The last half of this post is comical its because of X simple answer...Match any of those teams you mentioned and they lose to X by 50 or more and are no longer playing this weekend...

 

I guarantee St. X would not beat Boyle County by 50. I guarantee it. Write it down, put it in stone. I guarantee it. Not a team in this state would beat Boyle County by 50. Honestly, I think there are less than 5 teams that would beat Boyle County and SK sure isn't one of them. Unfortunately, we won't get to see that happen. Then maybe one of the "small school boys" and "one of the kids" would get a little more respect.

I'm sure I'm not the only one on this sight that does so but I have kept my Insight just for the ability to watch Friday Night Flights on KYT. I actually prefer it over anything in the Cincy market since we are the stepchild in this area but sometimes they don't show it and I have to get upset because I don't want to purchase that beautiful emerarld ring on that shopping network show. I absolutely love watching Rees and Hayden's highlights, they are truly great players. I wish both of their squads the best this weekend and I'd be shocked to see either BC or LCA losing their games. Whoever wins the award deserves the award, it will be something they can boast about for the rest of their lives, quite the acheivement. Those who don't win the award shouldn't be upset, just to be in the running says enough. I'd take any of these players on my squad.

 

Do not be shocked at all if LCA loses. Mayfield is very, very good. And the player Mayfield has on the Mr. Football ballot is as good as anyone I have seen. And yes, I have seen Hayden and Collinsworth and Simpson and others on the ballot. Xavier Shelton of Mayfield is an awesome football player.

You are correct - he had a terrific year and we are glad he is being recognized accordingly.

 

He is also a GREAT young man with his head screwed on right and his life's priorities aligned where many of us wish we could be - he is a good Christian kid and has tremendous values.

After seeing him in person and seeing how great he is I think the award should go to MacShara. He is the best player I have seen this year.

No, Simpson's #'s while playing for a 6A team were more than likely against some of the best tacklers in the State INCLUDING St X which he had close to 100 yards in about 2 1/2 quarters against, I think that's what he's trying to say.

 

If you don't get it find how many threads talked about SK's O-Line being tops in the state, there won't be too many. They were a good O line but you all act like there can't be anyone better than 6A.

 

What I believe ROCKPRIDE was getting at is regardless of his #'s Simpsons mostly got his against probably the best competition in the state period. Especially when you consider the fact that the first 4 games he played injured and sparingly against what I'm sure you would consider weaker competition. Just look at his game by game stats he EXPLODED the second half of the season and that was against better equiped teams and also after he was healthy, I can COMPLETELY understand if you don't think he just suddenly got healthy, but watch the game films and you can tell a huge difference in his play and how he'd walk between plays.

 

I don't think that the best talent in the state has to be at the 5A and 6A level. It seems to me that some of the best talent to come out of KY over the past several years has come from the smaller classes. Schools such as E-town, Boyle Co., Central, etc. seem to have produced a lot of good college players.

It's an idea that I just can't rap my pointed head around, "If you play for a larger school, you must be better", very closed mind thinking. How many NFL players came from NAIA and D2 schools? They didn't have to play for a Top 10 team to be good, why does a player have to play for a 5A or 6A team in Kentucky to be the best?

 

Aaron Pettrey was one of the best kickers in college football this year, until his injury. He has kicked in national championship games for one of the most prolific college teams in the country, you don't have to like them, but they are always near the top. He must have played he largest school in Kentucky, right? Nope, Raceland a 1A school that is in the middle of the 1A class in regards to size. How can that be? A good player came from a 1A school? What is the world coming too?

That's because he has D-1 size. The whole point to Rees MacShara is the fact that he is doing the same things all these other boys are doing, putting up better stats than what these boys are putting up and he is smaller than them which, IMHO, makes his accomplishments even more impressive.

 

All of this banter back and forth is for nothing, though, everyone is going to stick to their local kid. I haven't seen Simpson play, but I vote Rees, you haven't seen Rees play so you vote Simpson.

It is what it is. Just like the best player doesn't necessary have to play on the best team yet some are saying it's up in the air until after the games this weekend. I thought Mr. Football was supposed to be decided on what the player did during the season. Heck the state rushing and rushing TD leader at the end of the regular season isn't even in the conversation. When was the last time the regular season rushing leader wasn't in the conversation? Yes Virginia he was from a class A school.

I honestly think they need to break Mr. Football up through the classes and hand out 3 each year. One of them for 1A and 2A, one for 3A and 4A and one for 5A and 6A. This would cut down on all of the level of competition talk. Mainly because I do feel like some people such as Hayden and Andrews get messed over due to where they live and thus go to school.

Either way it turns out, we got what we wanted, which was a State Championship. Nothing anyone can say will make me change my mind about Rees being Mr. Football(yes, I am completely and totally biased and not ashamed to admit it).

 

If he doesn't win, I'd like to see Andrews(likely winner, IMO) win it.

The kids don't choose where they play. As a fan of a 2A team, the Fort Campbell Falcons....I'm obviously an Andrews advocate. Now that the season is over, he gets my non-official vote based upon stats and stats alone. I've only seen McShara in action (in their come from behind championship win) and I think that Andrews was better at 75-80% than McShara was at 100% in their respective title games. No homerism intended either.

 

I can't discredit anyone else in the "race" because I haven't seen any of them play, I think before you make remarks like those, you should base your non-official vote (unless of course you're one of the few that gets an official vote) on stats and stats alone until you've actually seen each player play.

 

The bottom line is that it's not broken down by the six classes of football that represent the commonwealth of KY.......so until it is, please respect each player for what they've accomplished on the football field, not what they couldn't do at the next higher class.

 

I'm tired of reading the various posts that have the "Andrews couldn't play to that level in the bigger classes". What makes the bigger classes so much better? Are the linebackers bigger? Are the holes on the offensive line harder to find? Are the defensive backs taller?

 

The bigger classes are just that, bigger classes.....just my two lincolns.

Honestly, I think either MacShara, Andrews or Hayden will win the award and if they do I congratulate them. When it's all said and done Miles will be frying bigger fish, hopefully at the state University of Kentucky. All of these young men are more than worthy, it's just a matter of the vote. As fans of the Rebels, Falcons, Eagles and Pioneers we should be gracious that they were able to suit up every week for our teams, good luck to all.
