The Passing Game

In 2a last year if Murray had any passing abilities they would have beat the state champions Fort Cambell...They almost beat them running it down their throats!!!! I feel that 2a Green county would be a much better team every year if they would adapt a passing attack. Thats only in 2a, you need a balance each week. Different teams each week require more of one than the other. If you are balanced at both you can pull deep playoff runs each year by beating your opponent with what is needed after half-time. If you have it in your arsenol it is very helpful to make the adjustments necessary!!!

Teams with great talent can run and beat anybody. Teams that can't match that talent except at maybe 2 or 3 positions can pass and still compete. It doesn't work the other way around...

Great post.

Unfortunately, while a few good athletes can help you compete with a passing game (and no running game), they don't make you a team that can "beat anybody". At the end of the day, if you can't at least run well enough to be considered "respectable" in the gound game, many games can still be won solely through the air - but hardly ever can you win championships.

Estill County will argue this with you. Folks just limit their systems to Wing T or I based systems when they think run first. We may see the occasional Wishbone. If you lack the talent, the Doublewing is a much better system to implement than a spread passing game, IMO.

Let's not kid ourselves- state champs have talent regardless of system. The spread is the in system right now just like the Wing T was ten years ago. These things go in cycles, IMO.
