Highlands 64 Central 52

Per Ft. Thomas Highlands HS Athletics Twitter - :angrybird12:

The Bluebirds improve to 11-0, defeating the Yellow Jackets at The City of Middletown Holiday Classic.

Highlands resumes play tomorrow at Eastern HS, with time and team TBD.

Highlands is better than most ppl give them credit for, though they are slowly earning respect I feel. In my opinion they are as good as anyone not named Covington Catholic in the 9th.

At this point, it’s hard to argue your point!

I've felt that way for a while. But I'm not a 9th region guy so I kept quiet, plus it's really hard to rank teams early in the season. Imo, Highlands will be right there battling for the 9th in the end though. That said, it's still Cov Caths to lose though, theh are the most complete team in the state imo.

Very impressed with the Bluebirds this year. Vinson is a D1 talent who can get to the rim and cause foul issues..and can hit from deep. He has a lot of shooters around him. They are unselfish and play good D. No doubt number 2 in the 9th and could see them giving the Colonels problems.

As I said earlier, this is early season basketball and they really have not played a ton of quality opponents. Next couple of weeks will be a good measuring stick.

Agree..but they did beat Brossart who is rolling now. They also beat Holy Cross by 30 who is also playing well as well as Madison Central. Their schedule gets a lot tougher with the last 3 games really tough. They have Lloyd at home, then at St. Henry and Beechwood. If they go 3-0 in those 3 watchout Distict and Region!

Give this team and program some credit. You have been watching Highlands for awhile. This team is different. Kudos to Listerman and staff who have been taking their lumps for years to establish a culture.

They may not get out of the region this year, but this program is back to being relevant.

Not saying that Kevin and company do not have things going in the right direction. Culture is no different than it has been since he got there. Now he has kids that are basketball only and it is starting to show. Still want to see how they play versus Newport, NCC, Conner, St. Henry and some others in order to get a good measuring stick of where this team stands from a region standpoint.

Also glad to see that Kevin is trying to get the alumni involved which can prove to be huge in the future. Same cannot be said for the football program.

By culture I mean the basketball only kids, didn’t have these in the past. Have to have these guys in order to be successful. Strength and athleticism usually balances out by high school. Need that skill to be successful. I am very excited for the direction of this program.

I agree for the first time in forever the nucleus is basketball only. Moving forward he must get some of the multi skilled athletes to return as you need kids like Jacob, Hunter and Jack to add toughness to that skill set. Vinson is a D1 type player and still has another year. The Birds seem hungry and are playing well! Looking forward to BW, St Henry, NCC some more challenging schedule coming. IMO with the exception of CCH this is the weakest the 9th has been in a while. Vinson is a top 5 player in the 9th with a supporting cast! This could be the year of the bluebird!

Eastern has a good team and will be better opponent than Central.

This could be the year of the bluebird!

A CovCath vs Highlands Regional Final at the Bank would certainly make for an entertaining atmosphere!
