Hayden didn't just break them --- he OBLITERATED them.

 

Last I checked, Mr Football was about the year, not the carrer. I do not see him as being the best this year, even with his records that account for an entire career.

Were seeing and hearing all this talk about Andrews, McShara, and Hayden but what class are these boys in? Playing in 1A, 2A, and 3A is a totally different level than 6A where Miles Simpson plays. I'm not sure any of the 3 listed above would put up the numbers they did against 6A teams. If Miles played in the three classes I stated above he would absolutely demolish any record and there wouldn't be any chance for anyone to stop him. He is hands down the BEST football player in the state of KY. When you play the big dogs like Ryle, Conner,Boone Co, Manual, and the state power St. X and put up those kind of numbers, you are the real deal and I think that it should matter what class you play in. Miles Simpson gets my vote!:thumb:

People are naturally going to give the nod to the player playing better competition. They aren't necessarily always the best player. Look at past winners and see how many from 1A win compared to 5A and 6A.

Good point JJ... For me, Mr. Football should be the "best" football player regardless of school size, team record or player position. Not many lineman win the award....but if for example a little ole class A school happened to have the #1 ranked defensive end in the USA, with offers from Florida, USC, Texas, etc..that kid should be the leading candidate for Mr. Football unless there is another skilled player, like a Shaun Alexander, who is also ranked high nationally. Not saying College Scout rankings should be the deciding factor, but in my mind if you have to decide who the best football player is and you have to pick between a lineman from a class A school headed to play for the Gators and a QB from a class 6 school headed to say Morehead St. or Marshall I would vote for the lineman because he is the better football player--he excelled at his position to a greater degree than the QB did.

I honestly hadn't thought about it this way. But I think you're take on it is right, you stick Simpson on a 1A or 2A team and he could very likely shatter every record in the state and it not be touched for decades. However that's not what he played in, he played in the higher up class and faced better competition as a result.

It's not hard to see where your heart is (with small schools) and that won't change, the point most are trying to make is that the meat of Simpsons success came against big schools, which are going to have better defensive players, sure you can argue that Simpson also had a 6A o line that's fine just consider the fact that once he get's past the line of scrimmage alot of the rest was done by Miles.

 

I really wish some of you could watch tape of Miles I think alot of folks would change their tune he's probably the best RB in NKY this decade and one of the best in the state in a while.

If we're going to take that into account we should also consider Simpson losing one of his best blockers around mid to late season. But again this shouldn't matter

I would say Austin Collinsworth hands down if he hadn't missed 4 games.

But how can you be considered for Mr Football and you not even the player of the year in your class. I have no dog in the race! I believe that Antonio Andrews wins it!

 

 

We all know when it comes to individual awards the player that most deserves it isn't always the one who gets it. Some districts are a joke when it comes to voting for the POY awards. I will save that for another thread.

I am trying trying to undermine any of the accomplsihments of any of these young men, they are all great athletes and clearly above most in the state. I just find it ironic that everyone thinks that many of the names on this list from smaller schools (1-3A) only played schools their size, when in fact they typically played many games above their classes on a regular basis this year, so they played above their competition level if you use the classes as a basis for level of competition.

 

As far as the O-line goes, each of them had a good one, but after that, it was on the player. The same applies to all of these men, not just Simpson.

The only two I have actually seen this year is Dominique Hayden and Miles Simpson.

 

I say Miles Simpson wins.
