July 1, 201115 yr Started on The Wapshot Chronicle by John Cheever today. Finished this one today; very interesting. I guess you'd call it the story of the decline of a once powerful and influential family in the 20th century. I couldn't help but think how such a book would be written in the 21st century. Started on "The Ox-Bow Incident" this evening.

July 9, 201115 yr Finished reading "The Wild West", which is a companion volume to a TV miniseries. Today at a yard sale I bought a bunch of old James Bond books by Ian Fleming. Casino Royale (1953), Moonraker (1955), From Russia With Love (1957), Doctor No (1958), Goldfinger (1959), Thunderball (1961), The Spy Who Loved Me (1962), You Only Live Twice (1964) and The Man With the Golden Gun (1965). They're Book Club Editions, so it's not like they're rare firsts or anything. But they are hardcovers with dust jackets, and I thought they were a bargain at a nickel apiece.
July 9, 201115 yr I recently read Unfamiliar Fishes by Sarah Vowell. It deals with the U.S. missionaries to Hawaii in the 1800s who ultimately lead to the U.S. annexation in 1898. Really interesting, thought-provoking, and humorous, as are all of Vowell's books.

July 9, 201115 yr I got through books rarely slowly, but I've read more in the past year than I ever have, so I guess that is a plus. Just finished Never Eat Alone: And other secrets to success, one relationship at a time by Keith Ferrazzi. I was given this book about two years ago and just now read it. It was good, not great. But definitely some helpful tips/philosophies on the right way to think about networking. Next up looks like my second David Baldacci novel, First Family. I really enjoyed the first I read by him, Absolute Power, so I think I'll like this as well. First Family is a good read.
July 10, 201115 yr A collection of short stories by Richard Matheson, author of I Am Legend & What Dreams May Come. Included in the stories is Button, Button which was recently made into a film (The Box).
July 10, 201115 yr Currently reading "Coming Back Stronger" by Drew Brees. Awesome read and very motivational. Also stopped by the bookstore today and picked up Sean Payton's book Home Team. Can't wait to start reading that one.
July 10, 201115 yr Just picked up Ian O'Connor's "The Captain" which is about Derek Jeter. I'm just getting to the point where the Reds had the chance to select him but went with Chad Mottola.
July 15, 201115 yr Heat Wave by Richard Castle. I know, but I had to find out what was on page 197. Actually, the book is different from the TV series. I find it to be pretty good.
July 19, 201115 yr Leviathan, by Eric Jay Dolin. A history of whaling in America. It is really interesting. Whaling is completely frowned upon today, but it's amazing what a role it played in the early years of our country.
July 21, 201115 yr Just finished reading The Associate by John Grisham. Definitely enjoyed the book and the concept, but the ending of the book left me wanting so much more of an answer.
