^^ my source is all of hte articles and such that I have read on previous MR Footbal awardees in the past. None of them that I can recall have ever mentioned career stats being used in the decision of Mr. Football. Google some of the previous winners and you will see what I mean - career stats are mentioned in some of them, but the primary reason was the current (senior) year.

 

I am pretty sure that if a career was in the consideration of this, then Collingsworth would have been on the list as his career was a great one. The only justification there can be for him not being on the list this year is his stats were not up there with everyone else.

Don't see in that paragraph where stats were mentioned. However, he did mention academics and citizenship both qualities that Austin excells in.:idunno:

What do you base the current year on for football? The only thing you can base it on is the play which comes down to stats.

 

I am sure that all of these folks meet the citizenship (which is hard to show) and academics (GPA) portion, although I do know at least a couple in the past who would not have been considered to favorable if academics carried to much weight.

I never said just stats, I said stats help judge football for the year.

 

But what leading rusher in the state was left off of the list? I didn't see anyone off the list that was the leading rusher so I am thinking that I might have missed something.

Ricky Buckler 2851 yards in 13 games. Not saying he should be Mr. Football just making the point about stats. A lot on here are quoting stats. I'm thinking they are but one small part. He played for the school where he lives he played the competition you have to in district and all non district games are against bigger schools. Then some hold it against the kid. Some voters will tell you they weren't able to see each player nominated. From the way it is actually judged it is a popularity contest among the best players in the state championship games. If that is what it comes down to I'm OK with that. I just wish someone would post all the criteria for Mr. Football. Miles Simpson gets my vote. If I had one that is. He is the best running back I've seen since Shaun Alexandria and we all know how that turned out.
