Covington Catholic is the better team and has more publicity for a reason.

Clay County was also there last year. They lost many of those kids, but McDaniel was still the top player from that team while Blake Smith and Wes Wolfe played a lot. Jake Allen led North Laurel to the Sweet 16 as a sophomore, so he has experience in Rupp. Trey Farmer is the final starter, and is the only one without experience playing in Rupp, but he was named MVP of the Regional Tournament.

Ironically enough, some of the games that show just how well they are capable of playing might be losses during stretches where the Tigers struggled (i.e., a road loss to Wayne County by 8, a loss to Dacula, GA (Atlanta area school; leading scorer is a kid named Kevon Tucker who is listed as the #8 overall player in the state of Georgia in the 2016 class), and a home loss to Lexington Catholic by 13 (before the Knights big skid that ended the year and before they went on to beat Lafayette in the Jock Sutherland Classic).

I'm not saying that Clay County will beat Covington Catholic, I'm just saying that Clay County might be a little better than some are expecting them to be.
