Wow somebody makes a simple point and people sign on ( 5 post) to try and make a mountain out of a mole hill. I haven't gone back and reread every post but I don't believe Clyde ever said they didn't miss the last second shot. He pointed out, correctly so, that there was a travel by the point guard at the beginning of the play that was missed. If that had been called the whole ending to the game would have been a mute point. :thumb:

I disagree that it was a walk. That is how I see the play. I paid my $20 to post my opinion which I think is correct. We are just going to have to agree to disagree.

I looked at this several times in slow motion. If the guy starting the play traveled...it would have been his right foot, and it would have been difficult to get a piece of paper under his foot before he dribbled. Someone is looking for something not there just to offset an easily identifiable bad call.

Yep. :thumb:

Trust me. I love when people debate me so welcome.

Can you tell me why it doesn't violate the travel rule?

First of all I have never officiated a game, I get the impression that you have. Therefore I have never read a rulebook, but if I have the whistle, my judgement is that the pivot foot remains established until the ball is dribbled. This is how I see the play and therefore I don't blow the whistle and call a walk. As one of the refs that officiated this game said to a person I know "the power is with the whistle".

So we disagree on what we saw. IMO it is clear that after the two jabs with the non-pivot foot he lifts his pivot foot (doesn't matter how far off the ground) before he starts the dribble.

I would be curious to know the context of the quote by the official you quoted.

In the context of what might make an official lean one way or another with a judgement call.

Seems inappropriate.

Technically, its a walk.

But, live game action, last second play its got to obvious to get that call.

Now, you are going to say the basket was obvious. Again, with replay it is obvious it was good. But live game action, no replay, that could have been missed easily. It was close to the human eye without replay.

Instant replay, with the clock shown inside the screen, is the only way to fix this. HS cannot afford this and it won't happen anytime soon. Possibly in the state finals, but not at 16 regional locations. It won't happen.

After reading all of these posts i now have come to these conclusions:

1. Fans of a team will always see things one sided. (I knew this but these posts verified it!)

2. Referees are HUMAN and make mistakes. (Always knew this one was true. I just like it when they make fewer against my team!)

3. If a referee(s) makes a mistake that costs a team a very important game they will be ridiculed and made fun of on BGP. (This can also happen to coaches!)

4. No matter how many freethrows, layups, or jumpshots are missed in game, if an official misses a call on a made basket it is their fault if a team loses. (I'm still up in the air on this one b/c it only happens in basketball leagues which do not have INstant Replay.)

5. Official score keepers are important (Really good ones are hard to come by!), but they can never count a basket or make foul calls.

6. If robots officiated basketball we would find something to complain about (they call it to tight, they call too many touch fouls, they don't communicate well with coaches, they drove off the court too fast after the final buzzer)

7. Sports will always be something people are passionate about, however, we should never elevate that passion so high that we forget that it is just a game. Players, coaches, referees, fans, scorekeepers, concession stand workers, parents, ect..those people are what make sports great. The relationships that are built and love of the game are what make it fun to watch. (Especially, when my team wins!!!)

8. I wasted some very precious moments of my life i can never get back reading this post. Its kind of sad now that i think about it.

I will agree that this could be missed because it was missed, but let me say this, the Franklin County buzzer beater call was not near as close as the UK/Miss St buzzer beater call. I was in attendance at both games. In the FC game, the ball was at its highest point, in front of the backboard, before the light came on. The ref out top called the basket no good, and all three exited immediately. At the UK game the ball was not far from being out of Big Cuz's hands. At the UK game no immediate call was made, the refs got together and then went to the replay.

IMO the FC call was obvious and it was missed. Now we could review film all day long and look at subjective judgment calls that were called or missed that would have changed the outcome. Every basketball fan knows that you get some judged against you as well as some in your favor.

In the FC game it is my opinion that with the technology in place at EKU, excluding replay, the correct call should have been made at the end of regulation with three refs on the floor. It was a horribly missed call, and everyone in the gym knew it including the folks that came out on the good end of the deal.

That doesn't change the fact that it was a travel.

I looked at it many more times...he actually slides the foot a few inches forward and it could have been called a travel...but this happened very fast.

On TV it showed the trail ref called Cuz's shot good immediately but then they got together to watch the replay to confirm the call.
