC but I will hold judgement until the games are played. They will have the nicest facility in NKY that's for sure.
  2. Davidson is a non-scholarship school like all the schools in the Pioneer Conference (Butler, Morehead, Dayton, etc) which is the only Division 1 (FSC) non-scholarship footballl conference in the country. This year will be the first year that the Pioneer Conference champion will receive an automatic berth in the FCS playoffs. Congrats to both these players for pursuing their dreams at the next level!
  3. Highly unlikely and probably won't happen but he does have family (very close family) in the Cooper district. However, everything I have heard from some at Holmes is that he is in fact headed for Newport.
  4. EXCELLENT POST and frankly one of the best in months. Too many times everyone gets caught up in the "Big Time Program" mindset when really it doesn't matter. If the player is pursuing his dream of playing at the next level regardless if it's FBS, FCS (scholarship or NS programs), D2, D3 or NAIA or heck for the matter JC, and gaining an education let's celebrate it and congratulate all these players. Less than 2% ever make it to those big time programs and many will stand on the sidelines and hold their helmet for several if not all their years. If a young man can reach a goal and play at a much smaller program go for it! Congrats to the young man and go Sycamores!
  5. Couldn't agree more. Funny how those who don't know either player or their TRUE situation are so quick to judge. Again, I'm sure Coach Nevels is doing what he feels is best for "his" program. That same right should be afforded to the player. Get off the young man's back and let him do what he and his family feels is best for him. Life is all about choices and he has every right to make that choice whether he succeeds or fails.
  6. I've personally coached, "not just known kids they've played b-ball with" which is a sport they won't play at the next level, both of these players and there is no "syndrome". They are no different than most kids from time to time and once you get to know them and understand what makes them tick they can be excellent players. Both have had challenging upbringings and that is not an excuse but fact. Did I need to kick both in the pants from time to time, absolutely, but in no way shape or form do these players have deplorable attitudes like what is being tossed around. I never disagree with a coaches way of handling his players and I don't know coach Nevels so I will assume he's doing what is best for his program but unless you're an insider who know's the FACTS let's not assume it's all on the player because if his attitude was that bad he wouldn't have been a starter on varsity since his freshman year and that is regardless of his size. Sometimes fresh starts are best for BOTH parties so let's hope that is the case here and leave the personal "assumptions" at the door.
  7. I can promise you this, whoever gets him their chances of winning district or potentionally getting to BG improve dramatically. There are very few in NKY that will be able to handle him 1 on 1 when he's on defense and when he's motivated on offense he can move anyone.
  8. C'mon man with all the Mr. Football stuff! Additonally, there is possibility Cole won't even play FB after this season and focus primarily on basketball. Not sure how you assess he's the best QB in NKY as that would assume you've seen all the QB's in NKY and just because you haven't heard of name out there doesn't mean you start etching names on the Mr. Kentucky award but like you've said it's your opinion which your entitled to. Let it play out as there are alot of kids missing off this list but I won't start handing out Best this and Best that just yet.
  9. The KY Select 9th grade team edged out a win vs. the Kentucky Select 8th grade team. Not sure how they did afterwards but overall a good showing it appears from the NKY teams.
  10. Take the focus of the games for a second. A lot depends on how much hitting takes place in practice. If you're a team that has to play the majority of its best players both ways on Friday nites there is no way there should be hitting going on throughout the week. Ive been told by some of the coaches that Ryle bangs hard virtually everyday in practice, this takes a toll on players bodies and I would venture to say this had an impact on Travis. Contrast that to a team like Cooper last season who played 8 players both ways the entire season and practiced in shells virtually the entire season and kept virtually everyone healthy for their run to Bowling Green. If teams don't have enough players to platoon on Friday nites they better limit the contact through the week.
  11. Interesting topic. Not being from here I was very surprised that HS's did not have cuts in football but then again most of the schools need or can use the "bodies" and there doesn't appear to be a glaring issue even when teams reach the century mark. It works so I guess there really isn't a need to have them. That is correct that there is no rule about the double number situations, you see it repeatedly in college. They just can't be on the field at the same time.
  12. Yes I am referring to area. Addtionally while it may or may not be signficant they do have 200+ more students in the school. IMO that does have an impact on athletes to pull from. Cooper's district is sandwiched heavily by Boone and Ryle who are getting the lions portion of students.
  13. He will end up somewhere for sure and do not count out UK. He would fit into their offense when they go 4-5 wide. Same comments have been made of another receiver/db from NKY as well with regard to size. Someone will take a shot on Fant as he is way to good to pass up and he makes plays.
  14. Frist, I have said from the beginning that this could be Scott's year. They alot returning this year and yes they gave Conner and SO all they could handle. However, you cannot lump Cooper into the discussion on enrollment because there is virturally 0 difference (about 10 kids according to US News). Conner and SO on the other hand have a larger district to pull from. The favorites for this district ought to be SO first and Scott 2nd just based on what is returning but at the end of the day you still have to play the game. Should be interesting with two of the big guns (Conner & Cooper) losing so much from last years teams.
  15. Anything is possible but it will be a tough road for the Jags if it happens. Heavily depleted by Srs. but the skill postions are very solid. O-line is the biggest question. I'm sure they would love another crack at that great team that returns nearly everyone and is hands down the favorite in 5A but would love to see a game with no turnovers on the first two offensive plays. Fant is a best the receiver returning IMO this year in the State.
  16. I fully agree SO is the favorite with virturally everyone back with the exception of Sherry however Scott is the sleeper that no one better take their eye off of. They could be the Cooper of 2011 with alot of returning players.
  17. His mom told me at the 33rd District tourney that when they lost to Cooper it was his last game. Wherever he goes, attending in the Spring gives him a distinct advantage over waiting until the fall.
  18. Couldn't agree more! I was a heavy believer in SC for months but the closer it gets to 3:30 I can see him wearing Blue. On thing about UK they have done everything to get that bad taste out of DB's mouth from the previouse regime and it doesn't hurt that his dad is a die-hard UK fan. Great day for Drew and equally NK football as a whole that there are some D1 athletes in this part of the State as well.
  19. Great kid and an even greater set of parents. It's been a pleasure to know Drew and watch him develop. I was with him at both the NUC combines mentioned and he performed very well. Wherever he ends up he will do well. He's a competitor with a strong work ethic. Best of luck my man!
  20. That's the recruiting game and this is how it works. No matter how good you are and whether you have committed or not, ANY good coach is ALWAYS looking for your replacement. While Q may be a lil uneasy with the recruitment of other guards, including the dynamite JC PG coming in next season, I don't think he will waver and shy away from the competition. I've known him for years and he and his "camp" are diehard UofL backers so I'd be surprised if he de-commits however it could happen. Just the nature of the beast that is recruiting.
  21. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if his childhood friends and teammates (Green and Cunningham) follow right along. I've known these 3 since 3rd grade and typically when you see one you'll find at least one of the other ones if not both. Best of luck to Tre' and hope it all works out.
