You'd be hard pressed to find anyone in the Boyle County area or with ties to the Boyle County area who won't back Rees or Larry Vaught for that matter. Especially when the author of post #178 is a friend of Larry's.

I'm sure all the candidates are deserving of this award. I will congratulate the winner as well no matter who it is.

Probably hard to qualify when you miss 4 games though.....:idunno:

 

I am getting sick of the "he missed 4 games though" from the Highlands Haters. He played 5 more game than 80 percent of those nominees and did so for three straight yrs, that adds up to 15 extra football games in a season. Gee, thats like a being a 4th yr h.s. senior or something. Someone is cryin on another thread about Miles Simpson not being invited to the Army All American Bowl and suggesting that AC was invited strictly because of his name. WINS = NATIONAL EXPOSURE. :clap: 20n10

No HHS hater here and neither are quite a few others who have stated AC should not be Mr. Football. No one questions AC as a player and a person. But the fact is he missed too many games this year to be Mr. Football. There are other young men in the state who also have great talent, work their tails off and have great character who played in all their team's games. One of them earned the honor this year. Sorry it went that way for AC this year but the facts are the facts.

I'm not a Highlands hater, I just don't think this year's award for Mr. Football should go to the best payer on the best team when said player had a better season statistically as a junior because he did in fact miss a few games this year. That's all. Regardless of him being omitted as a finalist, I'm sure AC will be fine. No one is saying he isn't a great player.

The media missed this one. While I don't think he would win it, Austin C is one of the Top 18 players in the state whether he missed a few games or not. If the award is/was going to be strictly based on statistics, then you would see some RB's in the game late in the 4th quarter of 60-70 pt blowouts just to run up their numbers.

 

If Mr. Football is about the BEST player in the state, then he should have made the list.

I am well aware of who he is and my reasons for calling him a homer go beyond this one article. Being a "founding member of the Mr. Football Award" that Vaught would do more than just vote for the local favorite.

 

As long as he unashamedly plays the homer card over and over, he will continue to be viewed as a small town hack rather than any kind of real journalist, at least by me.

Only because I too have known Larry since I was a youngster and have great respect for what his father Bill began and Larry took to new heights for the AM. I've also known Larry to be a homer but also to step up to the plate and call it like he saw it (i.e. see Gillespie era).

From what I read it is the player with the best stats , best character, best career , best senior year , best inside connections , geographical area , size of school , injuries , number of games played , playing on a team that went to the finals etc , etc. How can anybody argue about this not even knowing what its all about ? :confused:

I wasn't talking about Collinsworth. I was just asking in general what merits are being considered for this award. Follow the post back? You quoted my post commenting on another post as to why he wasn't a leading candidate for Mr. Football. Don't get me wrong I think he may be one of the best if not the best football players in Kentucky. But I think it is an award about who had the best season, and partially who had the biggest impact on their team. He had an average season as far as stats and Highland wins with or with out him. Some of the other candidates teams I would say probably not.
