The State of College Basketball in Kentucky
stepscalled replied to Wireman's topic in College Basketball
Murray State ranked #5 in the nation's mid-major poll. Belmont represents the OVC also in the top 25 being ranked 24th. EKU is right outside the top 25 and still getting votes. The Racers might run into trouble at SEMO. They have plenty of talent but have not played to their expected level this year. OVC tourney should be a good one after watching Morehead State and Eastern the other night on TV. Murray State will be the favorite but anything can happen on a nuetral floor in Nashville. -

Well this the "controversial" board. If we are all going to be politically correct, there isn't a need for controversy? -
Henderson County 75 Webster County 54
stepscalled replied to Prep Junkie's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Which is something I am not a fan of. Henderson is going to win that district but what an advantage it is to be in a 3 team district. If you have 3 equal teams and they battle it out and split during the regular season, one of them still gets the automatic pass to the region. Whereas if there are 3 equal teams in the a 4 team district and a fourth team with upset capability, gotta earn your way to the region. As much that has been done over the last few years to make things better in high school sports; continuing to have 3 team districts isn't right. -

Calloway County 43 Murray 39
stepscalled replied to Randy Parker's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I watched both games. Calloway is now more about ball control and running the offense over and over. In the first meeting Calloway was on fire from the outside. In this game not as hot but can still fill it up. Passed up many looks just to reset the offense. That allowed for Murray to make a run a get it close. Murray appears to be cutting back on how many guys play now. They were platooning earlier in the season, now it looks like 8 and if needed a ninth man. I really don't know if Calloway can stop Hornbuckle in the middle but the officials have stopped him in both games. Last night a foul was called on him on a clean block. Should have been a jump ball since the ball never left the shooter's hand and Hornbuckle's hand was on top of the ball while blocking it. They both came down just like they went up. The official then said he got him with the body. Bad call. Hornbuckle claps 3 hard claps while I guess the official felt like he was "starring down" the Calloway player or said something inappropriate. Which if he wasn't behind him I could say maybe he did. But he was still behind him, and on the baseline. The other two officials had a front view of Hornbuckle, and I feel like if he did say something inappropriate they could have heard it or read his lips. They never reacted. Needless to say it was his second foul and his third foul. I just didn't agree with him getting the foul or the tech. Both teams are fun to watch, but I wonder if Calloway isn't a lot better if they are running and gunning. -

Carlisle County 65 Union County 58
stepscalled replied to CORNBREAD's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I went to the game where Union defeated Trigg in double overtime. First, Union should have won the game in regulation. Trigg didn't have a lot of energy in the game but took a 2 point lead with 2 seconds left. Second, Trigg should have won the game in regulation. LOL Union ran the baseline and got the foul called. Kid hit the two free throws to send it into overtime. I thought then, Union will struggle with Carlisle. Unless your blessed with a very good team with depth, 3 games in a week is tough. -

I agree they probably do not need to be in the top 20 but you did provide support for why they got some votes. If Mason is really the only talent they have, then they must be doing something right by still winning even though they are playing a not so challenging schedule. The second region is not very strong once you get past Henderson and Hopkinsville. But there is no guarantee they will meet in the finals. They may meet in the semi finals and Webster just might be in the championship game. -

UHA (4-16) but is on a 3 game winning streak takes on the Rockets. The game will be Saturday night at Livingston Central High School. Crittenden County defeated the hosts school last night and looks for an opportunity to get by the team that has dominated this regional in class A. UHA has played a very tough schedule and is getting better as the season goes on. Pace might determine the outcome here.

I heard the last 20 seconds of overtime. McCracken had a turnover and a missed shot and Marshall county missed 4 free throws. -
