The attendance was down and as the games went on; I thought each student section got smaller. I don't see a change coming either. Its becoming a problem locally. People cant afford to go to games anymore due to the cost of entry. I don't know what is going to happen, but things will have to change soon. Take a local volleyball match; the only person there making good money is the official. The schools are not making enough to cover the cost of one official much less two.

I really love attending the sweet 16. It is something special. But just like this year, you watch a team and then hear where some of the kids are really from. Its all changing and sadly its not going back to what it used to be. Yes it would be great to see some of those small schools find their way to the state tournament, a school so small they don't even have a football team. A class system they might could have that chance. But not they way it is now. Personally I have always felt that private schools should have their own state tournament. But its not my decision. But to be honest, its not going to change.

How about the gentleman who bought all the pizza for the Cov Cath student section? I am guessing he bought 50 of them. And I was told he is the owner of Jack Ruby Steakhouse? And it was during the time that they were eating Clay County took the lead in second quarter.y

I was in Lexington in July last year and made sure to make the rounds to Cheapside, Skybar, and Redmons'. Redmons' was actually closed and I thought it can't be. During the state tournament week, I tend to stay away from those places and frequent more "family" oriented establishments....such as Hooters.

A buzzer beater (not) that hasn't been mentioned was Hoptown scoring at the buzzer over Daviess County I believe. Picture the next day showed the ball still in the player's hand and the light behind the board bright red. There have been so many great games trying to remember them all is difficult. But I will say as I read everyone's posts it did bring back some good memories.

Don't know all the details but Marshall County lead by 7 with less than 4 minutes to go in regulation. I heard it was a buzzer beater that got the victory. Hope someone can fill us in.

There seems to be a difference in recognition here. Some people are referring to the ref as the tall ref. He was on the baseline and he signaled block. You know how some people say refs give "payback" calls. That's what went thru my mind. He just overturned an out of bounds call to favor Henderson County, now he called the block to favor UHA. Then they huddled. Then we know what happened. On the last play, where the charge was called. The UHA player ran over the kid. The kid was on the block and just waited. He got ran over; no discussion. I am referring to the one at the end of regulation. The UHA player took his man and actually got by him. But the #31 kid for Henderson took the charge. This was a great game. A classic if we had it on tv. It will always be the one that got away or taken away; but each team missed free throws and turned the ball over without the help of the officials.

In that first meeting, Hopkinsville didnt pull out that 12 point lead until the fourth quarter. It was a close game thru 3.

If that is what the rule stats, then the refs did not get it correct, but when they brought the coaches together to explain what they called, the UHA coach should have questioned it then, if he knew the rule. I also agree that one call was not the deciding factor. The refs are from the first region.

Great basketball game. 23-20 UHA after one, UHA lead at half 39-37. Henderson ran out to a 59-51 lead after 3. The blarge call came with 1:52 to go in the game, UHA was leading 73-69. Henderson got the ball then scored 73-71. UHA failed to score, Henderson tied it up with 44 seconds left. With 5 seconds left it was still tied and then the charge was called on UHA. I would agree on this one. Overtime, game was tied at 81 UHA had the ball 32 seconds left and holding for last shot. Ran it down then was called for a 5 second call, just too much dribbling out front. Henderson didn't get a good shot and so it went into double overtime. I think Simmons scored all 8 points for Henderson in the first overtime. The second overtime was just as entertaining but the difference was Henderson hit a pair of 3's and UHA attempted 2 themselves with neither of them going in. From there Henderson County had to hit FT's in which they did. I wish I had the stats for everybody but it was an exciting game. UHA most improved team in the region, but the Simmons kid from Henderson just carried them in that first overtime. (on the blarge call, one official under the basket called block, while the other official called charge. They huddled then gave each player a foul and went with the possession arrow.)

I saw it happen during a district game. The team was out of timeouts and the coach wanted to take his seniors out but was out of timeouts. The official acted as if something was on the floor, blew his whistle, acted as if he picked up a coin and put it his in pocket and then waved them in. Good gesture.
