I'd still say those questions were never refuted, why they couldn't beat some of those teams by larger margins is still questionable. Perhaps it was the styles of play of those teams as each team has it's weakness.

 

It's a long season and no team is able to bring their A+ game every single week. Ryle - like many other teams - dealt with a lot of injuries and had to make numerous personnel adjustments and reassignments. They also had to find their identity in the passing game, as it changed from being a predominantly downfield passing game last year to a short, West-coast type passing game this year. There were some games in mid-season that they won by closer margins than I'm sure they would have liked, but that's the sign of a good team when you can have occasional "off" weeks and play well below your capabilities and still come away with wins. At the end of the day, Ryle proved themselves a very, very good football team.

Ryle just couldn't get anything going against Trinity's defense. I don't think there was anything/anyone to blame for Ryle, Trinity was just very fast and well disciplined, like nearly always.

Ryle definitely missed on some scoring chances but much credit goes out the young and stout T defense.

 

And pretty much the same here. No shame either way, NKY has quickly spread out and changed over the years, as a whole I'd say schools up north are heading in the right direction but unfortunately Trinity and the other Louisville schools have always been headed in that direction it seems and sometimes it take a while to catch up.

I agree. Ryle had under 100 total yards offense until well into the 4th quarter. They were never really able to get into a rythym due to T's agressive defense. Ryle is obviously a run-first team and the running game just wasn't there for them tonight. It happens when you come up against teams like Trinity.

I do agree that Ryle changed their offensive style but I'm not so sure that they had a great deal of success with west coast per se. Perhaps in the sense that they had success throwing to receivers that weren't typically passing options, but still a majority of their success in the passing game seemed to be big play passes as opposed short yardage spread out the D and work the open areas type of plays. I think a good running game and a true west coast type passing offense is what it takes to beat the Louisville schools if it's a KY team that's looking to do it.

 

IMHO next year will be key for Ryle as they had a great senior QB and a great junior RB which was opposite of SK last year which produced the same results, losing to a private school power house in the semi finals that went on to win state(probably a safe assumption for Trinity). Next year will show us all who complimented the other more. In a way if Ryle can get a game against T or X next year it could be helpful for the NKY 6A schools to continue their future game planning and see where focus needs to go. I would say increasing speed never hurts though, T and Highlands always seem to be talked up about their over all team speed(rightfully so)and how it's a difference maker, and well I'd say those two schools records speak for themselves.

Agreed, thats why I think NKY teams as a whole need to put forth more emphasis on their feeder programs and even more so their frosh and jv in 6A. It seems like there has been a lot of focus placed on the feeder programs but once the kids reach the HS level if they're not starting or a "contributor" then they get lost in the shuffle so to speak. When you listen, read and follow the Trinity and Highlands programs they don't talk about 1, 2 or 3 players that will be coming in the next year but rather the class as a whole that will be contributing the following year, and some followers for those programs even recognize when it will be a down year due to that. It seems like NKY is catching on as a whole but still not getting over the "filling wholes" as opposed to excited about the "new class". To an extent that's philosophy and coaching but I think it's a necessary change that NKY schools will have to makes. I've heard many parent talk about the Highlands program that had kids go thru their and they never talked about how "Smith" was going to win the blue birds another championship as much as "They've got that class coming up with Smith, Black, Ryan, Brown etc etc etc, oh and their line was pretty good too,....... and they just won the freshmen championship and jv's undefeated".... I think this is where NKY needs to LEARN and focus in the up coming years.

Ryle and Trinity were evenly matched in a lot of areas, but T's overall team speed was the difference. They were also much bigger and more physical up front than the Raiders. James Quick is an absolute stud and Hatcher took over late in the game. That kid is HUGE for only being a soph. Was talking to CentreRocks before the game and he said Trinity only plays 5 seniors. WOW! I felt like this came back to hurt the Rocks at times last night, however, because of pentalties and mental mistakes that a veteran team like Ryle didn't make.

 

Give Ryle's defense a lot of props. T came out and scored on their first play of the game but the Raiders stood tough and didn't allow T to score again until late in the third quarter. To be fair, the Rocks did leave some points out there though by not attempting any field goals deep in Ryle's territory. Was there any reason for this? Does T not have a good kicker?

 

Regardless, Ryle did nky proud and stood toe to toe with the best team in the state for 3 1/2 quarters. This wasn't the blow out that a lot of you folks were predicting. Congrats to both teams on a well played game and good luck to T next week in the state title game.

Arrogance is ugly. Even in victory, you make excuses. Trinity played plenty good, if not great tonight. You're spoiled and need to step back and appreciate what you have.

 

I didnt have a favorite tonight but after looking at some stats and seeing Trinity has 20 some state championships I still say its easy to when when you can have your pick of top players in a large region. Its not only Trinity but Cincinnati St X Highlands, Etc. It's simple been going on for 70 years Ive been around It's easy to win when you can recruit

Just looking at Trinity's scores against Louisville teams, Ryle was clearly the best team in Kentucky that Trinity played in the season., I left out Bowling Green because Wright did not play and one can not use the score to compare BG and Ryle. Ryle 's defense played very well and upset any Trinity's rythym. Ryle has one good program.

My brother saw Trinity play about six games this year and he said that Ryle was clearly the best team in 6A that Trinity played this yer.

There was more defense than I anticipated. Take away the late TD by each team and the score is 21-3. Ryle sacked T's QB on sprint outs or roll outs quite a few times. It would have behooved him to throw the ball away and not make a bad play worse. I have to give credit to T's defensive line for hanging in there with Ryle's OL which has some very nice and, as I understand it, intelligent players. I agree with CentreRock that Ryle is the best 6A NKY team T has faced in a long time. It was a very tough game on the road against probably the no. 2 overall team in the state. The last 2 games (X and Ryle) the score at half has been 7-7 and 7-3 Trinity. It makes you nervous.

Congrats to Ryle. You have a team to be proud of. As for my ROCKS, you took care of business. On to Bowling Green.
