July 20, 201016 yr Author Same here. I was old enough to be kicked in the gut by the Apollo 1 tragedy, and elated by the success of Apollo 11 a couple of years alter. The space program of the 1960s was something that the biggest part of the country got behind. I remember the fire in Apollo 1 well.

July 21, 201016 yr I was on vacation in Alabama on the Gulf Shores near Dauphin Island with my older cousin and Aunt. I remember watching the landing on a black and white TV set. Funny thing is today is our oldest son's birthday and also my cousin's birthday.
July 21, 201016 yr One of those events that, if you're old enough, you will probably always remember where you were when it happened. Perhaps there have been events that were more important from a global perspective, but the "Big 3" that I'll always remember (where I was and what I was doing) are the JFK assassination, the first moon landing, and 9/11.

July 21, 201016 yr 13 years old. Watched it on a black & white Philco TV with legs. As I remember it was rather hot that day and we only had fans back then. Heck, we didn't get an air conditioner or color TV until I was out of high school.
