July 21, 201016 yr I was 22 and on a camping vacation on Cape Cod . Watched it on a BW TV on the back of a station wagon the TV was plugged into an electric outlet into a restroom with an extension cord at the campground we were staying at . There were probably 30 people clustered around that TV that night

July 22, 201016 yr I was 15 and watched it at home with my family. For some reason I thought it was in the early morning hours, around 1 or 2 AM. Seems like we sit up late that night to watch it. I remember listening to the landing earlier in the afternoon. Armstrong had to take manuel control of the craft to guide it over some boulders and Cronkite later reported that the astronaut's heart rate was very fast, according to NASA officials, during that short time span.

Mine would have been too, with 25 seconds of fuel remaining at touchdown.

They landed in the afternoon. Armstrong didn't actually step out of the LEM until much later. They had to go through the post landing checklists to verify the integrity of the craft, before venturing out. It's not like they landed popped the hatch, jumped out, and looked for the nearest bathroom. Besides, I definitely remember it being dark out and there was no way Dad was going to let us stop picking cucumbers before night fall, regardless of the historical ramifications of the event. You let a pinky sized pickle stay on the vine until morning, it's the size of your middle finger and you just lost money. Then we had to make sure the pickles were sorted by size and wetted down before we stopped for supper. That was usually completed between 9 and 9:30 PM. I hated the summer of 69.

July 23, 201016 yr Author Everyone saying they watched on a black and white tv reminded me of something my father said to answer my question. Me: "Dad, when are we going to get a color tv?" Dad:"Color tv? You have one. Black and white are colors aren't they? Some of you now might know where I get my sense of humor from.
