  1. You may have a good point but you have no clue how Ryle operates. The next coach WILL come from this area. There are too many extremely qualified coaches in this area and they like to keep things at arms length and RARELY step outside the box like BC did with hiring it's football coach (which was a great move IMO). Blevins may or may not get one of the open jobs and if he doesn't that will be that schools loss but a tremendous gain for Cooper. As for his demeanor on the sideline, which I guess would be RHN's 1st question on the application, I can tell you I have seen alot worse in NKY. The guy is solid and I wish him the best whatever or whenever he gets a HC gig. Talent has not been an issue at Ryle as both Gray MS and Ockerman MS has sent a solid group of players that could have produced a much stronger competitive teams at the next level but I will agree whoever gets this job had better start to develop a relationship with these two MS programs.
  2. I would be shocked if that happened and I really don't see that to be the case IMO.
  3. Some may not like him as a basketball official but James Pouncy is one hell of an AAU Coach. Been doing it over 20 years and has had some of the best talent play for him at some point over the years. Knows the game pretty well IMO and prepares many of them for varsity competition early in their HS careers.
  4. Blevins is solid on all accounts. 1. Relates well to player 2. Knows how to chop a player down and build him back up (something I "heard" Mullins could not do) 3. Knows the game inside and out (Sully's right-hand man). Where ever he ends up he is going to have immediate impact. Selifishly I wished he'd stay at Cooper but this dude can coach and has earned a head coaching gig.
  5. Cooper HS WR/DB Aaron Morgan has been invited to participate in the Rivals / Under Armour Camp April 20th. He wi also attend Jr, Day at Ohio U. March 23rd.
  6. Why would this be a bad hire? If he can turn Newport around he could turn Ryle around especially with the pool he has to draw from and 2 middle schools the feed the HS. If you are commenting on his style of coaching it looks to me like the results speak for themselves. 20+ win season this year in Newport and a region semi-finalist is pretty darn good IMO.
  7. And so is Ohio's. The fact remains each State is different. The methodology for Ohio is solid and has worked for a very long time. Bottom line is you better have a strong record and vs. some solid teams that are going to help you in the end from a calculation standpoint. In Ohio, the "fat" is trimmed early and in KY it's trimmed after the 1st or 2nd week of the playoffs. One of my son's played in Ohio and his team was 7-3 but was beat out by the slimmest of margins. Crushing blow but losing their last game of the year cost them. Ky's system is Ky's system and it works here in Ky. but like another poster stated, most of those teams with significantly losing records get eliminated quick so it all works it'self out in the end.
  8. Interesting discussion. Bottom line in all this is you have to have the development to keep the high level of play. Many talk about the strong freshman classes at not only this school but many others as well but the key is to transform this to the varsity level. Other than the immediate area, there is not alot of attention paid to freshman championships. The talent pool is always going to be there at Ryle as their pool of players is huge, regardless of the small piece that broke off with the creation of Cooper, and Conner was hurt more than Cooper. It's what gets done with said talent that matters at the end of the day.
  9. It's a shame that there are so many opening in NKY because I know that Cooper is going to probably lose one of the best assistants in Brett Blevins. Dude can coach, motivate and has the respect of alot of people. Gonna hate to see him go but respect him enough to say he's earned a HC gig. If Ryle gets him he will turn them around real quick!! Rod Snapp is another one that would thrive at any of the openings, not sure about WV as I don't know their situation but anyone that can create a winning program at Newport with all it's challenges would have to get a strong look as well, another motivator that gets his players to buy-in to what he's selling.
  10. Wouldn't say he stole the mins, he's just that good...
  11. Hate to correct you on the never playing a down of football on his life. While minimal LeRoy has played 3 years of football in the BC Pee wee league but was turned off by some of his treatment by a couple of coaches there. Granted its not HS ball but the young man is an athlete and undoubtly the fastest player in the school. He wanted to play wide receiver but felt there was no need since BC ran the ball 95% of the time. Regardless of size he could help BC if he decided to play. D1 colleges wouldn't be trying to contact him if they didnt think he could play. He can run and he can catch.
  12. Couldn't be said any better. This is peanuts compared to paying for a college education and I can tell you first hand that NCSA is by far and away one of the best. My oldest was a client years ago and I got a call from them last month trying to reach him about assisting with a job now that he was done with school. Totally caught me off guard but again another service they provided without me even asking. Players and parents need to educate themselves on how the recruiting game REALLY works.
  13. You are sadly mistaken if you think "it's the coaches JOB" to get their players out there. HS head coaches are paid to do one thing, win Varsity football games. This has nothing to do with laziness especially with budgets the way that they are. Countless hours are spent on game planning, practice, equipment issues, media, field mgmt, etc. and in this case the Cooper HC is also the AD not to mention has a family so as you can imagine there is not alot of "free time" to put into making sure all his players end up somewhere. The HC can assist most in helping with creation of a h/l tape, absolutely, but in no way is it HIS JOB to take care of the process beyond that. They can help with some contacts of course but there not much time for everything else that goes with the recruiting process. Some coaches may do more some may do less but unless you have a well established and dedicated personnel to do this and have unlimited time on their hands this is how the process works. Parents have to be actively involved and yes these types of recruiting services are extremely helpful and they do come at a price. So if you're not a 4-5 Star Blue Chip athlete, and their aren't many in NKY, it's up to the player and parents to promote their athlete. Recruiting is a business just like camps and combines.
  14. Glad to see BC stepped outside the box on this hire and it will take something like this to get the "Jimmies and Joes" to get out on the field and this might be the answer. Maybe the fastest kid in the school will have a change of heart and decide to play football again instead of just running track. 6'1" and about 200lbs, running like a deer and get this, receiving letters for FOOTBALL from the likes of Missouri and Purdue while not playing one single down of football should tell everyone something major needed to change and this just may do it. I wish BC well, except when they play Cooper of course....lol
  15. I'm sure this will all sort itself out on the field. There will be several teams in the hunt this coming season but the Incoming Cooper team will be more than decent. This will be the 3rd year for most of them running EXACTLY what the Cooper varsity runs (scaled down of course). They will have a good mix of size, speed and very, very good skill position players plus adding in what they have coming from the BC league this team could make a run.
  16. With what I saw out of PRP they would have been 0-3 vs NCC, CovCath and Cooper. Here's why: NCC would have posed serious problems with its size, length and solid shooting which is much better than Holmes with a solid pg, CC is also balanced with one of the best PGs in the State that can shoot probably better than Bolden on a consistent basis and a solid running mate in Fredricks and finally they would have had trouble with Coopers defense. No way do they get all the second shots vs the team that played the best defense, points allowed wise, for nearly the majority of the season and has two very good shooters. PRP would have struggled IMO vs. the 9ths top 4. If PRP normally plays the way they did today I stand by that. Go Dogs and represent the 9th as best you can!
  17. One letter sums it up.......Q Should be a good run for Ballard in that lower bracket.
  18. Couldn't agree more!! They'll be more than in the running next year.
  19. By far this is the best post in this entire thread. Cooper players have won and lost with class which is what coach Sully preaches. In spite of the loss this was a great season, obviously the best ever for the newest school in NKY. I'm sure not many thought both the football team and the basketball teams would be this far this fast. With a better than avg. core coming back they just might be able to make a run next year as well. Been fun watching this bunch of over-achievers play hard. Best of luck to the 4 departing Srs 3 of which are football players as well.
  20. I could care less about the refs. It is what it is right or wrong but I will tell you that you can say all you want about Holmes playing one of their worst games. I strongly disagree. It had to do with what Cooper has done all season long and that is play tough defense! Give credit where credit is due which is what I've done by giving the Dawgs credit for winning the game on a great shot. Coopers offense has not been a juggernaut all year but you'd know that if you knew anything about this team. As for the great shot by Bolden over "the Cooper kid" who's name is Morgan, and the way he played defense on that play he played it the way he should have in my opinion. They are up by two and Bolden is at least 3-4 feet behind the arc. He played him the same way he played him all nite, staying in front of him and containing the drive and in fact coming up with 2 steals against him. "The Cooper kid" did an excellent job of guarding the best player in the region. Again kudos to to Holmes for finding a way to win but Cooper was :12 and a loose ball from winning this game and I believe there were not many outside of Union who thought this game would even be close. Best of luck to Holmes.
  21. Pouncy is the best official in the 9th. You don't ref 2 Boys and 1 Girls State Championships by being the worst ref in your region. This really has nothing to do with this thread but thought I would make that point. As for today's officials it is what it is but for Cooper to only shoot 7 free throws to Holmes 15 and the foul count to be 9-3 with 3 mins to play in the game makes one scratch their head. Cooper had its chances but it just didnt work out. It took a great shot by a great player to make a great shot so I tip my hat to the dogs and wish them luck. I will say that many things were exposed with the dogs today.
  22. I can deal with all the bull crap calls by the refs and the foul disparity but to not call this an intentional foul was ludacris!!! Everybody in the arena saw it but the ref standing right over the play. That was a joke in my opinion. Not much more Cooper could have done in this game. Hats off to Holmes but I'll take the Jags defense as it was outstanding today. Sullivan is COY in my opinion. Gets the most out of everything he's got. Congrats Jags on a great season. The future is bright and you are way ahead of schedule. Keep working.
  23. You're missing my point. By pressure I am stating that 90% of the people outside of Cooper believe they have no chance in this game. That has nothing to do with the players and staffs' mindset. Sully will have them ready to play with the expectation they win this game and if it is kept under 50pts like the majority of their games this season this team has a shot because one thing this team has proven that they WILL play is defense. If either Collins or McNeil goes for 20 and the other along with one more player, preferably a BIG, is in double figures, the Jags take this game. Just my opinion.
  24. Well there is Zero pressure on Cooper. Depends on which team shows up whether it will be a game or not. I will say this, if the team that played Holmes earlier in the year shows up this will be more than the game that most people are predicting (ie. a blowout). The game against St. Henry marked the first time all season that Cooper did not make a 3 point basket and was the lowest FT % on the year as well. I would like to think that McNeil, Collins, and Holland are not going to have another O'fer nite behind the arc again but anything is possible at the BOKC and with HHS's defense. I will agree with HJA1224 in that if Cooper for the 1st time all year plays inside out with it's BIGs it might pose a problem for them in terms of fouls and potential made 3s if 22, 31, and 12 are hitting. One small difference I saw in the NCC/HHS game in the 4th qtr is that NCC relied exclusively going down low to McDonald in the 4th qtr and I think Cooper can call on all 3 of it's BIGs for scoring. After the poorest performance of the year by the Jags I certainly don't expect another lackluster performance again but you just never know with this group. It for sure isn't coaching! Bolden will get "his" and will bring more "oooooo's" and "ah's" to everyone's delight because there is NO ONE in the 9th, and probably very few in the State, that can contain him. The one person that concerns me the most is Englemon. He is playing unreal and cleaning glass like a Windex Man. If Cooper doesn't box out it will be a very very long day for the Maroon and Gold. As I said, the pressure is on Holmes. Cooper is just a 5th year school that is not supposed be in this position and they aren't supposed to win. Kinda like what most said about the football team....but that's another thread lol. Good luck to both teams as it will be fun to see the former AAU teammates to go at it one last time. Whoever wins this one is the one I'll be pulling for to make it to Rupp.
  25. You are not missing anything. Yes alot if times the bigs do have their man pinned and the guards don't give them the ball, explainable. I think the coaches expect so much more out of the 6'8" guy. If he plays like he did in the districts Cooper is a team to be wrecked with. But it's not just Louis, this team has yet to play consistent ball all year but if they can win ugly then so be it. Saturday can go either way depending on what team shows up. Holmes will be ready no doubt but if the A-team of Cooper shows up it could make for an interesting game.
