The line regarding "slow to anger" where he says "she paid by check" made me laugh. I hate when I get behind someone who still writes checks.

:lol::lol::lol:

I liked that too! Of course, I do occasionally pay by check in a store; but it's almost always for big ticket items (typically auto repair work). But I can certainly understand the frustration.

Is that part before or after his visit with the Amish? That was definitely a highlight.

I'm only a few pages in but I like the start. Funny and interesting.

I enjoyed the beginning part about the preparation for this little experiment. The guy certainly did his homework.

Getting ready to start Truman by David Mccullough.

I just started part 4, which means I'm about halfway through it. The detail is all Mccullough-ess.

Finished The Earthsea trilogy this weekend.

Just about finished with Malcolm Gladwell's "Outliers", a very interesting look at demographic, cultural and other factors that contribute to extreme levels of success. Great read.

I made a thread just for this book, but it was suggested I post it in here...

"I just finished reading Brother in Battle * Best of Friends which follows two WWII Paratroopers from the Original Band of Brothers, who tell their stories. The two soldiers that they follow are William "Wild Bill" Guarnere and Edward "Babe" Heffron, who are both portrayed in HBO's mini-series.

I am a big fan of American History, especially the European side of WWII. Band of Brothers is something that I have watched at least once a year, every year since it came out on DVD. I am not sure what it is about it, but I could watch it over and over and it never gets old. So when I picked this book up from NKU's library, I knew I was in for a treat, and I was definitely right.

I strongly encourage anyone who enjoys reading about WWII, but more specifically the Band of Brothers, to pick this one up sometime. It is interesting to get the insight and more detail on certain stories from the actual men who fought the battles.

I probably really loved it because Wild Bill was always my favorite. But at the same time, it really hit home reading through the memories that these men put on paper. I can't explain it, but it gave me a real appreciation for what they accomplished, even though I am probably someone who appreciates it more than most my age.

Anyone else read it?"

I have not read that one yet, I'll have to look it up. I'm currently reading Beyond Band of Brothers written by Dick Winters. A lot of insight and stories that were not included in Steven Ambrose's Band of Brothers. I'm about to finish this. I wanted to start reading a little more about the Pacific during WWII. I just bought a book written by Bill Sloan titled Brotherhood of Heroes - The Story of the Marines at Peleliu. After watching HBO's miniseries called the Pacific it sparked my interest to pick up a couple of books.

Just bought it!

I plan on reading and owning Beyond Band of Brothers by Dick Winters and several other books by Stephen Ambrose. Brothers in Battle*Best of Friends was definitely one I enjoyed, I need to purchase it too.. PM me and let me know what you think because I always forget to look back at this giant thread to see what others have said about the books that I read.

Last week I finished reading The Broker by John Grisham. I like his stuff, but I wasn't overly excited with this one. It was still interesting but I'd rank it on the bottom of the list of recent books I've read in the last year or so.

Starting on some more David Baldacci now, with The Camel Club. Interested to read about Oliver Stone and his adventures. I've heard good things.

Smokin' Seventeen by Janet Evanovich

Read all those James Bond books I bought for a nickel apiece before I sold them on eBay. Re-read "Bad Luck and Trouble", one of the Reacher books by Lee Child. Read "Plowshare Heaven", a collection of short stories by Jesse Stuart. Currently reading "Broken Window", one of the Lincoln Rhyme/Amelia Sachs books by Jeffery Deaver that I somehow missed a couple of years ago.

Bought a big box of newspapers at a local auction for $2 - Potsmouth (OH) Times - from the Nixon/Watergate era. Someone saved every paper with a relevant headline in 1973-74; must be 80 or 100 of them in the box. Also a couple from the Kennedy assassination and one featuring the Marshall football team crash in 1970. Fascinating reading; no wonder I'm sometimes a little bit cynical regarding politics. I was 18 in 1973-74 when that stuff was going on and it was quite the topic of discussion among family members.

The 10th Anniversary by James Patterson and Maxine Praetro.

I love the Rhyme series. Curious to see where he's going with it after this one.
