December 11, 201114 yr Without having read the previous pages...I have two questions. One. Why were any starters in the game at that point? Two. Who thought it would be a good idea to have players available to press afterwards? Gates should be gone for a long time....loooonnngggg time. Straight thug. Throw a sucker punch then back away. Nice. Fitting for a true enigma. #13 for UC should be sent away for some time to. Not sure who #14 for UC was but he was out of control. Tu Holloway should be gone for a while as well...as well as a couple of other players for XU. The kid for XU that pushed Gunn should sit for a while as well. Both coaches should be suspended as well. Does anyone think Cronin physically pulled jerseys off kids? Game needs a cease fire for a few years.
December 11, 201114 yr Just keep in mind that even "being prepared" or "aware of your surroundings" doesn't eliminate any possibility of being hit. There were 5-6 UC players in very close proxmity to him - hard to account for or prepare yourself for every one of their actions. Especially in an environment where you really don't expect it to turn into a good old-fashioned street brawl. Oh no doubt. The way he was hit and the way he went down he clearly was not expecting to get hit like that. And he shouldn't have been expecting that.

Don't know if I believe that Cronin physically pulled off the jerseys but I wouldn't be surprised if he did.
December 11, 201114 yr Keep the game though. Surely this won't repeat itself. If it does repeat itself it won't be on the court. It'll be at a party. Surely these fellas cross paths in the college scene in Cincy.

Surely these fellas cross paths in the college scene in Cincy. This is the 4th year in a row there has been an altercation of some sort. 4 years ago Freese headbutted Gates. 3 years ago Lance Stephenson and Holloway/Lyons nearly came to blows and multiple technicals were issued. Last year Holloway punched Ibrahima Thomas, but the officials didn't catch it and Thomas calmly walked away. This has been brewing for a long time. Today it erupted...
December 11, 201114 yr I bash him all the time, but major respect for Cronin and the way he came across in the presser. He'll earn major respect IF he follows through on his threats, and doesn't succumb to the pressure to deliver a "slap on the wrist" to his two/three major offenders. His talk was tough, but the proof will be in his action the next few days.
December 11, 201114 yr The verbal, BGP brawls? Or the normal ones? Ones like we saw on TV today. Scary stuff. The guys weren't generally 6-8, though.
December 11, 201114 yr No. Not even a consideration. Sounds like it needs to be before it truly becomes a Crosstown Shootout.

Dang...wasn't aware of all of that. I hate to see any rivalry ended. Especially over something like today's stupidity. What is your opinion, GT?
December 11, 201114 yr Official word is Gates, Mbodj and Wells were the players ejected for fighting. Those three will at minimum be out for the next game...
December 11, 201114 yr Dang...wasn't aware of all of that. I hate to see any rivalry ended. Especially over something like today's stupidity. What is your opinion, GT? I'm torn. Love the game and all it means to the city. Hate to see what it has become recently though, and wonder if it at least needs to be put on hold for a few years to hopefully cool things down. That said, three guys who have been heavily involved in every incident are gone after this season regardless. Both schools are in a tough spot...
December 11, 201114 yr You can't kick him off if you don't kick off the big kid #13. If Gates didn't punch Kenny to the floor the big kid (#13) wouldn't have had a chance to stomp on Kenny. I'd say for everything that Mick has had to put up with from Gates, I'd be surprised if he let him stay on the team. I know I'd cut ties.

Do you cancel the game or do you try to raise the image of both schools from the ashes next year? Maybe you play the game next year with the focus being on doing it the right way, have a true hard fought contest without the ugliness and try to regain some dignity.

Maybe you play the game next year with the focus being on doing it the right way, have a true hard fought contest without the ugliness and try to regain some dignity. In a perfect world you go with the latter. Still a huge risk at this point if you go that route and something happens again. Not like today was an isolated incident, just got more ugly this time...
