July 21, 201115 yr I'm nothing if not an eclectic reader. Just finished "Stanley in Africa", published in 1889; he did a lot more than find Dr. Livingstone. I'm about halfway through "The Bean Trees", Barbara Kingsolver's first novel.
July 22, 201115 yr I finished "The Captain" about Jeter. Good read. Just starting "Lions of Lucerne" by Brad Thor which was a recommendation from our old friend HSSRB.
July 30, 201115 yr The wife has a nice little collection of southern fiction; I finished "Oral History" by Lee Smith this morning.
August 3, 201115 yr Haven't been doing as much summer reading as I've wanted because of work being busier than normal, which sucks. I did, however, start "The Book Of Basketball" by Bill Simmons the other day, and I'm plowing through the bugger fast. Funny stuff. I'm not sure, but I think the only books I've read faster on a pages-per-hour basis might be "Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas" and "How To Lose Friends And Alienate People."

At about 4 a.m., I ran across the section about Dennis Johnson and could barely contain my laughter. I'm no NBA diehard either, but Simmons makes the NBA a lot more interesting.

You might consider checking out "Free Darko Presents: The Undisputed Guide to Pro Basketball History" by the writers of the now-defunct FreeDarko blog and two of the most entertaining basketball writers today: Bethlehem Shoals and Eric Freeman.
