If Newport Central Catholic beats Ryle...

Featured Replies

is it near proof that Ryle is not ready for 6A prime time in 2010?

I do think Ryle is the favorite (maybe even clear favorite) to win NKY 6A but if they lose to a 2A team (even the best 2A team) does that equal almost no chance to beat X and T?

Yes, with the numbers Ryle has there should be no reason they lose to NCC.

Yes. If you hope to compete with T and X, you need to be able to beat, essentially, everybody else.

Almost everyone believes Ryle has no chance against T/X even if they enter the post season at 9-1, so does it matter if they go 8-2?

Raiders play Highlands twice, so it'd essentially be 7-3 if they lose to Newcath. :D

In all seriousness, this Ryle squad is likely the best 6A team in the state, not named St. X or Trinity and I think Ryle would actually beat X.

I think this is the same philosophy they had going into the Highlands game. If they cant beat Highlands then they certainly are not ready for T or X. Now, if they go and lose to NewCath, this actually might not be a bad thing, as they could be overlooked by alot of teams like X & T down the road. No offense to NewCath, but Ryle better get it done this week. Ryle is a very, very good team but I think NewCath could give them fits.

Sorta like last yr when Cincy St X destroyed X & T and thought Highlands would be a push over because in their mind those two teams were suppose to be the best in the State and then WHAM! Go Birds 20n10

I agree Sweep there are some tougj hardnosed kids on NCC like Kelly, Cain, Hightchew, Geisler to name a few and they could surprise the big boys. Ryle should handle their biznass though.

Yes. This is a great game to show that Ryle is more than its running game. NewCath has a good rush defense. Ryle will have to open the game up, and if they do, hopefully for them, it will give the coaching staff more confidence to stick with it. If they don't, or can't, I don't see how they beat X or T.

The key word is IF. I strongly believe it is not going to happen. I think this should be a post game thread IF the IF actually does happen.

Until SK plays Ryle!

I hear you Sweep and somewhat agree with your point about last year's Cincy X vs Highlands game. Then again, Highlands actually had as good and as many athletes as X did last last. Depth, which has always killed Highlands against the big schools, wasn't the usual factor. Only Collinsworth played both ways. I'm not sure that is the case for NCC vs Ryle. I haven't seen NCC play this year, but I'll be surprised if they have the depth needed to beat Ryle. NCC has some quality athletes (as Q11 mentioned); the question is: do they have enough to match up with Ryle for 4 quarters?

Ru, to answer your question: if Ryle can't beat NCC (no disrespect meant to NCC), I'd say that Ryle has almost zero chance of beating X or T unless something would dramatically change on Ryle's team (ie, if they attempt to beat NCC by just running the ball and lose, but later in the year develop/utilize a strong passing game to compliment their running game, then a loss to NCC might not definitely mean a loss to X or T). But I wouldn't like Ryle's chances of beating X or T if they can't beat NCC. I really think the game against NCC is put up or shut up time for the Raiders. They are coming off a bye week and should be rested and healed from the Highlands game. They've had two weeks to prepare for NCC and work on the weaknesses exposed in the Highlands game. If they are going to be a legit contender in 6A, they better show it this week.

Wow Walter, you honestly believe Ryle would be X??? I say no way after what I saw from Ryle on offense. Ryle absolutely would not be able to run the ball on X without dramatically improving their passing game.

As far as Cincy X and Highlands from last year go it is apples and oranges. Cincy X's coach is very stubborn and likes to work on things against what he sees as inferior teams. In principle I agree with the philosophy but I have seen him do it once with Highlands and lose and once with Trinity and get a real scare. X should have lined up last year and ran the ball down Highlands' throat but instead they kept throwing the ball into the eye of the storm.

I will make it simple, if Ryle doesn't win this week get out the round balls and start planning for 2011.

I don't think you've seen the totality of Ryle's offense yet. The passing game has definitely been slow to come around, but it will. They had to replace some very tall, quality receivers from last year and are still making that adjustment. I think they know they've got a first-rate rushing attack and are obviously relying heavily on that until the passing game gets on track. It would be an awful shame to waste the talents of a QB like Hempel by not letting him throw the ball downfield and I don't think the coaching staff will let that happen.

That being said, if they lose to NCC it would be a bad sign. I don't think NCC will hold Ryle under 40 points though.
