BBA - No Accountability

I will agree that this could be missed because it was missed, but let me say this, the Franklin County buzzer beater call was not near as close as the UK/Miss St buzzer beater call. I was in attendance at both games. In the FC game, the ball was at its highest point, in front of the backboard, before the light came on. The ref out top called the basket no good, and all three exited immediately. At the UK game the ball was not far from being out of Big Cuz's hands. At the UK game no immediate call was made, the refs got together and then went to the replay.

IMO the FC call was obvious and it was missed. Now we could review film all day long and look at subjective judgment calls that were called or missed that would have changed the outcome. Every basketball fan knows that you get some judged against you as well as some in your favor.

In the FC game it is my opinion that with the technology in place at EKU, excluding replay, the correct call should have been made at the end of regulation with three refs on the floor. It was a horribly missed call, and everyone in the gym knew it including the folks that came out on the good end of the deal.

John Wall should have been called for a travel before his shot as he most likely picked up his left foot before dribbling the ball.

On TV it showed the trail ref called Cuz's shot good immediately but then they got together to watch the replay to confirm the call.
Sorry I did not see the ref make that call yesterday at the game. That 4.9 seconds seemed like an eternity!!!

The key was the long rebound. The clock didn't start till Wall touched it. Rebound was straight to Cousins with an immediate put back.

No way the trail official wasn't going to call it good on the court. Plus, he knew he had replay to back him up.

If replay had been in play for FC they would have gotten right. Its a shame it isn't used. But without the replay with the clock inside the screen, it wont fix anything.

We all pretty agree the call was missed.

Brother I'm just stating facts, I got alot more important things to worry about than a basketball game. I got payroll to make every two weeks, debt to pay off, college tuition to pay for three kids all of which I plan on getting off the payroll in the next 8 to 10 years. Dogs to feed. Turkeys to hunt soon. A fishin trip to take in two weeks. Food plots to plant. Grass to mow soon. Getting my golf game fine tuned. Taxes to pay by April 15th............You want me to go on???????

Looked like Patterson touched it before Wall.

Correct and the clock started when PP touched it.

Maybe that is why Tom Eades is in the SEC and not working high school?

He was quick to get to the scorers table. No way replay wasn't being reviewed.

College officials have a backup with the replay...and that takes some pressure off them.

Takes A WHOLE LOT of Pressure off. I am sure if the three BBA refs in this game knew they could have gone to a monitor to get it right, they would have!

AND it would have been reversed:thumb:

Sorry I'm just now getting in on this but here is my take:

1.) I would love to see high school have the monitor but that is just not possible with some of the schools. They don't have the technology or money to get that in all gyms.

2.) The ref's in question know now that they missed it. Do you not think that is enough and suspension is a crazy thing to ask for? Cut them some slack because I'm sure you've made at least ONE mistake in your life. I've had Bo Queen work some games for me and I will tell you that I think he is a great official. He may have had the best angle but from C he is watching for a foul not if the final shot is good. That is trails call.

3.) You folks that are bashing Bart Lenox are in another world. The Berea fight.... Have you ever seen Berea play? They are as rough and physical as any team I've ever seen. That could happen to anyone. You must not have watched the Christian County game Bart hard Wednesday. As good, if not the best game that's been called up here yet! We all know that's crazy to bash him.... Come on!

You have just confirmed what this thread is all about. A coach makes a mistake = he pays. A player makes a mistake = he pays. A referee makes a mistake = give them a pass (aka no accountability).

I dont' want to beat a dead horse. Everyone has seen the video from the Henry Clay vs. Franklin County game, and know the refs screwed up. However, as the very next game in the 11th region tournament was set to tip off, I was astonished to see Bo Queen on the floor to call the Scott County vs. Tates Creek game. Is there no accountability for these officials at all?

No ref from the HC vs. FC game should have been allowed to call any game the rest of the post-season. Franklin County was sure had liked to have another game, and I bet those 7 seniors and 3 senior managers would like to have had a chance to move on in the tournament, but they were denied that. There season was over, and at the very least the 3 officials responsible should have had there season concluded as well.

Not to mention that Bo had the best angle of the player and the shot as time expired, and the fact that he did nothing to right the call should be enough to keep him off any of the rest of the post-season games.

Every year, I hear how great the officials are in the BBA, and that they are the best in the state. Every year I say they are terrible, and with the latest round of poor judgments and a definite lack of accountability, I think it is time for the 11th region to go out of region for the tournament. The rest of the state can't possibly be any worse that this, and at least they would call without bias and without the large chip on their shoulders!

'Tis funny what the very first sentence of this 4 page thread was:

I have been told to not post about officiating on this forum but I have finally got to say something because I am tired of this crap...

I have been officiating for 25 years been to the show in 3 major sports and officiated many regional finals so I believe that qualifies me to make the following statments:

The BBA supervisor has suspended at least 20 officials for missing rules this year, I know because I was one of them. We are held to a very high standard and every night we are officiating a state tournament caliber game, very intense, very athletic and we love it, that's why we do it, for the love of the game.

When I go ref a game I usually end up loosing money by the time I get back paying for gas and the time I spend on the road, we most definitely do not referee high school for the money.

The referees in question were disciplined but that is a personnel issue and will not be discussed in this forum and that is why you haven't heard anything about it, we are held to a much higher standard than any other officiating group in the state of Kentucky and we love it that way, that is why I continue to drive 2 hours on the average one way to ref a high school game because we have the best basketball in the state night in and night out to officiate and the best officials and we do it for the kids, I know that is why I am there, to give something back to the game that I love and for the kids and that is why all the officials I work with are there as well.

If you think these three officials aren't sick over this and it doesn't haunt them then you are sadly mistaken, the last thing a great official wants to do is miss a call, much less one that decides the outcome of a game, but to be chastised, ridiculed and talked about like a dog on here and other public forums is completely uncalled for, instead of doing this we all need to get together to see what we can do to make this situation better for us all.

There is no reason we shouldn't be able to have replay monitors starting at the regional tournament, in the regional final in the 11th I saw 15 monitors and 5 of them were running instant replays. Money is the issue I keep hearing come up, well, Title IX there are grants available to do some things with sports for young women and putting sports broadcasting in as part of a curriculum at a school that wants to host the a region would be something that should be able to be done. This would give the students professional training all year during the regular season and maybe bring some professionals in to assist during tournament time. Why not try? Has to be some funding somewhere to get this done...

The only thing I am hearing on here is negative comments and reasons why we can't make it better, if high school referees are going to be held accountable to this extent then we need the tools, resources and technology available to get the calls right, if we continue to ridicule officials for missing calls, we all do, we are human and its going to happen again, then we need to do this or you that are complaining get off your butts and get out on the floor with us and try and make a positive difference.

I can tell you this, if we don't do something then we are going to start loosing some veteran officials, again I don't do it for the money, I go in the hole every time I get in the car to travel and the majority of us do it for the same reasons, and we will not get younger officials to start officiating after seeing the veteran officials get ridiculed because they are going to say, $50, nah, that's not worth it.

The veterans I know are going to continue strapping it on and giving everything we got until we can't physically do it any more for the love of the game. I do say instead of ridicule, chastising and putting down, find something positive out of this experience that will make a difference so it will improve the game for the kids, because that is what it is all about, we all agree on that point.
