February 7, 201115 yr Mrs. Aguilera, your daughter is very talented. She screwed up. It happens. Sadly for her it happened on the biggest stage. Plus, she's a professional and it's not like there was a defense set up to stop her from singing a song we've all known for the majority of our lives. She wasn't reciting the Preamble to the Constitution. Grade school stuff here. With that said I'm sure she'll survive this. P.S. See if you can get her to look a little better. She used to be a whole lot prettier. Well what I said may have come off a little abrupt but the point is everyone makes mistakes whether it be in your profession, at school, etc. This most likely wasn't the first mistake and will not be the last. Also I'm sure many singers, or other entertainers, make plenty of mistakes but it goes unnoticed to the people who don't know what to look for. It was just bad timing in a song everyone knew and it just slipped. She still looks pretty good if you ask me!

February 7, 201115 yr Several years ago, a girl at our school sang the national anthem at about 75% of our basketball games. She sang beautifully! However, one night, near the end of the season...she forgot the words midway through. I felt really, really bad for her. Another example: After Sept, 11th, 2001, we put together a memorial/remembrance assembly at our school. Of course, we chose our best singer to sing the anthem. She, too, had sang it many, many times at basketball games. She, too, messed up the words. Actually, she sang one verse twice and one not at all. I felt bad for her, too. Our anthem is a bear to sing. Most singers that do our anthem now actually bring a copy of the lyrics with them...not because they don't know them, but in case they forget them.

February 8, 201115 yr She basically messed up one line and one word in an earlier line. I can deal with the mess up. What I don't like is the way some super-star singers feel they have to show off their personal singing styles by jazzing up the national anthem. The moment should be about America, not that particular singer. Just sing it straight. That is a big beef of mine. People use it as an opportunity to show off and I find that inappropriate. I don't dislike it as much as my father (a retired choir director of 50+ years), but it annoys me.
February 8, 201115 yr The sad fact is that there were probably a lot of people that were not sure if SHE screwed up the words or THEY couldn't remember them correctly. I would like to be shocked by this, but the sad thing is that your are right.

February 8, 201115 yr I have to give her credit. Even a singer can get caught up in the moment and not concentrate on the lyrics. At least it wasn't a repeat of Rosanne Barr.
February 8, 201115 yr Maybe she had money on the under 1:54 set at Bodog. She actually lasted 1:53.7 but they paid both sides due to the missing line. Still not the worst of all time (Roseanne) or Carl Lewis' attempt to "make it up". Has anyone ever listened to the Marvin Gaye NBA rendition? He actually had his own beat for the anthem and it's pretty darn good.
February 8, 201115 yr I always find that anthems done the traditional way, as opposed to singing it to the artist's style or sound, always sounds better and is a safer route. Wasn't a huge fan of this anthem, regardless of if she messed up the words a bit.
February 8, 201115 yr For those that criticize her, it is only a small blemish. I would like to see some of you try what she does on a regular basis and lets see how many times you mess up... It's not hard to remember the words to a song, especially the national anthem. She's supposed to be a "professional" singer... And I'm sure many of us here on BGP have harder jobs than singing a simple song. And we have to do much more difficult things than remember the words to the national anthem, on a regular basis.
