Chris Webb resigned. Valley hired another guy, Stan Jackson, I think, then told him that Webb changed his mind. Webb still coach, Jackson out.

Coach lasted (1) year longer than I thought he would. He talked about changing the culture, but all he did was add fuel to the fire. Yes, they have / had some talent, but if you let the inmates run the asylum, you aren't going to change anything. They will take the easy route and give it to the assistant coach who has (2) boys in the program (just like they did with football), but that won't change anything.

Wrong! Assigners are not responsible for anything, just like the referees.

Rocket dad, what were the questionable calls? I didnt see any calls that affected the game. The thing that got me was the slow pace of the game. Coaches calling time, batters calling time, pitchers stepping off the rubber, substitutions. That 6th inning seemed like 2 hours.

Shanda Miller name rings a bell with me, but can't place her. Anybody got any history on her?

They hired someone, but keeping in theme with the past 8 or 9 coaches they've had in the past 4 or 5 years, they quit! Sorry, but I couldn't resist.

Why stop at 1998? PRP did compete back in the 70's and 80's and won the region sometime in the early 2000's, but nothing in the "modern era". They traditionally schedule soft so that coach can get his 20 wins per year, they traditionally are the 5th or 6th best team in the region every year, they traditionally get blown out in the semi's of the region tournament after playing in their weak district. They are Central, but in the 6th region and a 1000 more students.

washedup11, who says PRP has tradition? PRP has 2,000 students barely has 10-15 kids in their whole basketball program, and you say kids want to go there and be role players? That program is progressively getting worse year by year.

What's the problem, why is it a problem and who has the problem?

I think that most, if not all of you, are missing the point about transfers. The KHSSA mission statement contains language that emphasizes participation and enhancing the experience for the student-athlete - nothing about a coach, program, parent or booster. Being true to their word, the KHSAA will favor the student-athlete, no matter how bad it smells sometimes.

Call it what you want, but it is a "release". There is a box on the transfer form that the school check to make the transfer process a breeze for the kid transferring. If they check the other box (for any reason good or bad), the kid is ineligible and has to appeal. I wonder how many of you on here commenting about the transfer process have actually had kids that have gone through the transfer process. Also, something for everyone to consider while you are wondering why transferring has become so easy. There are a lot of bad coaches and corrupt programs out there. Do you think that some kids get a pass on transferring as long as they keep their mouth shut about wrong doings at the school they are transferring from?

The last coach was only going to be there until his daughter graduated which was this year. Everybody knew that when they hired him. The problem at Fern Creek is a double standard with the boys and the girls. Boys run AAU workouts on Sunday morings. Girls not allowed to. The administration and the AD do not care about girls sports at FC. It's been like that for years. Anybody that tries to buck them and support girls, gets gone! This year's coach the latest example.

If you are saying that Mr. Basketball decisions were based upon one game, even a little bit, then how come those other players that scored more points, had better stats and came away with the W against Williams didn't win Mr. Basketball? Being a bit sarcastic with comment above, but serious about this one - congratulations to a great, deserving player, Carson Williams!

The revolving door continues. What's this make now, something like 8 different coaches in the last 5 years? Does anybody care about girls basketball?

"It is a shame how our schools, parents, and communities treat HS coaches." Why is it always somebody else's fault when a coach leaves a program? And it's always easy to point a finger at the parents. Some of these coaches move on to administrative positions, some have kids playing that they would rather watch, some don't like coaching and, the one that I agree with more than anything, some just don't know what they are doing and need to quit. It's difficult to keep a good coach because it's not about keeping a good coach. It's about the principal or the AD hiring their buddy. In the 6th and 7th region, there is a correlation between principal or AD changes and coaching changes.

I agree that the coach opening stuff is nice information. I disagree with the content.

"And as always, if you think you can do better, sign up, take the test and show us." This statement alone is what is wrong with officiating. Whether I officiate or not will not improve the overall terrible officiating that exists today. And by the way, my basketball officiating days are long gone. Officiating needs to get better, and no one on an administrative level has the guts to say that it needs fixing. Coaches and especially players deserve better than what is being paid to officiate today. Now just because I don't officiate anymore does not mean that I'm not allowed to state the obvious - officiating as a whole is bad, and it's getting worse. And on another note, I don't think that our state and federal political representatives are doing a very good job either. Based upon referee logic, I can only express that opinion if I run for office.

There already is a shot clock -of sorts - 4 times a game, at the end of every quarter. Take the last 30 seconds of each quarter and that's what the game would look like with a shot clock. A team usually turns the ball over or throws up a last second prayer 9 out of 10 times when they hold for the last shot. Shooting percentages are down and horrible, ill-advised shots are way, way up. A shot clock would make both go in even more of an opposite direction. People who think that high schools need shot clocks are the same ones who think that everybody can afford them, everybody has qualified people willing to operate them every game, that scoring would increase and that everybody wants to be the coach at their school.

You have hit a nerve with me! The reason the game is so ugly these days is because it is all about scoring. And the only way to score is to jack up a lot of shots. And coaches don't seem to care if the shots are good or bad.

This thread comes up at least once every season, and the problem is the same every year because we have the same bad officials every year with no accountability. And the proposed "solution" is the same every year - pick up a whistle. Me picking up a whistle does not solve the problem, but if some referees would put their whistle down, it would be a good start to a solution. Referees are not volunteers, and they don't officiate for community service hours. They get paid. And get paid pretty good, around $30 per hour. I don't know of many other jobs where you can make this kind of money with no accountability.

No surprise with this hire. If I'm not mistaken this is a Principal Mayes assistant from his days when he was head coach at Manual. Figured it would be a good ole boy. He's good enough to finish 3rd in their district just like the other coaches unless the principal can manipulate the entrance requirements to get some more athletes in the school. And just to show you how talk goes, I was told by an administrator that they had over 50 applicants and had a very hard time picking among the 5 that got interviews.

Obviously you don't know how corrupt the booster clubs are and where that money goes. Same thing for summer camps that the coaches run.

At Western today, Fern Creek played Western, Valley vs. Seneca and Collegiate vs Moore

Manual does not get the numbers that you would think. Yes they do get 400 students a year, but they do not get 50 football players per year. It's a 6a school because of all of the YPAS and MST kids, not athletes.

Big school? Enrollment is around 600. School took a turn for the worst when the current principal was hired, and she made this ludicrous claim that the school was going to focus on school and not necessarily athletics. She's done a heck of job because she's been through 3-4 coaches in her short stint and test scores have dropped since she's been there.
