Is it arrogance wanting to host the best Regional tournament at the best high school venue to have the tournament. If so, Guilty. Tomorrow night there will be 5000 screaming people packed to the gills who just can't wait the the horn to go off at 25:00 minute for the players to take the floor. The hair on your neck will raise. What if this game was at Montgomery? BOK? There would not be 3000 at BOK arena for this game. This game draws from everywhere. After tomorrow night, I really don't understand how people could want to have this at anywhere else. I am from Mason and is biased, but I am also a big basketball fan in general and this is where it should be.

Sumoroyal you clearly need to remove yourself from this conversation as you are very very biased. There is no way in the world you can claim a better arena. Not even taking that conversation its so far from reality. If the fieldhouse is at capacity and you say it wouldn't be at NKU then that simply means the Mason fans do not travel well. Several friends and I would love to attend but will not be able to make it but I assure you that you would draw a lot larger 'non-playing audience' in NKU than at Mason. Mason's lack of travel should not become a problem for the other teams in the Region. Great program! One of the best if not the best in the Region and certainly ranks up there with the best in the state. Just stating the facts according to your comment.

 

Also, if you are the tournament host it is YOUR responsibility to ensure the tournament is ran according to the agreed upon rules. Not stating that I know them, just saying it is their responsbility. Yes opposing coaches have a chance to voice their concerns but at the same time the host school should go out of their way to make this a non-issue. That just common curteousy and being prideful of the tournement you are hosting. Maybe Mason has held the title so long that they have become a little lax? In analyzing Pendleton's loss to Mason in the semifinals I had no definite answers. This thread has made it clear to me. Conclusions:

1. Our fans had to sit on the wrong side of the gym.

2. Our fans were not properly fed by the host school.

3. Our team had to use the wrong locker room.

4. Our team had to sit in front of the Mason student section.

Wanting to provide student athletics with the best possible environment to participate in a game that for most will be the most important game of their life is very admirable. But for one community to think after 50 plus years that no one else can do what they have done for years is arrogance to the highest level.

 

Lets face it most boys and girls never get the chance to play in the state tourney, so it is important to make it the best event possible. Students should not have to deal with simple adjustments that adults can make, nor should coaches have to ask. As for following the rules, I asked our coaches and they agreed that at the draw meetings benches are discussed, but never is where students are seated voted on by the group. They tell me that is up to the host.

 

You are right tomorrow will be a great night of basketball, and the best team will win. You can also bet that in 2012 and 2013 the best teams will win, and the fans from Mason can travel to Mount Sterling or Highland Heights, or they can stay home because most won't matter because if they don't come someone else will be in their seat. I just hope the Camels are their playing!!

All the administration can do is put up signs telling the Mason Co. faithful where to sit. But like has been said many sit in the same seat every game so therefore they will still sit on their same side. So if you put up signs telling Mason Co. fans to sit on the away side you will probably ending up having a mixture of both on each side and that wouldn't be a good situation at all. I know me, I always try to sit on the front row on the away side. I don't cheer too hard, and it has just always been my favorite seat in the house. It doesn't matter what team is the away team that is where I am going to try to sit.

Thanks so much for the info. That is what I thought. Lets see if the host school does the right thing and moves the Mason Co student section from behind the home teams bench.

You can't make people sit where you want them. Everybody pays their $5 and can sit where ever they want. Yes, there is a home and an away side and most people follow it but there is no way you can make a person sit where you want them to. Like have said this whole thread, I am a Mason County fan(do not cheer) but I will be on the away side first row tomorrow night no matter what anybody has to say about it. That is just where I like to sit.
