  1. QB position is different. You are not going to lead the kids if you come off the field and shrug shoulders. I don’t blame the kid he never even practiced with the older boys but the end of the day they had to turn to Surrey just to move the ball. Defense was light years ahead of the offense in JV. If you watched a game you knew that. The offense needs to move the chains not go 3 and out and have the defense on the field most of the game. I just want to see improvement. I agree JV played the entire season without a true RB last year. So you can’t judge JV ball but you can see kids that will be your players moving forward. Coach Sphire will assess this as well.
  2. Back to Benke I do think the best will rise to the top. He certainly has the size and body to be relevant. I know this, a group is already working hard on the playbook. With Sphire program you miss a day you miss a week. A few are gifted enough to catch up and has the skill set. Exciting times!
  3. Hey take another look at the post! I wasn’t talking about your Seniors; however just can’t wait for the coming years! Folks like you are going to make it fun!
  4. Benke is another big kid who might provide options. Again both Noon and Benke played basketball and better be front and center when the season ends. The current SK QB said during routes man I wish I had the Birds skill talent around me. Again I am on repeat need Spring ball and have a Qb know reads and have a grasp of an air offense. Noon is the athlete and can run needs to develop in passing game. Benke wasn’t JV ready last year. I see the potential but has to be a leader and he needs a lot growth in leadership. He certainly passes the look test!!
  5. LaFrange and Halpin are big kids. Neither have breakaway speed but great hands and will move the chains. 6’2 or 6’3. I see them both run over small corners. Both worked hard in the offseason with Siple.
  6. CCH has talent for sure! Eddie has done a fantastic job with that program but MM is not there and last years HHS Senior class was not strong and everybody knows it. What I am saying is the programs are going to be much closer in results. It may not happen next year but I am certain it will be much better product on the field. I am saying the Birds will return to the nest and take pride and ownership in the program
  7. That class lost Hergott and Buten for starters and Vinson opted for basketball only (certainly understand that). Compound that with COVID. A lot of kids in junior and sophomore class played. CCH had a 3 year varsity starting QB. HHS played and won JV game. Trust me the talent is close. I hope it happens next year it may not but if you think CCH is light years ahead you are going to be sadly mistaken.
  8. I am not much on predictions. Walk the talk. What I see is kids setting alarms at 5:30 getting up the school for early morning sessions and afternoon sessions running late. I am a little upset with a few missing time, missing opportunity. I will say this Oklahoma was said and Son came home with a twinkle in his eye. For those underclass parents keep spouting about the young guns and wait to spring pads. I know a few can’t wait to reset those expectations. No defense work yet but TE and h-back sets and drag routes oh my! I will say a very good week! Coach Sphire questions about the weight program dead accurate and needs to be addressed.
  9. Winner! Can’t agree more! Different sports different muscle groups. This is so needed for the entire sports program! I would have Jordan Nevels on speed dial...
  10. Large numbers. Great turnout playbook session in afternoon. I heard Dowling, Dill, Reed, and Leopold, was there as well. Quote from kid, Coach is older in great shape and enthusiastic with energy. Showers before class leads to discipline. WR/TE group will not leave until 50 reps with Jugs ball machine. Great to see bball group and baseball group on sidelines listening as well.
  11. That is a solid W! This is the time of year you want to be hot and play like tomorrow depends on it! Did Harris or Cody play?
  12. That certainly explains a lot. Hopefully will return soon.
  13. When you are hot from 3 tough to beat; interior defense and boards are going to hurt the Birds chances in the 9th! It looks like a 4 team race. Tourney time will be fun!
  14. Nobody does it better! Even with Kevin’s wonky vision! Kid’s enjoy him they still talk about his science experiments in adult hood!!
  15. Very interesting reading! So the program is winning and kids and parents unhappy? I know girls are a tad different and I have zero ties to the program; but Wow! Who would coach these days.
  16. Is Pangallo playing? Out, hurt, I haven’t seen him in a box?
  17. March 1st is approaching! Some boys worked their tales off this week. Coach will have plenty to evaluate.
  18. I think you are not far off. A few of those current Sophs will need to get in the weight room and add strength. I see Hodge moving to secondary at least at the varsity level. Dunn and Hodge have a nose for the ball and a nice mean streak. They both are small. Noon still has a lot of work in the passing game. Hosea is another one that if comes back from injury could be a big contributor. He runs hard downhill with a mission.
  19. I believe the schedule still has not been released. It was based on other teams release and a few predictions which I believe would be accurate. I have not heard a thing about scrimmages.
  20. Would not surprise me in the least. Before HHS he was the common man us against the world mentality. He could get you to play as there was no tomorrow.
  21. Hard not to remember Red Dog. True story I remember when Coach used to pick up David Hartke each day before after practice during the SK days in the 80’s. He always found away to see the best in a kid. I believe David went missing in Texas/Mexico in 2019. I think he was found. He truly got the best out of his boys! To this day I remember him whistling and stretching up on his toes!
  22. Congrats Cam! He will do well! Sure could he play on a bigger stage, you bet. He gets better each year.
  23. Classes will be able to jump classes when Spring seasons come back in play and with a real strength and conditioning coach on staff. I am hoping that happens soon!!
  24. That can happen but very rare. What might be a better analogy is that play on the field is based on skill set and not generation, name or funds thrown to the program.
  25. Still my all time favorite buzz. DCM was electric. My memory isn’t as good now but wasn’t that the game our lean defensive line took on Goliath?
