Congrats to Bo and his family! Always great to see someone who loves basketball get the opportunity to play in College.

The new head football coach at Boone County High School is Marty Steele, a former player and long-time assistant coach in the program.

 Steele, 49, was the team’s offensive line coach the last two seasons. He applied for the head coaching position following the resignation of Jeff Griffith, who had a 1-21 record in two seasons as head coach of the Rebels. 

Steele was also an assistant under former Boone County head coach Rick Thompson
for several seasons. Thompson retired in 2012 season and is now an assistant coach at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati.

I had not seen this kid, so I went out to the KHSAA TV replay - They have the last 2-3 minutes of halftime of this young man showing off his moves. Nice job!

Congrats to the entire HC girls program! So happy for Kes.... BTW - Did he show any excitement later? I mean watching that video and he immediately walked over to the Etown bench all calm, cool and collected long before anyone else on the team did.....

Could not agree with your thoughts any more! The thing that bothered me most about it is, during preseason meetings and such is he would talk about doing this and that, using the strength of the players, etc and then not once during the year would we see it. Drove me nuts for three straight years. Anyway, you will not find a better man out there - but with regards to his coaching - I wish my son could have played for Ruthsatz.

How many were they given last year? Does anyone know? I agree that there were more than 180 students in that section last year.

Yes they have a lot of talent in the pipeline so to speak. There may be some kids end up at Holy Cross or St Henry, but I doubt any go to Beechwood. There will also be others who simply decide to play intramural basketball, and then play other sports competitively. I know many of these 7th and 8th graders, and can say there are a number who are very talented in other sports as well. I think with the success and excitement that is going on at Cov Cath, the boys will still want to be a part of it, even if they do not play for Ruthsatz.

Oh yea, Krumps will play freshman up as he has done in the past. You may indeed not see AJ or Jack on possibly others, in any freshman games this year. IMO I think they will have a pretty good group of freshman coming in next year as well. I think Krumps will be happy, just like Ruthsatz.

Having had four sons play the A team schedules for Pius, I can attest to the too many games. IMO not that it was too hard on the boys physically. They had no issue and would want to play games every day. The issue I had was the number of games left no time to practice. You could see at times the effect of not having practices.

I did not know that Cov Cath allowed 8th graders to play freshman baseball. Have they changed something?

Blessed sacrament has an A team then playing in Cov Cath league, and a B team playing in St Agnes League? I did not know this, but suspect it must be the case since games are both on Saturday morning.... The Blessed Sacrament team at St Agnes is pretty solid for a B team.

The brackets a parent from a St Joes player showed me the other nite had the Pius Shumate team as the 2 seed, and the Pius A team the 4. This was emailed to them by their coach. Hopefully they corrected that. Again, if they wanted the tournament to be more competitive, they should have looked at the St Agnes league, as MQH and Blessed Sacrament would both be closer to the A teams talent wise. Neither of these schools I believe has an A team, and are both pretty solid.

That would explain how they ended up with the teams they have then. (Although not sure why they chose the leagues they did, I mean, where is the love for the St Agnes League!) I do not know enough about the Campbell County league - but there is a huge talent difference between the Holy Cross League, and the Cov Cath League. This also explains how the B team from Pius has a higher seed in this tourney than the A team.

Yes they did go to 8 teams it appears, but they are not four from each league as far as I know. For example the Pius B teams do not play in the same league as the Pius A team.

Yes it used to be 4 8th grade and 4 7th grade, the top two from each league. Now they are adding other 8th grade teams at least that did not play in the Catholic school league at Cov Cath. I am guessing maybe the same is true for 7th, but not sure. Really waters it down, and again, no disrespect intended but the B teams typically can not compete against the A teams.

When did the Diocesan Tourney change format? Not too many years ago it was only a four team tourney, with the first and second place finisher from the Cov Cath league, playing the first and second place finisher from the corresponding Campbell County League. Tuemler's Pius Team is Pius A team. Pius's Shumate team is one of two Pius 8th grade B teams. How were they selected to be in the Diocesan tourney. No disrespect intended, but St Joes Crescent and Pius A team can name their score against the B teams. (Aside from the fact that the other Pius B team -Slusher is better than the one in this tourney IMO.) So again, not sure how the Diocesan tourney selected their teams.

Truly a shame but I do not blame you one bit paNDA. I know that my entire family has enjoyed the countless pictures you have taken while my sons have played in various sporting events at Cov Cath. You have taken some really good ones, that we have then had made into calendars and photo albums by Shutterfly. I can also tell you that these pictures are treasured greatly, as I learned long ago that I am not a good photog, and, I find that I can not hold the dang camera still while watching and cheering during the sporting events (as evidenced by the videos where I only get half the action and the other half is the floor, ceiling, walls, etc) So, once again - Thanks for all you have provided my family, as well as countless other families as their kids have participated in high school athletics!

Yes I recall those days when they rented that place for their league games. That is what I was wondering if they were thinking about going back to.

Are they looking at playing in the public school league as does Pius, IHM and others? Got to play the better teams in the area to see where they truly are and to get better.
