  1. The one and only upset of the tourney. Ryle by 3 provided they minimize their turnovers and utilize Stuhr. They match up everywhere fairly evenly except at the PG position IMO.
  2. If Holmes plays defense they way they did last nite they will be a tough out. Would love to see them use their bigs more and/or get out an run CONSISTENTLY as their half court offense can be painful to watch at times. Good luck to all the teams and this will be a another good regional tourney.
  3. When Holmes would utilize their Bigs they are very tough to beat. Took them til the 2nd OT to finally use them, partly due to CCH Bigs fouling out, but throughout the game they seemed to not even look their way but kudos to them for crashing the boards hard and getting several put backs. Should be a good tourney.
  4. While I do see CCH winning the first game like most I would not be surprised to see Ryle pull off the upset so don't count Ryle out so fast. Outside of the PG position Ryle matches up pretty darn well and Sturh has been playing extremely well. I know CCH beat them previously but Ryle has to be one of the hottest teams peaking right now. Not saying they will win but I will not be surprised one bit if they do. I said they would take out top seed Boone in the district and they handled them with ease. Congrats to Coach McFarland on a great first season.
  5. Good for him. He'll do well wherever he plays.
  6. Coach Pouncy's KY Select Team will return several players to their 15U (Freshman) team. Most of this group has been together for several years and has placed nationally 3 of the last 5 years at the D1 and D2 levels. Hunter Meyer (Dixie) Dante' Hendrix (Cooper) Cameron Racke (SK) Cole Hegyi (Campbell Co.) Austin Neff (NCC) Jaiden Greene (Holmes) Timmy Cottrell (SK) Potential returnees: *JC Hawkins (SK) *Sean McNeil (Cooper)
  7. Ryle wins this because it's at home where they have been tough all year plus it's tough to go 3 for 3 against an opponent in one season.
  8. You obviously have not seen much of Colin other than the SK game. Colin does both and in fact a solid portion of his blocks come from chasing players from behind. It's all good, Kuntz is solid in his shot blocking and a great athlete so it's a matter of opinion.
  9. Congrats to all the players selected but I sure would have liked to have seen Cooper's Colin Hathorn on this list. He's the best shot blocker in NKY in my opinion. He'll continue to be a beast next year as well.
  10. I'm not surprised one bit. Having been around the young man and following him on the AAU circuit the last 3 summers I knew what many are just now experiencing. This is why I said a year ago the he would start varsity as a freshman in basketball when he arrived at CCH and many CCH faithful blasted me that no way would he start and I just laughed to myself and said they'll see what I'm talking about soon. Congrats to CVH and best of luck in whatever he chooses to pursue whether it be one or both sports. Talented.....
  11. 100% agree! Not to mention it took a long 3 by Holmes at the buzzer just to even get to the finals. 9th Region games traditionally are very very good especially when you get to the Final 4 and Championship games. ALL these players are winners in my book!
  12. The response was not intended to split hairs but was working off the info that was posted by TOG at the time of the thread. Congrats to Brossart for being 2nd....
  13. I'm sure there would be several other schools listed had they reported. One example would be Cooper would be be ranked 2nd defensively as they are only giving up 49pts/game. Congrats to all the other reporting NKY schools being ranked high.
  14. Like I've said. The ball has a strange way of bouncing come tourney time and anyone that thinks they will simply walk into a gym and get a "W" is, or could be, sadly mistaken. Conner makes one more rebound and it's an "L" for Holmes but kudos to them for "making a play" and finding a way to win. The 9th is a strange region and while there are favorites NO ONE is safe so I will not be surprised if anyone, and that includes Holmes, heads to Rupp.
  15. My mistake, I'm getting old. Makes even more since he needs to get locked ini.
  16. Honestly, knowing ihim personally I truly truly hope Newport is his final destination as he needs to get settled. He will have 2 years remaining to show he can clearly dominate and take over games and futher impress college coaches. You can't teach the size and speed he has but his Junior year will be the most critical for him, IMHO.
  17. To answer your question I think it is a testimate to both. I'm sure the game might be a little closer with CCH (as they never got to finish their game previously this year) but as for Dixie Heights, NCC already be them by 30 I beleive the first game of the year. I'm just making the point that the last couple of times I've seen Holmes play they have struggled vs. the zone and their defense has not been the same.
  18. It's final when he plays his first game in a Newport uniform. Like I said, I will wait to see how this one plays out this summer.
  19. Holmes is getting exposed big time IMO. After watching them vs. NCC one thing jumped out at me at the start of the 2nd qtr. Coach Dawn conceded that his team could not play man-to-man so he went to the good ol 2-3 and Holmes clearly showed they were no consistent threat from the outside and their zone offense is very very suspect as it was 1 and done when the defensive change came. Again, just my opinion but while I wasn't at the Conner game I would venture to say I bet Conner played 2-3 as well. Another clear factor is the last 2 times I have seen Holmes play, they are NOT playing hard-nosed defense as on several occaisions they give up long outlet passes for layups and have difficultly with teams that run motion offenses. Congrats to Conner for coming close to pulling off the upset. The 9th will belong to CCH or NCC and then everyone else will be hoping the seeding/draw plays out one of these two gets knocked out. NCC is big and long and has the guard play to sustain a run (but of course that is another thread).
  20. I also heard that Newport may not be the final destination either. Will love to see how this one plays out.
  21. Ryle beats Boone so I agree with your assessment here. Ryle will be tough at home.
  22. While there is definitely no such thing as a good loss as I am sure Cooper would have preferred to win the game, being the 2 seed may be an advantage. Boone will have a tough time with Ryle this go round. Ryle is a tough place to play and since the district is being held there I will say that Ryle will be a very very tough out. To date they are 5-4 at home I believe and while they did have an 8 point loss to Boone in the first go round their other home losses came to powers Scott County, CCH, and Dixie (the Dixie game went pretty much down to the wire). Addtionally they beat Cooper at home. Ryle has all the pieces and personally feel they are better than their record. Boone had big lead in the 2nd game gave it up and Ryle had their chances there as well. So, I will not be shocked one bit if Ryle pulls off the upset and beats the #1 seed BC. This will be the 4th installment of Cooper vs. Conner and I'm sure this one could go either way as well. Next Tuesday should be real interesting.
  23. A HS coach cannot coach ANY of his players nor can any of his assistants coach ANY of his players either.
  24. LOL! Aaron Morgan would be a pretty fast as a DL at 170lbs. I think it might need to be WR/DB. Just messing with ya. We appreciate you tracking all these players and good luck to all of them at their respective schools. Regardless of what level they are all pursuing dreams of playing at the next level and obtaining a degree and that is all that matters.
