No I don't believe Hemp benches above 340 or runs around a 4.6. I much rather be hit by Hemp. Most of Elliotts hits were on D at end. He almost knocked Streeter back 5 yards at the end of the game on a block.

 

Streeter doesn't weigh 150 lbs soaking wet with pads on . Is that really something to brag about ?

Just out of curiosity, when was the last time that HHS was down at halftime at their own stadium? I couldn't imagine it's happened very often in the past decade (or longer probably). Sure didn't seem to bother them. They responded well in the second half. A couple of us were thinking it had to be quite unusual for them to look at the scoreboard and be behind at half, though.

Surprised more people aren't talking about Streeter. From what I read, he played very well last night and did a great job running the ball.

 

Sreeter was running real hard last night. One thing besides his speed that impresses me , is the fact that when someone wraps him up , he keeps those legs churning and is very hard to bring down. He's worth his weight in gold to Highlands. (What's gold going for these days ?)

 

Speaking of gold , Daniel Gold had a nice TD catch right before half time. They should really try to get him the ball more often.

I think the last time HHS was down at the half at home was the regular-season game against CovCath in 2006... the game that CCH won on a last-second TD pass. I'm pretty sure HHS was down at half for that game, but not 100% sure. Highlands also trailed Bryan Station late in the game during a home playoff game in 2008, although the 'Birds pulled out the win in the last minute of the game.

Weiney did a great job with the defensive adjustments in the second half..It looked like he brought the lb's up closer to the line to stop Ryle's running game..

It sounds like Elliot and Hempel had some two way duty last night. RB, I can see somewhat. QB? at a 6A school? Man thats a problem

Hempel never played a down on defense last night - don't see it happening all year. Elliot saw limited defensive downs.

Streeter is no doubt an exceptional athlete and you are correct not much talk about him on him as of yet. He will earn his respect with some more repeat performances of last nite. The Birds are loaded at RB so when a kid gets his opportunity he should jump on it and Streeter did that last nite. Great job by Jordan and hopefully this was his coming out party . Go Birds 20n10

Okay in an early post hosierbirdfan stated some Beechwood scouts were talking trash and that was not so. I sat with several Highlands fans and former player's and we were complimenting Highlands Football program along with their youth progarm. We did not trash mouth Highlands players that is wrong to have stated that. Nice try in firing up people. JD

Ryle needs to find a replacement for '09 Raider Trent Fugate to take more pressure off the dynamic duo. Also, a tight end that can catch in a rough crowd. Perhaps Ryan Smith?

 

Regarding stadium safety, I'm curious whether the Bluebirds stadium has had a safety audit in recent years? The top back rail is certainly less than 42" above the seats that are just below them (that everyone stands on.) One of these days some tall, overly excited (or impaired) and top-heavy guy is going to fall over the back. Remember Matt James? I think these should be retrofitted (and by the way I do not sell bleachers.)

Congrats to the Birds. Great fan support. Great night for football. Lots of big hits both ways. Coaching was the difference. It looked to me like both teams had equal speed and toughness - Ryle just needs to do a better job of coaching adjustments. Dale is a great coach, let's face it. Bryson continues to improve. I disagree with posters that say this was the game that Ryle was gonna win if they were gonna win. I see major improvements on the O-line and they will continue to get better. I believe Ryle will also pass much better in game 2. Plus, playing at home. Both teams will have great years. Good job by all of the young men who represented their schools well.
