I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this in prior posts but the Raider youth football league is under way in Union. This is the first year of the league and should be a boost in the arm that the Ryle Raiders needed to develop young football players. Yes, they definitely have a shot to compete with T and X this season...but with the new, young Raiders already aboard their ship they should continue to push forward!

So how does Highlands do on the dirt...I say it affects them, very little...Highlands big 42-7

As bad as you say Ryle played against Dixie, they still won by 10 (in a scrimmage). Right now Ryle is way ahead of SK in terms of talent and production on the field. Their passing game may not be the greatest...their defense may not be the best...but they are both good enough to beat SK. What's that tell you??

Ok...thought about it. How many JV starters for Ryle are playing Varsity this year? vice versa? JV is hardly indicative of how the Varsity game will pan out, neither is freshman. Ponder over this please...or did I use too many big words for you.

Ryle has played two games. They had no need to throw the ball against CovCath and they struggled mightily vs the overall #1 team in the state, according to a few polls. I expect Hempel to have just as many TD passes come seasons end, as he has had the past two years (18-20 range). He may rush and throw for 1,000. That will statistically be good enough to open up the I running game.

I don't mean to continuously refute your claim but Ryle rushed for 600 yards against Cov. I am not in any way comparing Ryle's one dimensional rushing attack vs. the Camels one dimensional passing attack. I actually have no idea if Covs passing defense is any good. But I think the Camels will score a bunch of points on almost any NKY school. Give them a dry field, they will be moderately successful. The problem is they havent played defense in a few years...

That seems awfully subjective don't you think? I actually feel CovCath will win but to say there is zero chance...Campbell throws the ball with no regard to time of possession. As they continue to throw the ball downfield, it increases their chances to score big plays. Cov could have some mental breakdowns as they did in the 2nd half vs. Ryle. Colonels 38 Camels 27

The better question is, how is SK ranked 8th? They beat Dixie, barely...and Dixie lost to NCC. By that rationale NCC would be ranked above SK in 6A. Not likely. I believe there is a rather large jump from 1,2,3 to 4,5 to 6,7,8,9,10. It is just a ranking though and I don't think 4-10 will be there consistently.

I was actually thinking about this the other day. NKY always has a great deal of talent but there are so many schools and many of them are state contenders in their respective classes. X and T dominates Louisville, Highlands dominates NKY. But if you take the remaining teams in NKY vs. Louisville, NKY gets the edge....however, because of the depth of the Big Two in Louisville, you could probably put together a B team that could legitimately beat NKY All-Stars!

I don' think so. Ryle may still be tending to wounds suffered in the Highlands game, but it will seem like NCC is hugging them and not tackling. Ryle is easily 14+ points better than NCC. You will not see the same team that just trounced a bad Madison Central team....

Sure. But throwing the ball increases the chance of scoring quickly. Thats why people throw the ball. If you are running the ball with your 2nd team and they cant stop it, then i'm sure its been a frustrating night...kind of like what cov cath experienced a week ago. When you have a large lead with a running clock, run the football. Its that simple. If you need to work on throwing the ball with your ones with a 40 point lead, why did you wait so long? With a three or four TD lead, thats different. If you're JV throws the ball against JV's, that can be considered ok. But then there is Saturday morning, right....

I agree about the six classes but disagree with the running clock. Achieving a running clock in a game is an awesome achievement for a hard weeks worth of practice. It also allows the starters to take a well deserved break and watch the reserves play some football. Many have been on both ends of the running clock and most would agree that it is best for the game to end as quickly as possible.

It should often be viewed as a statement of what you were able to accomplish during a football game. But if a running clock is achieved throwing the football with a 40 point lead, i believe it is distasteful and poor sportsmanlike. You will have some who argue that they have to work on their passing game. To me, this is not a valid argument. You don't work on your onside kicks with a large lead, do you?? How about a fake punt?? :idunno: Most times running clocks occur with the one defense making some type of play while the trailing team is acting desperate and/or defeated. You can also add a score or two by the two's. Injuries are a part of football and if you are foolish enough to leave the first team in during a blowout, late in the game, then you are susceptible to injuries. BTW, I am aware Boyle faked a punt on Highlands with a large lead in the state finals years ago...

I agree totally. The sideline issue is a joke. The pressbox is a joke. The field is a joke (compared to newer Artificial surfaces). I hear many Highlands faithful complaining as well, about one ticket booth and kids flying all around the playing area. A head football coach has every right to question the facility to a higher authority when there is a question of safety. Ryle's head coach may have used a particular tone which you felt threatening but the refs complied to his requests. Ryle received a sideline warning largely because there is no room on the sideline. I know thats the way you guys like it, make the opposing team uncomfortable...its time to class up the place. Great atmosphere though...lol.
