Mason Co sit on the vistors bench last night. The Benches are set by the draw. The tournament managers will not change this unless requested by the home team. It has happened in the past. The idea of having the home team dress in their Mason locker room is really a good idea. It connects to the Coaches office and then Mason can listen to their game plan.

 

Then it is up to the tournament managers to see that the opposing student section is not seated behind the opposing team. Tape and posters are put up for these areas. This is something that needs to be addressed by the tournament managers, not by the " home team coaches". Come on people do some things you know is the right thing to do. Did Mason fans sit on the visiting side as dictated by the brackets? Where will GRC fans sit Monday?

 

Mason hosted the Regional Tournament for approximately 35 years in a row and there has been more complaints this year than probably in the other 35 years combined. The cost to get in, the benches and all of this stuff is discussed in the Regional tournament meeting. Your school voted on these issues. I have been to several of these meetings and I have never heard any Coach ever bring up the benches and the cheering section behind them. At Montgomery Co and other places home fans sits on both sides due to the chair back seats. After the last two nights and the lond awaited Mason-Clark matcu-up on Monday, I still for the life of me do not understand how people don't think the Fieldhouse is the best venue for the best Regional tourney in the state. I will go out on a limb and say this will be the best attended tourney in the state. People complain but come two hours before gametime to get a bag of popcorn and sit on the front row. It will be a "slobber knocker."

 

Great point, they shouldn't have too. The tourney managers should take care of these things. Just pointing out some things that will make the 10th region the best venue as you state.

Why would the opposing teams student section be designated to be behind the bench at a neutral site? Sounds a bit off.

35 years in a row, the reason you have complaints is that now people have been other places and realize the palace on the hill is not the only place you can play the 10th Region Tournament. I agree with you it is a great place to play and wonderful atmosphere, but the arrogance of your school staff in thinking they are the only ones that can run it is just being noticed.

Goldie, if you are indeed the Home team (via the Brackets), GRC should be allowed to use the home team locker room and sit on the home team bench.

 

Mason County is only hosting the Region and if indeed GRC is the home team, they should sit on the home bench, be the home team on the scoreboard, use the home team locker, and their fans should be sitting in the home section of the gym.

Mason County or any team that is hosting a regional tourney is only the host, and has no more right to being the Home Team than any other team, unless they are the home team via the brackets!

 

Have you ever seen this occur? Has CCH every given up their locker to Holmes while hosting the 35th? Also, many teams have fans who attend every game, and sit in the same seat every game so assigned seating only goes so far.

Mason County fans will never sit on the other side, you can book that.

NO they are not. Pendleton Co should have sit on the home side last night, not Mason Co fans. According to the brackets set up in the coachings meeting the upper bracket is the home team.

IF I am coaching, I want my fans screaming behind the opposing teams bench. I want my band blaring beind the opposing team's bench.

All the administration can do is put up signs telling the Mason Co. faithful where to sit. But like has been said many sit in the same seat every game so therefore they will still sit on their same side. So if you put up signs telling Mason Co. fans to sit on the away side you will probably ending up having a mixture of both on each side and that wouldn't be a good situation at all. I know me, I always try to sit on the front row on the away side. I don't cheer too hard, and it has just always been my favorite seat in the house. It doesn't matter what team is the away team that is where I am going to try to sit.

Easiest solution? Go to the nicest arena in the area that is willing to host the tournament and there is not a problem. Like I said earlier in the thread. The fieldhouse is old and really not condusive to fixing this issue. Nice seats, plenty of room, better concessions (if you choose to partake; but you have that choice) and there is no bickering. Kids get to play in NKU's new arena with a trip to RUPP on line. :dancingpa

Let's just pool our money together and rent Rupp Arena and put an end to all of this childish behavior!!! Then whoever wins will have an advantage by playing on the floor where the Sweet 16 is played.

I agree with what was said earlier, the complaints are more numerous now because we have seen what others can do to put on a top notch tourney. And it is not the responsibility of the coaches to tell the hosts what to do - it is the hosts responsibility to know what to do - besides from the sound of things on this post, they wouldn't listen to the coaches anymore than they are listening to the posters.

 

Since it is at Mason County next year, let's see if they can make the adjustments necessary. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
