BBA - No Accountability

How many free throws did both teams shoot in this game and how many were made? Lets just see how this game could have been effected by the charity stripe shooting.

I just watched it again. Its really close on the walking call. He was putting the dribble down nearly simultaneously.

Now, if the walk had been called, Franklin would still be upset and most likely even more than they are right now. And, still the argument would be going on and on about whether he walked because it wasn't obvious.

The KHSAA would have to mandate all Region sites have instant replay and the lights in the backboards in order to accomplish a good replay system.

HMMMM..wonder if anyone ever test the lights and clock to see if they are timed up properly. Are these ever calibrated or is the technology just that good?

I respectfully disagree, it's an obvious travel. :thumb:

If one ref says no good and one ref says good and the ref underneath definately does not have a vantage point, what do we do??? This is a serious question! What can we do? We do not have video. Can you imagine the conversation:

Trail official: " No good, no good!"

Side offical: " I think it was good, I really do!"

Trail official: " It was my call and it was no good! What do you think underneath official?"

Underneath official: I do not know. I was watching under the basket."

Trail official: " Well then my call stands. No good!"

Side offical: " Well I think it was good and you will agree with me tomorrow when you watch the replay on BGP."

It was just bad and now it is up to KHSAA to put something in place to try to prevent it from happening again.

If the other two officials can't agree on a call, the referee makes the final decision.

Its not his call. If the trail made the call and then ran off the court there's not much this guy can do EVEN if he thought it was the wrong call.

How many times do we se a ref in a 3 person crew make a call that is "not their call"? Happens all the time. How bout he mans up and goes to the scorers table and say he saw it differently? I have seen calls overturned many times buy a backside ref. Just can't believe they bolted from the floor.

Sure there is, he could have stayed on the floor and beckoned the other officials back out. You see it all the time, one official may have one call and another may have something else, they get together and have a conference and make a decision. This could have been done in this situation. The officials job is to get the call right and not worry about who's responsibility it is or whether it over turns his partner's initial call.

So a ref sees something and just keeps his mouth shut?? They might as well save some cash and put only one ref on the floor then...

So tell me what the guy should have done when the person whose responsibility it was to make the call made the call and then scooted off the floor?

Get the call right! Stay there and have his partners come back out for a conference and discuss the situation. It's that simple.

That doesn't matter at all. It doesn't matter if Franklin County was 0-20 from the line and committed 35 turnovers. They had the ball at the end with a chance to win, took a legal shot that was released before the buzzer and went in. Regardless of any earllier mistakes made by them or the officials they did what was necessary to win the game only to have it erased by an official's mistake. That is not fair to them. The whole "don't let it be close enough where one mistake can beat you", or "one call doesn't beat you" is stupid. What if the two teams are completely evenly matched? This was a case where a call decided the final outcome. Its a shame for the players, coaches and officials who I'm sure feel awful about it.

I've never seen one official stay on the floor after the calling official leaves the floor. Never happened. Can't imagine it would ever happen.

You are correct that officials get together. However, unless the calling official is somehow convinced he's wrong he's not changing the call.

You and others who say officials "get together" are 100% correct. For example, lead calls ball out on team A but the Center official sees that it actually deflected off of B. They get together. C says "I'm 100% sure" and it usually gets changed. Good officiating.

Officials are taught that when the horn blows they check the desk to make sure they have no questions and then get the heck off of the floor. I wasn't at this game but I'm guessing the calling official waved it off, made sure the scorer saw him and that the goal didnt count, and then got off the floor.

Therefore, you would NOT see another official (the guy we see in the video) stay on the floor and say "go get my fellow official so that I can express my disagreement." Fantasy world. The calling official got off the floor because in his mind (rightly or wrongly) he made the right call. So, even if we play the fantasy game of saying one official calls another official back to the floor the call is NOT going to get changed.

Sparky It appears to me you are by far the best referee the BBA could have.

I hope you join their association so that everyone can belittle you next year.:ylsuper:

It obviously doesn't take much to be the best referee in the BBA. I would think that you guys on here that are referees would be as arrogant on this message board as your are on the court. You all seem awful touchy. On another note Trojan, I hate to disappoint you, but my high school refereeing days are over. You missed your chance to belittle me. You will just have to do it on the message board.

Honestly, you don't know what he was thinking. He may have been running off the floor because he knew he blew it and he wanted to get out while he was still able to. Again, it is the officials responsibility to get the call right no matter who's toes you step on. I've seen officials conference after time has expired to discuss the final play, and if any of those three officials felt that the wrong call was made, they should have met and discussed it.
