Yep. Highlands, Boyle, Trinity, Mayfield, New Cath etc. all keep on winning.

If these two teams played in the regular season next year, it would be flat ugly. T controlled a senior laden Ryle team last night with a team made up of predominantly underclassman. People talk about the strength of "programs", and T has a very strong program. I believe Ryle had a very good team this year that had lots of senior leadership, however, the life of a good team is one season. Having a good team with a good class of seniors every 3-5 years is quite different than having a good program imo. I believe that the likes of T, HHS, St. X will have good teams again next season because they have that dominant program unlike Ryle. Ryle falls back to a very average team next year and will need another good class to cycle through before they have another season like this years. The caliber of players such as Hempel and Elliot do not come along every year and next season Elliot will be alone on an island. The O line is where it all starts and I believe Elliot will find it tough sledding next season.

Where did the 74 people who picked Ryle to win go? I'm just sayin...

T was the best team in the trenches last night - that was the biggest difference in the ball game. Ryle played with great tenacity and heart but it was not enough. T made some coaching adjustments for the game and Ryle could not match that with a winning strategy. The better team won. Hats off to T and I have no doubt they will win state next week. Ryle continues to work to build an excellent program and I believe they were the 2nd best team in KY this year. You will see the impact of the Union Raiders in 3-4 years when Ryle will have a very good team every year. The Raiders are committed to winning, not whining like people from some other area schools. Ryle is not a dominant program obviously but they are a good program on the rise. You infer that Ryle is not a good program and I disagree with that as would the coaches from Highlands and T. The Roman Empire was not built in a day.

Actually rotating the fists around each other is an illegal procedure signal; there is no specifc signal for false start, unless they move one hand out from the chest which is illegal motion, or both hands out from the chest, which is illegal shift.

 

There is no such foul as "Illegal Procedure" in the rule book. There hasn't been for several years. It's either a false start or an illegal formation. Both fouls have the same signal.

Please allow me to clarify. What I am trying to say is that a good season every 3-4-5 years does not a program make. I am not saying anything negative regarding Ryle's coaches, fans, facilities, etc.........I am just saying that putting Ryle in a discussion with the likes of a HHS, T, or St. X is apples and jarts. Ryle had a very good team in 2006, then dipped until this year. I certainly don't see anything in the pipeline that will define Ryle as a sustained, dominant program going forward. I have said it before and I truly believe it. There will not be a 6A champion from NKY ever. It's the nature of the beast and it is what it is. I do admire Ryle's faith and I do hope they keep believing. I just see them continuing on their current path of the peaks and valleys. Very difficult to build a sustained, dominant program without tuition paying students. Meanwhile, the likes of HHS, T, St. X, will just reload and be right back to a state title game year after, that's the difference. It will be another 3-4-5 years, or perhaps longer before Ryle has another season that equals the success of this years team.

I think Ryle has a good program. Will they ever win a big school football championship? Not as long as St. X and Trinity are around.. This was "Ryle's Year". Very special. Lots of good athletes on both sides of the ball. They will be missed. Wonder how many of these seniors had multiple varsity letters. I would venture to say most of them. Good luck to all of these young men as they move on to the next stage in their life.

No one has put Ryle on the same level as T/X/H, only stated that Ryle has a goal of reaching that level and has taken steps to move towards that goal (scheduling, middle school program). Pretty nice goal IMO. Will they ever reach it? Who knows. Probably not. But it is the right goal to set. Ryle indeed does have a nice program, regardless if you want to give them credit or not. After HHS, they have the best overall program in NKY.

The Union Raiders started this year with 6 and 7 graders and were a very disciplined, successful and tough group. Excellent little team that played against 7 and 8 graders and won most every game. A committed and successful feeder program is the way that a public school elevates themselves to annual excellence. I guarantee you that the feeder program is a huge key to success at a public school like Highlands. Ryle will become a force to be reckoned with each year over time. I compliment the Ryle coaches who are taking the steps to improve instead of whining that there will not be a 6A champion from NKY ever.

The Union Raiders started this year with 6 and 7 graders and were a very disciplined, successful and tough group. Excellent little team that played against 7 and 8 graders and won most every game. I don't think there will be. There is to much of an advantage for the Big Two..I don't think it is whinning I believe it is just reality..If Boone Co. would stop building high schools than there might be a slight chance. It's a numbers game. I'm not saying it's all numbers but it has a lot to do with it..

SS, I truly hope you are correct and that the feeder program is the key to sustained excellence in Union. While I believe a good feeder program is important, it's not the only ingredient to building an annual (year in and year out) winning program, it's only one component. It is my belief that the HHS, T, X programs have other components that Ryle simply cannot equal. I do admire the leadership in Union for "modeling" their program after some of these powerhouses. It certainly cannot hurt. Whether the feeder program will be the answer...........only time will tell. Ironically, the BCPWFL used to be set up by school district, and it got changed because one area was winning all the time and the parents didn't think it was fair.
