I agree with the above posts. The group of juniors, soph and frosh have played a lot of ball together over the years and they have grown!! Vinson distributes the ball and gets the others great looks in which the birds have shooters to capitalize! They are long and lean and Vinson rebounds well!! If they have one issue it would be a real banger and post threat. I have also watched Shumate play for years great handle. Will need to look to score more. Can’t help but love Fields plays just like my youngest. Not above the rim, not an exceptional athlete but what a complimentary player. Shows up in the box and would be exceptional with the right teammates. Just gets the work done!!

Excellent post and very true! My kid happens to love contact and wants the hit that comes with keep your head on a swivel. He needs to work on his speed but that is not the current generation plus if you look at the recent retirement of a Panther now your time on the field might be limited. Those familiar with the program should definitely know it now. Kids are opting to play other sports.

This thread has jumped the shark! I am very happy for the boys having basketball success! However Listerman and Dale are two extremes. Exactly how many basketball alumni that has graduated in the last 5 years showed up on Saturday night! Letting Sam Vinson walk away from football because of some decisions hurt the football program for sure! There are kids walking the hallways that could help any of the three programs right now but boys have chose one or two to concentrate on it is what it is. Baseball, Soccer and now Basketball has cycled. The kids like BW and I know my Son and his class wants to bring the program back. I am not going to excuse the offense of late as it has been a Chinese fire drill. I have been quiet and will remain quiet here after. I am not having other bird programs thrown in this conversation. You and the horsemen and lynch mob know where to find me...

Sam is a special type of athlete! A lot of natural talent with a combo of intense work ethic! Floor general in the making and born leader. Just a great kid! The sky is the limit and very happy for him!

Now let’s not go there. The region doesn’t have a McNeil, CJ or Kunkle but it is not void of talent especially young talent. Some of those mentioned are frosh and will get better in time! Give me Sam Vinson and I can build around it. Great handles, rebounds, and just a throwback floor general. He also has worked on his jump shot!! Scott at Conner can play and others have very good bloodlines as well either from pops or brothers. Very good list!

I would state that 5 or more of the top 8 in the previous 4 classes were football kids. If you look at a very good JV squad this year almost entirely made of basketball only kids. Add that LUKE and Sam are juniors and do not play football.

I agree for the first time in forever the nucleus is basketball only. Moving forward he must get some of the multi skilled athletes to return as you need kids like Jacob, Hunter and Jack to add toughness to that skill set. Vinson is a D1 type player and still has another year. The Birds seem hungry and are playing well! Looking forward to BW, St Henry, NCC some more challenging schedule coming. IMO with the exception of CCH this is the weakest the 9th has been in a while. Vinson is a top 5 player in the 9th with a supporting cast! This could be the year of the bluebird!

. HHS/Conner game the birds did not play well period! Last week I think they played well. I have to credit CCH defense on that one. Buten is back and the blue boys were disciplined. I think the birds bring it this week. There defense makes the difference on all levels. Here is to hoping the offense continues with corrections and steps up! I know Cooper is always well coached, minus a few playmakers but each don’t want the blue boys in round one. I assure you both teams want another shot at Conner.

No moral victories but I am please to tag Cooper as the 4 seed next week.

Split on that argument but a win over the blue colonels is like Christmas early!!!

4-3 we are not going to self implode. No this group did not play like the Knoxville catholic game period. That saying you let a capable team believe and hung around and earned a big W. I hope the birds get to revisit that team. I suspect new wrinkles this week. I always say if you coach for the stands you will be sitting in them soon enough. I like BW and his staff, does the offense need to perform better no doubt. I think they are bringing a few boys along so they can play varsity snaps on defense to spell a few to help impact the offensive side of the ball with a few studs. It is all about being ready now for division and playoffs. I am not about to jump ship. It will right.

They dropped a few as well. With that said I sat next to #11 grandpa and that kid wasn’t a burner but golly did he make some move the chain possession catches. Does anybody have that young Man’s name. Grandpa had a reason to smile.

Very much so forgot those two Caleb is playing every down on Fridays and Will is contributing at well on both levels. A very good Soph class!

I refuse to get caught up in the coaching aspect. I will say that the OL should be challenged and next up concept as the play has been poor. You have DL and LB accepting their roles based on the fact that the guys on the field are getting it done; however every place else you can spot start a guy or two to send a message. No doubt Colin is going to win you games but the offense has been stagnant. Welch and Richter are contributing more than they should. Senior wideouts and rb’s better bring it and if you are a DB other than Brass you have got some work to do!

HHS played a 4-3 defense and were minus a few that were pressed into action on Friday. Vance Moore #50 DL, Henry King OLB # 92 and MLB Eli LaFrange #24 spearheaded the defense with multiple tackles, pressure and sacks. The OL gave Surrey QB #18 sometime to run North/South and his leap over a defender was athletic as it gets!! Clayton Lloyd #84 WR with a touchdown catch as well as Aidan Halpin #82 WR with a long TD reception. Blocking and tackling well on this day. The youngsters were looking good. Keep in Mind that Jake Welch and Griffin Richter are sophomores competing and contributing at the varsity level. Just thought it would be nice to mention a few that are playing behind a few of the senior studs.

I am no fan of the offense as Conner was loading the box. No TE and to be candid line has issues and can’t block even across the face at all levels. Congrats to Richter cutting back with field vision. QB has to eliminate negative yards; however no pass on a slant with backers coming all day is on the staff. DB has to find the ball when in the air doesn’t anybody yell pass any more?? I guess they would rather text it. Huddy has to play offense right now our best play is the kick return. Congrats to Hicks and #11 sat next to grandpa and he always came down with a big catch. HHS did not play well, for sure but Congrats to Conner for getting the win with grit. They elected to put points on the board and gave themselves a chance to win and capitalized.

the snaps have been a problem for a couple of weeks. That should have already been corrected.
