Especially in a small town environment like TitleTown.

 

I guess he can be, but don't expect anyone outside of that hometown to respect your opinion or insight.

Honestly, the only thing I was pointing out in the article is that Vaught was a founding member of the Mr. Football award and that it is supposed to be based off of the current senior season.

 

I would expect western KY journalists to pick Andrews, NKY journalists to pick Simpson, Lexington journalists to pick Hayden and Larry Vaught to pick Rees.

 

If you didn't know, Larry Vaught is well respected nationally as one of the best small town journalists. He has plenty of awards from his peers to prove it as well.

I'm curious.....with much talk about small schools versus big schools when it comes to the Mr. Football award, what was the atmosphere on here like when Micah Johnson won the award?

As long as he unashamedly plays the homer card over and over, he will continue to be viewed as a small town hack rather than any kind of real journalist, at least by me.

This is my first post on this thread. After reading 169 posts on this topic of Mr. Football , I can see nobody agrees on anything. I'm sure that there are students ,athletes and fans that are reading these posts also.What are they thinking when reading this garbage. I understand that everyone thinks that Mr. Football plays on their team , but there is only one award given out each year. Everyone can argue until the cows come home,but it is not going to make a difference in the outcome. I think we as adults should be setting a better example for the kids that are reading this garbage ,don't you ?

Even if the person he is voting for is a legitimate top 5 player who should be a finalist? I could understand your point better if Rees wasn't one of the top 5 players in the state. Statistically speaking, Rees' 3073 yards rushing puts him at number 3 on the all-time list for rushing yards in a season. There will be people not living or writing in Danville that will vote for Rees for Mr. Football.

 

 

While you may view Larry Vaught as a small town hack, he will always be well respected by those of us who live in Danville and a well respected journalist amongst his peers.

In a perfect world there would be a clear cut winner every year. Most years, and this year especially, you have 4 very legit contenders which makes for intense arguments in a forum page on a forum website. I think the thought and stats and reasoning put into most posts makes it a good thing, IMO. The example set is that while we may disagree until the cows come home, it is still for the most part a civil argument which, IMO, is not a bad example to be setting. We may not agree, but it is still civil for the most part.

 

If it wasn't, the thread would be closed......quickly.

WOW......boy that sure is a statement to make......WOW....now let's see what I can say about it......I have know Larry Vaught for over 30 years and I can tell you for a fact....for a fact..that he is not just a small town hack. He is an award winning journalist who is thought well of by lots of people. Now I would be the last person to tell anyone how to think about someone but let's give the man his due. He has earned every award he has won and I think he has more than done well by all the surrounding teams in the Danville area. He has been fair with Mercer, Garrard, Lincoln, Casey, Boyle, Danville teams. If he seems to show special attention to the kids in these areas...then he is doing nothing less than other sports writers in other areas do. Of course he would favorite a kid from our area....just like someone from different areas would favorite their kids. If that is what makes a small town hacks..then there is probably lots of them around.

 

What I think needs to be done is to not be calling names and let the people on the Mr. Football Committee decided who will be the next Mr. Football. We could all sit here and give our opinion and name call all day long but in the end...what we think and say doesn't mean squat.

 

For my vote...o-kay...here comes a small town hacky answer...I vote for Rees and for Larry to win whatever awards there are out there to win. More power to them!!!!!
