NKY Freshman Football

Featured Replies

If Hatton decides to play football at DH, he is an impact player on the varsity level- no Frosh or JV for him.

Is this a good thing? I know he is extremely talented with the round ball; but is the Dixie program that much in need to take a frosh and jump him to varsity? Does he play a skilled position. HHS has plenty of talent coming through the ranks but a frosh playing varsity minutes and being an impact player? He has done it playing basketball but football at a bigger school; if he does kudos, but what does that say about the state of the program.

Not sure how many kids Newport will have coming from the firefighters or how good they are but they should have some solid players from the Jr high team. If anything they will have some beef thats for sure.

You're right in most cases a frosh playing varsity is a sign of desperate times. However, if a player is that good...what are your options? A) Let him play freshman ball B) Let him play Frosh and JV C) Let him play Varsity only. It is difficult as a head coach to have a kid play frosh/jv ball, when they already competed at the varsity level in another sport. I say you let the kid earn a spot on Varsity and take your lumps...although with Dixies schedule, that may not change a thing. Aren't they usually a 500 ball club?

That will be impressive to see.

Exactly.

Hatton could end up playing Div 1 hoops and he is crazy to play football imo. If he were at Highlands I would say go for it but I don't see Dixie making any run at a state championship soon and he is just risking injury. You don't find too many kids who can play hoops like BH. He has a high basketball IQ, a very sweet shot, a varsity body already and he would be better served working on agility and strength training during the Fall in order to prepare him for the college game. With all that said it certainly is his choice and if he enjoys playing football then he should play and have fun.

So what will Campbell County have next year at the Frosh level besides Harris and Geiman? Does anyone see this program turning around in the near future?

The 8th grade team was solid last year only losing to a very strong Cov Cath team twice. Add in some Red Devils (Geiman, Harris, Logan Schneider, Avery Wood and others) and they will have a pretty solid group. The key will be the coaching. CCHS needs to find the right person at the freshman level to develop this talent. Coach Caudill does a very good job at the middle school but it does not seem to continue down the street.

Sorry to get snippy. I personally know all the people who voted. I personally voted for Zach. But I know that it was a hard debate for some coaches. I even talked to Zach about this. The senior division really doesn't have that issue with the CCRD. I see it in the younger divisions. They were really fair about the vote. Zach will be a stud and him and scruggs really had a good time in the all star game.

No offense coach, but you had to vote for another player besides Scruggs. Harris was the best player in the league. I'm not sure that Scruggs was 2nd best. Wrobleski, Hergott and Wood are in the conversation as well.

:puke: Come on man!! Do you know how many kids read these threads? Don't give them ideas to quit a sport or not play a sport because they may have a chance to play college ball...where?? NKU, Thomas More? Don't listen to this person on here..Play as many sports in HS as you can, especially if you can do well at them!

It would be a mistake to not play football because you are a 5'11 guard who has good skills. If he likes football he should play football regardless of how strong the team is.

Longshot to be a division 1 b-baller.

Agreed. You never know where your God given talent will take you. David Justice went to Thomas More to play basketball. He played baseball there because he hated basketball running/conditioning. Scouts see the talent and he goes on to have a very good career in Major League Baseball with the Braves and Yankees. Play all sports you can and keep your options open. What God has given you will eventually make the decision on which sport(s) you are best at.

I agree here 100% Clyde. Kids gotta do what they love to do. I totally disagree with kids limiting themselve to one sport cause someone told them they should. If they want to fine, but let kids be kids and find the things they enjoy doing the most, and have the most success doing.

Brandon Hatton WILL play football to all you who have questions about it.

It pains me to admit some very good advise coming from Mr Swim Club VOR. IMO play them all and keep options open especially until you get into your 10th grade year. Even then I am an advocate of playing two sports, but the 3 sport athletes are IMO a thing of the past. Perhaps you can play them in small school but not in your powerhouse programs.
