BBA - No Accountability

What I'm struggling with is what the ref that is in the frame doing? Looked like he just wanted to get out of there.

Is there something he should have been doing?

Which is the point...if you do not know the job of each official and where they are supposed to be looking, then you do not have a reason to question it. As explained before on here, it was the trail officials call. He happened to have the worst look at it and if the other two officals are not 100% he is wrong they are not going to overrule it. Shot was released with around .03seconds on clock. Thats a snap of a finger. Its a coin flip IMO on the call. Instant replay would have been wonderful but they did not have it. We on the other hand get to watch it over and over again and judge them on it. Ain't life grand!

Guess not. He had the same angle as the camera that filmed the clip we saw. It appears he is looking right at it. But I guess ignoring it and running off the floor was his job at the point. If so. Job well done.

It appears from the look of this post the BBA will have quite a few new members next season. I look forward to seeing them suite up and work some games.

Snap of the finger? That wasn't a difficult call and he blew it. Maybe it was an honest mistake, but its one thats hard to accept.

I enjoy your posts MC. LOL

I agree, the guy has the same look that we did and you can say its a bang bang all you want but it was clear as water that basket was good.

Would anyone like to deny that?

If one ref says no good and one ref says good and the ref underneath definately does not have a vantage point, what do we do??? This is a serious question! What can we do? We do not have video. Can you imagine the conversation:

Trail official: " No good, no good!"

Side offical: " I think it was good, I really do!"

Trail official: " It was my call and it was no good! What do you think underneath official?"

Underneath official: I do not know. I was watching under the basket."

Trail official: " Well then my call stands. No good!"

Side offical: " Well I think it was good and you will agree with me tomorrow when you watch the replay on BGP."

It was just bad and now it is up to KHSAA to put something in place to try to prevent it from happening again.

Its not his call. If the trail made the call and then ran off the court there's not much this guy can do EVEN if he thought it was the wrong call.

So tell me what the guy should have done when the person whose responsibility it was to make the call made the call and then scooted off the floor?

Other than instant replay there is nothing the KHSAA can put into place.

Exactly. Refer to post #35

Nothing can be done about it now. What can be done is a rules change to require venues that host championship series games (district, regional and state) have video replay available for last second shots and determining in situations how much time should be on the clock. This would also be a great opportunity for local TV stations to work with schools in developing video journalism classes to film the games. Now we have made something good and educational out of a bad situation.

I love all of the referees on here making excuses for the horrible call. You want to know what their responsiblity is? Get the call RIGHT! I love this "It's not my zone", "It's not my call" crap. That's the problem with basketball officiating. Since they have gone to 3-man crews, I think the officiating has gotten worse. It used to be with 2-guys that they had more coverage, and both officials made calls that "overlapped" their partners coverage - for the purpose of getting it right. Now with 3-man, they spend more time griping about a partner making a call "in their area".

I just watched it again. Its really close on the walking call. He was putting the dribble down nearly simultaneously.

Now, if the walk had been called, Franklin would still be upset and most likely even more than they are right now. And, still the argument would be going on and on about whether he walked because it wasn't obvious.

The KHSAA would have to mandate all Region sites have instant replay and the lights in the backboards in order to accomplish a good replay system.

HMMMM..wonder if anyone ever test the lights and clock to see if they are timed up properly. Are these ever calibrated or is the technology just that good?

Sparky It appears to me you are by far the best referee the BBA could have.

I hope you join their association so that everyone can belittle you next year.:ylsuper:
