I am trying trying to undermine any of the accomplsihments of any of these young men, they are all great athletes and clearly above most in the state. I just find it ironic that everyone thinks that many of the names on this list from smaller schools (1-3A) only played schools their size, when in fact they typically played many games above their classes on a regular basis this year, so they played above their competition level if you use the classes as a basis for level of competition.

 

As far as the O-line goes, each of them had a good one, but after that, it was on the player. The same applies to all of these men, not just Simpson.

 

Exactly, I think Simpson is the best, then Collinsworth but I have a hard time giving it to him because of the games he missed, so after that I'd say Andrews.

While I am not sure about the rest from Louisville (that does surprise me), I am not really surprised not to see AC on the list. His numbers are not that impressive when compared to some of the others. Whether he missed some games or not isn't an issue to me because that happens to players every year. He is an exceptional player, but this year his numbers do not put him in the running. Obviously, a bunch of others agree with that theory.

Look up Versatility in the dictionary and there is probably a picture of Austin Collinsworth. Soph yr 2 nd Team All State Defensive Back, Jr Yr 1st Team All State WR, Sr Yr, probally 1st Team All State RB. How can you say that is not versatile. I would like to see every other candidates last three yrs of accomplishments and I will assure you that not one of them has been the kind of impact player that AC has been for their respected program in helping them win football games. That is how Mr Football should be looked at, how a kid has represented his school, his community, his team, put his team and football program before himself. It should not be about a bunch of gaudy numbers against weak schedules and teams for one yr. I challenge anyone to argue what he has done for three yrs and show me somebody better deserving of Mr Football. :thumb:

I actually thought he would get nominated as well, but I did not really know his numbers were that far off from some of the others even with missing the four games. As far as sitting the second half, quite a few of these guys have done that (from my understanding anyways) which makes you wonder what these guys could have done playing full games all year long.

I agree that AC was and is a very versatile player and has a great impact on his team and the program there. But Mr. Football is the best football player of the year, this year, not over a career or what they did the last 2 or 3 years. Whether we like it or not, that is how it ends up.

All of your posts reflect a interesting point about this award and that is that there is no set criteria for it. I seriously doubt a voter in Hazzard is going to look at it like hey John Doe at Pikeville should not get it because he did not play for a 6A school while a voter from Louisville may very well feel that way. Each voter has to decide what he thinks is the most important aspect and vote accordingly.

 

I for 1 think that a kid from a smaller school like Hayden deserves more credit because often the little school is playing up against bigger schools. A kid at a 6A school is never going to have to play up against any larger of a school. Does Hayden or Andrews get a bum deal because he had to play against a 6A team with all his 1A and 3A team mates. The notion that a 6A player would play in 1A or 2A and shatter all the records is a statment that somebody did not think thru very well. Without the rest of his 6A team mates he is no better off or maybe worse off as often the little schools play up. Any way that is my 2 pennies worth.

Collinsworth not even on the Final Ballot.....You can't be Serious. I hope HHS gets up about 40 in their Championship game and keeps letting AC pound it in to win by 70. Mr. Football is a joke this year. I actually feel bad for all the candidates on the ballot, because they will know who is actually the best all around player in the State, and the award is, unfortunately, cheapened by leaving AC off the ballot. You can win the Hornung award and not be on the Mr. Football ballot.....amazing stuff, really.

Agreed! I have many fond memories of AC playing ball for HHS. Many are his uncanny ability to return kick-offs against Covington Catholic! I will never forget his incredible interception in the '07 championship game against Bowling Green. AC was a sophomore. He helped change the momentum of the game with that interception... leaped high into the air against a D-1 WR, D.L. Moore, and pulled the ball down. A great three year letterman for the 'birds!

Great points. AC will probably be heading south in Jan for the All American Bowl in San Antonio. How many of the Mr Football candidates will be joining him? What, no other All Americans on that list. Wow, All American and cant get a sniff at Mr Football. Your right, it is obviously not that presitgious of an award anymore. Too Bad.

IMO I don't agree with the fact that if Miles Simpson played on a small school with small school teammates he would have been less productive...The reason being Miles Simpson is a once in a decade RB with a great combination of speed, size and vision that I believe many of the top RB's in the entire country from powerhouse states such as CA, OH, Fl and TX would have a hard time matching his ability at the position... I have seen a great deal of Miles and he loves to attribute his success to the O Line but honestly he does probably more on his own than any RB on the high school level in a long time, I have seen him literally fake defenders out of there cleats and turn a 2 Yard gain into an 80 Yard TD many times, intact usually a couple times a game...Point is put him on a team with 1A players and a 1A O Line and it probably doesn't have to much of an impact on him because he's using his 6'2 200 lb frame to bulldoze the defender and his 4.5 speed to take it too the house and the defenders at the 1A level are traditionally only smaller and slower:ylsuper:

The problem with your argument is that the Mr. Football award is not an award based on a sumation of all of your years playing High School Football. The Mr. Football Award is an award that is (Supposed) to be based ONLY on the Senior Season, not the Junior Year, Sophomore Year, or even the Freshman Year.

 

Facing this question, (regardless of injury, tough luck, or whatever happens) has the cadidate had the seasons or some of the others, such as MacShara, Hayden, or Simpson.
