McCracken beat Scott in 10 innings and by 4 the morning of prom. Not sure if that is "owning" them. Scott Co. lost three games this season (all to McCracken) and some predicted they wouldn't make it out of their region. All these girls have done is travel all over the state to face the toughest competition they could find. Both schools have amazing programs and fan bases, and return a talented core of underclassmen. Should be a healthy competition for years to come.

The kid was enrolled at a feeder middle school to Dunbar, but should have been at another school? If so, I can't see where any of this is a coaches fault.

IMHO, Tilghman will gain more students from the McCracken County consolidation than they will lose. Much of the population that attends Reidland are within the Paducah city limits anyway.

In baseball, you could face a team's ace on a day when your bats are cold in the first round of the districts, and your season is over. The best "teams" don't necessarily always win in a 1 and done scenario. However, it does give the schools with a smaller talent pool a chance to compete at a high level.

I think you feel like your swing is faster because, relative to the swings with the doughnut, it is. I used to like to use a doughnut with a pitcher I would have trouble catching up to. I'd try to time the start of my swing with the doughnut, then when I got in the box, I'd have more time to read the pitch before the swing. Don't know if any of that makes sense, but it seemed to work for me.

Making an allowance so that the softball team has a place to practice when it's raining or freezing in February is almost as absurd as clearing out the gym so a football team can practice when its 102 degrees in July.

That sounds about the way things have been working out. Does anyone know if this one is being aired anywhere?

If I'm not mistaken, the Shelby Valley coach got his first coaching job at Henry County.

I would say that in most districts, the local property and utility taxes are used for paying for facilities(building, upkeep, paying off loans). This money is also used for salaries, buses, fuel, etc. I think salaries may come from state not local? :idunno: Again, I would say in most cases, the local tax money never gets passed directly down to a school for funding of education, they stay at the district level. The money that goes directly to the funding of the day to day instruction comes from per pupil attendance. One could suspect that some districts have larger coffers of local tax, but we all know KERA 90 took care of that. I don't think there is any single right answer to the question posed. I think it comes down to community values and case by case scenario. There's way to many what ifs.

By not sending the child to school, the school does not receive tax dollars for that student. So in fact, it is costing the school.

I have seen schools bring kids up in 7th and 8th grade and dress them varsity. Then sit them on the bench. IMO, if a kid is good enough to start, or contribute significant minutes, then yes. If not, then no. Let them play to the level that they can contribute and become better. 2nd point. If their middle school season is over, and some end in December, then I see nothing wrong with any kid that wants to come and practice and get better.

I want to home school my child. I live within the school boundaries and pay school tax. Therefore, I feel entitled to the following. I would like the school district to foot the bill for any expenses of the homeschooling as well. Books, online courses, curriculum materials, computers, a full science lab, a full assortment of athletic supplies for P.E. However, I don't like to cook, so I'm going to send my child over to eat breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria.

First, the monies that the individual schools get come from the average daily attendance at that school. If a student does not go to that school, then the school does not receive that tax money. Second, if a student wants to participate in athletics, there are many recreational opportunities that do not involve high school participation, AAU, Parks and Rec, church leagues, etc. To me, this is like me going to school and asking to enroll my child for only 1 class. I don't want them there all day, I just want them to take computers b/c we don't have one at home.

I am not a fan of Calloway County, but I did get to see them play on streaming video. They have a player named Tyrrell Willis that did everything for them but drive the bus. He ran, caught, threw, tackled, and kicked. Their program lists him at 6'3" 235, junior. I saw quite a few games this year in different classes and he was one of the most impressive players. I hope he lands on someones list to get some post season recognition.

Don't know how surprised anyone could be that owen won this one on their home floor.

I say great for Simon Kenton. It shows the parity in 6A football. You get a large base of students to field a team from, and since most are located in the golden triangle, there is plenty of competition and development to be had. There is not as much difference in 1 and 4 seeds in 6A as there is between 1 and 2 seeds in other classes.

Heath's mascot is the Pirates. Most of McCracken County is wet, East of the Clark's River is dry, don't know about West Paducah. Heath did win a state title in Class A, 1986. When Ft. Campbell and Heath were both in Class A they had some GREAT games during the 80's. It is too bad that Mayfield was "playing up" in AA at the time as that would have made things even more interesting. Ft. Campbell moved up to AA in the late 80's into district with Mayfield. Don't know if the series continued with Heath after the move.

No surprise at all in either case for the Louisville or No Ky districts to win out against other districts. These areas have larger, localized populations that make it easier to have good developmental programs and tougher competition to make them get better. I would think this would be even MORE of a reason for a four team system. Maybe we should just let in 1 team from each region so that we can all get to playing basketball sooner.

Calloway County vs. Lone Oak was entertaining. Lone Oak led the entire game and Calloway came back to tie in the 4th. Had the ball inside the 20 with less than 2 minutes left. Lone Oak intercepted in the end zone then drove the field for a game winning fg.

From the vibe in this thread there will be plenty of hotly contested games in this region during the season. Should make for some exciting games and a pressure tested regional champ come March. All good things for the teams of the 8th.

Lot's of tradition here. There have been a couple of years in the "internet" age when Owen didn't have a winning season or didn't make the Regional tournament. They have both never happened in the same year. They just seem to always have a new group ready to step in and take over. I would expect the same to happen this year.

1st point. Owen made the Regional tournament last year and lost to the eventual state semi-finalist by 3 points. They lost 3 seniors(?) but return just about all of their scoring.(?) If they were to make it to the tournament again, I wouldn't say they'd be the worst team there. 2nd point. Any team that is well coached and disciplined can't be counted out in any sport. Owen is definitely both of these. And yes, Owen is back in class A, but you can only play 5 at a time. The "little" guys of the 31st district have shown to be scrappers and hard "outs" the last two years and I'd expect nothing different this year.
